Starlight Cuisine Serves Up Caribbean Flavors

Jamaican food isn't easy to come by anywhere in the Valley, but if you're willing to head to the west side of town, there's a new-ish place called Starlight Cuisine in Avondale. Owner Trevor Brown says he opened his eatery back in December.

Menu selections rotate from day to day; two or three dishes are available Monday through Thursday (including brown stew chicken, simmered oxtail, and curried chicken), while Friday and Saturday bring the options like curried goat and escoveitch fish.

And if all you want is a jerk chicken fix, no worries -- they have that every day.

Prices are a bargain, with lunch running $5 and dinner from $10 to $12.

Along with the spicy entrees, there are other Caribbean treats like beef and chicken patties, coco bread, fried plantains, and rice and peas flavored with scallions, thyme, and hot pepper. To drink, there's ginger beer, Kola Champagne, and other Jamaican refreshments.
