The Hours: Happy hour begins at 3 and goes until 6 pm, Monday through Friday. Make sure to snag a seat in the bar since this is the only place in the restaurant where these discounts are good.
The Details: $5 will score you a premium well or a glass of house red, white or bubbly. For only $2 more, you can sample one of seven different appetizers.

Modern Steak is, as the name would suggest, decidedly modern. From the die cut white metal exterior to the mirrored ceilings. Crisp white tables surrounded by booth seating and comfy armchair are available, as is the long dark wooden bar with blue suede stools. Once the weather cools off, patio seating at cushy booths around the large fireplace or at one of the bright four-top tables will definitely be a welcome option. It's modern and sleek without being aseptic, and manages to somehow feel like you're sitting in someone's chic living room rather than a restaurant bar.
The Cost: One mixed drink, a glass of wine and two apps came to 14 dollars before tax and tip.

The food specials are the real star on Modern Steak's happy hour menu. For a mere two dollars a variety of sliders, salads and side dishes can be had. The sliders are ample sized and the onion rings and fries appeared to be generous. The chop salad, while bright and colorful, was a bit on the bland side. It was heavily corn flavored, leaving very little room for the champagne vinaigrette to shine. The smoked salmon and crème fraiche on garlic toast was ample for the price, but springing for two might be a solid game plan in the future. At least with appetizer prices this low, you and your happy hour entourage can sample one of everything and still manage to keep the price range very manageable.
The drinks are where the happy hour stumbles a bit, with a five dollar price tag on all wells and house wine varieties, but with appetizer prices this low, it's easy to forgive.
