Seftel spotting

I'm an extremely intuitive person, but sometimes I still second-guess myself.

On a recent visit to Roka Akor -- the high-style robatayaki joint in Scottsdale -- I saw somebody from behind who immediately reminded me of Republic critic Howard Seftel.

Keep in mind, I've never met Howard Seftel, although I met his daughter at a party one time. Hang out in Phoenix long enough, and you'll eventually meet everyone, I think.

Anyway, I've known what Howard Seftel looks like for a long time, since way before I ever thought I'd be sitting here blogging about it. He reminds me of a particular celebrity whose name I can't mention because then you might recognize him in the same peculiar way I did. What, you thought I was going to tell you what he looks like? Well, I could tell you . . . but then I'd have to kill you. (mwahahaa)

So when I caught a glimpse of the stranger's face, I still thought to myself, Is that who I think it is? Considering where I was sitting, I found myself trying hard not to stare in his direction, as if I was somehow unintentionally stalking this dude. When he got up to leave, he walked right by me, and I got a better look at him. Jeez, I really think that's him...

I smiled to myself and figured I'd wait to see if Roka Akor would get a review from him around the same time my piece on Roka Akor would show up in New Times. (My column will show up online sometime Wednesday evening, as usual.)

Sho 'nuff, that was him.

Sometimes I think I should add "Bond girl" to my resume.
