The 12 Foods for Xmas I Wish My True Love Gave to Me (Part Deux)
To get you in the holiday spirit, we created a holiday tune based around local foods we'd love to get for Christmas -- sung to the tune of "The Twelve Days of Christmas." Could be some good gift ideas for food lovers, or places to treat your sweetie to a pre-holiday dinner. Last week, we brought you the first four foods we're craving for the holidays.
Feel free to sing along as we offer you four more.
On the fifth day of Christmas, I wish my true love gave to me...*drumroll*
5 Golden Wings (4 Holiday Souffles, 3 Whoopie Pies, 2 Sasquatch Burgers and a Pot Pie from Cornish Pasty)
While not exactly a gourmet foodstuff, wings are just plain fun to eat -- the kind of messy finger food you want to consume while guzzling beer and watching sports (or Food Network, whatever). Ahhh...you see why they made our list now.
Half Moon Sports Grill in North Phoenix is one of our favorite spots for some finger lickin' fun. Their wings are fried until golden brown and served with one of seven sauces including Thai peanut (our favorite), traditional bbq and honey chipotle. Sweet!

6-Layer Tallcake (5 Golden Wings, 4 Holiday Souffles, 3 Whoopie Pies, 2 Sasquatch Burgers and a Pot Pie from Cornish Pasty)
The monstrosities of Cake Wrecks aside, we've rarely seen an ugly cake. But the tallcake at Maizie's Cafe & Bistro in Phoenix really is a thing of beauty. What appears to be a rather attractive parfait is actually whipped cream and fresh strawberries sandwiched between six layers of cinnamon coffee cake.
Just seeing a picture of this decadent dessert sets us to salivating. It's sweet, moist, and unlike its evil twin -- the ridiculous six-layer Chocolate Motherlode Cake at Claim Jumper -- totally doable as a dessert for one.
7 Lasagna Rolls(6 Layer Tallcake, 5 Golden Wings, 4 Holiday Souffles, 3 Whoopie Pies, 2 Sasquatch Burgers and a Pot Pie from Cornish Pasty)
What could possibly get a sushi-squeamish boyfriend to try a roll? Try concealing any hint of seafood or veggies with layers of bubbly cheese. When we heard Kabuki Japanese Restaurant was unveiling a cheesy Lasagna Roll to Arizona diners in early December, we saluted their brilliance. Everything's better with cheese.
Though a California Roll is probably the un-sushiest sushi you can get, the addition of parmesan, mozzarella and cream cheese gives it a salty-sweet, creamy punch we've never experienced with other rolls. The Lasagna Roll is so addictive, we'll take seven for ourselves -- and leave our true love one for having such good taste.

8 oz. of Sangria (7 Lasagna Rolls, 6 Layer Tallcake, 5 Golden Wings, 4 Holiday Souffles, 3 Whoopie Pies, 2 Sasquatch Burgers and a Pot Pie from Cornish Pasty)
Nothing says "holidays" like liquor, so when we're feeling festive we head to Ticoz in Phoenix for some red sangria. Made with Oak Creek cabernet, their housemade Passion Fruit Sangria is a sweet, slightly tart pick-me-up that pairs well with brunch.
It's so smooth and refreshing that one glass is never enough. If our sweetie only elected to give us 8 oz. of this lovely libation, we can conclude that it must be the "hair of the dog" -- us having consumed at least four glasses of the stuff the previous night. Um...can we get some more to go?
Check back next week for the last four foods of our song!!
