The Hours: 3 p.m. till 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Closed on Sundays.

The Details: $3 16oz draft beers and all glasses of wine are $2 off. And not just in the bar, this deal is good throughout the restaurant. Sadly, there are no food specials.

The Interior: Tucked away inside a refurbished midcentury hair salon, the Parlor shows zero traces of what it once was, except for maybe the few barber shop chairs at the bar in the dining room. Upon walking in, there is a small bar area to the right. Four long tables are strategically placed along the windows that open onto the small, beautiful garden and the bar itself seats about 12 people. The dining room is a large open space with lots of wood, a skylight here and there to let in just the right amount of sunlight. Make sure you check out the wine rack made from the original sprinkler system of the building. If you can manage it, the best spot in the house on a nice Arizona evening is definitely on the cozy patio.

The Cost:
Two Lagunitas IPA's, two Hop Knots plus a meat and cheese board w/ four selections plus tax came to $27.08.

The Conclusion: Sneak out of work and get to The Parlor. The bar is small so get there early if you want to relax next to the window and enjoy the garden or the people watching. We got there at 5:30 on a Tuesday and were able to grab the last table; the bar filled up shortly after. Our server promptly arrived to take our drink order and bring us menus. We quickly perused their wine and beer selection, which is smartly listed from lightest to dark, ordered up a Hopknot and a Lagunitas IPA, and began to eye the menu.

Everything that we saw come out of the kitchen looked amazing and smelled wonderful. We decided to go with the meat and cheese plate. Take your pick from several different kids of meat and cheeses listed on the piece of paper they bring you when you sit down and then wait for awesome to arrive -- served with flatbread, pesto sauce, and a sweet, red pepper spread called Pepperonata, which is so good you'll want to put it on everything. We ordered two meats and two cheeses and it was just the right amount of food for two people, although we could have used one or two more pieces of flatbread. If you are in the more for something with a little more substance, order up one of the Parlor Pizzas, 8" or 12" with a light and crispy crust, flavorful sauce and a wide variety of toppings. For a mushroom lover, the Fungi is a must.

If you are seeking a nice little spot to meet friends for an afternoon drink or a safe place for a glass of wine with the folks, The Parlor is it. Comfortable atmosphere, easy on the eyes, quality service, cheap beers and great food will keep you coming back for more.
