Some places have some nice freebies, while others have decent discounts on nice apps.</p> <p>I like dives, but also use happy hours as a way to check out a newer "fancy" places without committing to a big meal or pricey entree. For example, I recently met up with a friend at newer seafood place in Scottsdale after work. Neither of us had ever been, but agreeing to meet for a cocktail allowed us to check out the scene without the formality of a dinner experience. Sitting at the bar, we ended up ordering 5 half-priced apps which probably gave us a better sampling of the restaurant than if we met just for dinner.</p> <p>Just a thought.</p> <p>Regardless, keep up the great job in print and online.</p>
