Sunday Suppers Popping Up Around Town

Sunday brings a weekly dinner deal at Estate House, among others.
After busy Friday and Saturday nights, many Valley restaurants take a break on Sundays.

But it's not a day of rest for everyone. It's business as usual for some eateries, a few of whom are promoting special prix fixe menus as a way to get more people in the door.

Estate House just launched its new "Simple Sunday Suppers," a three-course Italian meal for $29. Selections change weekly but will include dishes like linguine with clams, pancetta, and chiles in white wine sauce, and Mediterranean sea bass in lightly spiced tomato sauce.

The name is almost identical to Noca's "Sunday Simple Suppers," also three courses, featuring anything from fried chicken to prime rib, depending on the week. (This one's $35 a head.) Noca's been doing these since opening a year ago August, no doubt inspired by James Beard award-winning chef Suzanne Goin's "Sunday Suppers" at Lucques in Los Angeles.

And Caffe Boa's new Mesa outpost, Boa Bistro, just started "Sunday Supper Club" this past weekend -- three courses for $30 featuring the week's fresh produce from farms such as Maya's, McClendon's, and Seacat Gardens.

Considering that all three of these places feature entrees that hover close to $30 (or more), it's a good way to sample the cuisine without killing your bank account.
