Sushi boom: Kizake and blu Sushi reel in first customers
By Michele Laudig
Someday soon, I won't be surprised to see a sushi restaurant on every corner. Yes, folks, there are two more new restaurants where you can get your fresh fish fix.
Last weekend, Kizake Sushi & Martinis finally opened for business at San Marcos Plaza (91 W. Boston St.) in Chandler, after months of "coming soon" promises. You might remember Kizake from West of Western, where chef Hiro Taniguchi served a silky salmon dish.
Since it was a soft opening, the hours are dinner-only, and the menu's still limited, with a compact selection of sushi, sashimi, and appetizers, including miso coup, seaweed salad, whitefish carpaccio with ponzu, and spicy tuna tacos. Lunch service, as well as additional menu items, will be coming soon. Call 480-894-1365 for info.
In Litchfield Park, blu Sushi just opened yesterday (no, they don't capitalize the "b" in blu), featuring chef Shinji Yoon's sushi creations from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. The bar area, which includes a VIP lounge and music, is open until midnight. blu Sushi is located at 118 N. Old Litchfield Rd.; call 623-535-4935 for details.
