A food journey through Japan for less than $20 -- without leaving the Valley? Count us in.

Eatrip, a documentary about the connections between food and people in Japan, is coming to The Chef's Loft in Scottsdale Sept. 29 for two screenings with a reception in between.

Eatrip, the directorial debut of Yuri Nomura, explores the eating culture of Japan from the viewpoints of a Buddhist monk, a soup stock distributor, a self-sufficient homemaker, and a musician/poet.

During the reception, guests can snack on small bites from four different Japanese restaurants - including Sushi Roku - and taste Japanese beer and sake.

Traditional garb is encouraged, and we've been guaranteed at least some kimono sightings, as representatives from the Japanese Friendship Garden, the event's beneficiaries, will be sporting theirs.
