First Taste: True Food at Biltmore Fashion Park

I'm not too sure about you, but it's a rare event that a waiter in a restaurant runs out to ask me if "two percent organic milk" is okay for my latte. Sure, on a Starbucks run "half-calf, full foam, double shot, two percent, organic" or some similar coffee equation might fall out of my mouth, but that's telling. This was asking.

"That'd be great," I said and turned back to my table at True Food's pre-opening sneak peek on October 24 at Biltmore Fashion Park.

Created by Sam Fox of Fox Restaurant Concepts and noted integrative medicine specialist Dr. Andrew Weil, True Food takes the idea of health food and kicks it up a few notches by making it as appetizing as it is good for you.

I started my mastication therapy session with an appetizer of herb hummus with pita bread and a greek salad. I sucked it down with a "medicine man" containing olivello juice, pomegranate juice, cranberry juice, black tea, soda and muddled blueberries. The main course was "today's raw fish" and came sitting in a yuzu sauce with tiny orange segments.

When I noticed that True Food has a dessert menu I imagined bowls of rolled outs with a few dried fruits. The gluten-free chocolate cake served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on a chocolate square and topped with pears set me straight. Granola this was not.

As reported earlier on Chow Bella, True Food officially opens today. If you've got a taste for healthy food and can appreciate a waiter asking if two percent, organic milk is "okay" you might check it out.

Thanks for SO many amazing dishes! My favorite has to be a proper cheese and charcuterie plate at Wedge and Bottle in Ahwatukee! Delicious !!
