Campus Coffee: eJoy Reopens and Loses the Creep Factor

Categories: Chow Bella

Our favorite place to get fed and caffeinated between classes is probably eJoy Internet Café off Mill Avenue and 7th Street.

Now that eJoy is finally out of its creepy gamer phase and under new management, it is better than ever. The back room, full of unused computers, has been completely transformed with comfy chairs and a stage, which will soon host an open mic night and a poetry slam.

If you're not an English major or particularly fond of unpolished poetry, we have two words for you: pita sandwich. With several cheese, veggie, meat, and spread options, eJoy's pita sandwich accommodates picky eaters on the go. They also have homemade pastries and flavored popcorn, including some odd flavors like blueberry mojito.

Pita Sandwich? YUM! We like ours with veggies, feta, and pesto.

eJoy also offers iced tea now, which we are a huge fan of because the unique brews are handmade to perfection (the green tea has peach, ginger, and orange, and the black tea has apricot, hibiscus, and rose hips). Another impressive beverage eJoy offers is their soy cappuccino -- and any experienced barista will tell you that making soy foam is an art that very few can do well.

As one of the closest cafés to ASU Tempe campus, eJoy still has a surprisingly old clientele, while maintaining a conversely young and hip staff. That's not to say there isn't plenty to lure students. eJoy has comfy booths where one can spend hours cramming, free wi-fi, computers available for ten cents per minute, a good music selection, and hours until 2 a.m.

So why aren't students swarming the shop? We don't exactly know, but it might have something to do with its old ties to the World of Warcraft elite. Hopefully eJoy's recent revitalization will attract more business.

We've been to Solo Cafe, Gold Bar Espresso, and eJoy Internet Cafe. Next week, we'll show you what Phoenix coffee has to offer students on-the-go.
