Stacey Gordon, What Are You Eating?
What'd you eat for dinner last night? California rolls from Cherry Blossom Noodle Cafe.
Favorite food: Almost anything Ethiopian.
Least favorite food: Mint (I know, who doesn't like mint, right? Yeah...it's me.)
Favorite dessert: Tiramisu or creme brulee (with 1,000 Lactaids).
Favorite local restaurant and meal to order there: Blue Nile Cafe. I love anything in the Vegan Messob. Sambusas are an excellent appetizer.
Favorite local bar and cocktail to order there: I don't bar it up often, but if I do, I go to the Bikini Lounge. I usually get a rum and coke.
Favorite thing to cook at home: Vegetarian fajitas with plenty of cilantro and lime.
Favorite memory involving food: I have so many food memories! Most of them revolve around my dad's parents. Every year, their synagogue would have a Jewish Food Festival. My grandmother would have chopped liver (which I miss to this day) and I'd sit with my grandfather to tell everyone how wonderful the cheese blintzes were. Granted, I'd never actually had one of the cheese blintzes, since I'm lactose intolerant. Nevertheless, I'd lie in a house of worship for the sake of hanging out with my grandpa, sneaking pickles, chopped liver and challah, getting to eat amazing pastrami sandwiches at lunchtime with "the old people" and playing the games in the courtyard they'd set up for kids. I've actually thought about taking a road trip just to visit for the food festival at their old synagogue.
Recipe or food tip to share: If you add caramelized onions to anything, it makes it better (OK, maybe not anything). Also, the next time you're eating French fries, grab some barbecue sauce and some mayonnaise and mix them together (with a fry) to dip your fries in. Mmmm, mayonnaise-y barbecue french fries. You may doubt, but it's delicious.
