The Dow burger: When the market tanks, you win!
The good people behind TexAZ must be feeling a bit of schadenfreude during the economic downturn, and now they've got a deal that lets you, the hungry but budget-minded diner, join in the fun.

The popular Texas-themed steak-ribs-and-burger joint on the northeast corner of Bethany Home Road and 16th Street has introduced a special called the "Dow burger."

As the stock market fluctuates, so does the price of this artery-clogging taste treat. It's a great idea: When you hear about greedy three-piece-suit types jumping from their office windows on Wall Street, you know it's time to round up the family and head over to TexAZ for a lunchtime burger.

Here's how it works: Whatever the Dow Jones Industrial Average was at the closing bell on the day before your visit to the restaurant, TexAZ will multiply that number by .001 to determine the price of your burger. On the day I went with some co-workers, my Dow burger was $7.96 (I'll let you do the math). It should be noted that this offer is good during lunch only.

The burger itself is a doozy: a hand-formed hamburger cooked to your liking, topped with a slice of American cheese, a few strips of swine meat, er, bacon, a handful of onion rings, and TexAZ's "good as gold" BBQ sauce.

When you think about it, the "Dow burger" is an exercise in excess. Bacon, cheese, and onion rings? Kinda over the top. But maybe that's the beauty of it. You get to indulge even as you should be watching the bottom line.

So, keep your eyes on the Wall Street Journal to help you plan your next trip to TexAZ. When you read that US Airways is going to lay off your neighbor or GM's going to reduce your dad's pension, put down those pots and pans and let TexAZ do the cooking.
