New in Tempe: Mandalay Noodle World
If so, you've been out of luck for awhile, since North Scottsdale's Little Rangoon Taste of Burma closed earlier this year.
Now, there's Mandalay Noodle World, a new spot in Tempe that calls its food "authentic Asian fusion," with a menu that combines run-of-the-mill Chinese stir-fries (beef with snow peas, moo goo gai pan), with several Thai items and quite a few Burmese dishes.
Those are what interest me, since I'm not aware of anywhere else in town that specializes in Burmese. There's Burmese tea leaf salad with pickled tea leaves, cabbage, tomatoes, sesame seeds, roasted peanuts, garlic chips, and kaffir lime seasoning; coconut noodle soup with lo mein noodles and hard boiled eggs; ginger salad; rose-scented farluda (a milky dessert with noodles); semolina cake with coconut cream and poppy seeds; and interesting ice cream flavors: avocado, durian, and (no big surprise) coconut.
The restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and from 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Sunday, at 3401 S. McClintock Dr. in Tempe (southeast corner at Southern). Call 480-775-6228 for more information.
