Nick, you can volunteer ANYWHERE you want to! I have volunteered by simply printing out the petition sheets (on legal paper) from this website: www.recallarpaio.com On that website, you can sign up into their system to volunteer, or make a donation. I just carry the forms with me everywhere i go and it is really that easy! there is also a facebook page called "People Against Sheriff Joe Arpaio" that is a great source of information on the efforts. You can join conversations and stay up to date...Respect Arizona also has a fb page with info...they typically post a schedule for the weekend of locations and times where you can sign, though i havent seen a schedule for this week yet, likely because they are hosting an event down town saturday and need help and volunteers. I think those numbers are low...there are hundreds of collected petition sheets in the hands of volunteers that have yet to be turned in, like mine! We well have a new sheriff in November and that makes me sooo excited! Although a recall election is not free, it would cost us a very small fraction of what it would cost us to go through another 4 years of injustices. Did you know, we pay a $5million dollar insurance deductible for case settlements, which is an increase from the previous $1 mil deductible we used to pay because of the increase in cases? There are still 2400 cases that are on the books to still go to court. Although you may not see the logic in this recall effort, I assure you, it is 100% legal, and within our rights as spelled out in the AZ constitution. If you don't like that, change the laws...until then, we have the right to exercise our rights within the laws as they are written today. I'll be at bookmans tonight on 19th ave and northern from 7pm-9:30ish if you would like to sign! :)

One has got to be thinking about the next power grab if Joe retires or gets booted by recall - there have to be multiple snakes scurrying (do snakes scurry) for a power position in case Joe leaves,. The old man took his first fall last week. This next fall is going to be a huge crash heard around the world and is going to be politically fatal to him (not a threat). He will be ushered out to pasture in the snow laden fields of Massachusetts, I hope. I'm hearing some of the neighbors on Via Del Sol are complaining about him, again.

@stefrod60 @Tommy_Collins But he is NOT doing his job - he may be doing the part of his job you want him to do, but he is not protecting our children from sexual predators nor the jail inmates from undue punishment, two of his ACTUAL jobs. The most important part of his job is serving warrants, he is DEFINITELY NOT DOING THAT JOB!!! He's not even doing a good job at what he prefers to do, round up undocumented workers - he's spent a MASSIVE amount of money with very few people actually deported. Other law enforcement agencies around the State do a much better job at picking up undocumented people than Sheriff Joe does. You are completely NUTS if you think he's doing his job - he's simply NOT and we're going to get rid of his ass in the way our State Constitution and laws of Maricopa County say we can - RECALL.

I think RA needs to expand beyond the borders of Phoenix. They need to trek out to Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Scottsdale, Tempe, Glendale, Surprise etc. There are plenty of voters out there, who are not within the Phoenix area, who wish to get their signatures on that recall petition. That will add a whole of extra sigs to the cause.

For all those that are just waiting to get on this discussion thread and start an argument, the real work is downloading a petition from Respect Arizona's website (https://www.recallarpaio.com/), obtaining valid, legitimate signatures and turning them into Respect Arizona. Pontificating on this discussion thread does not accomplish anything of value except, maybe, make you feel good. Circulating petitions, obtaining signatures and turning them in is the only action that will create the change that you'd like to see.

I didn't vote for him. I don't like him. He's a jackass. But he's a jackass that keeps winning, so clearly some people do like him. What I don't like is the idea of another long, drawn-out campaign process that will end with the same result. If he couldn't win while the anti-anti-immigration fervor was at it's loudest, why would he lose now? There are too many people upset about the ICE releases and amnesty laws for him to lose, especially if there is an extra election specifically because the man they elected is under what they would perceive as an attack. Meanwhile, he's not doing the job people elected him to do because he's wasting time (and therefore taxpayer money) on a recall election. Democracy is not being a stick in the mud because of a difference in ideals, it's about evolving the ideals of government into those of the people. It may not always work, and it certainly may not end up representing our personal views, but that's just how it goes sometimes. That's okay. It's why positions like his are decided by elections and not appointed, and why we have election cycles. The sickest thing about all of this to me is the New Times trotting out more #Journalism from people like the author of this article, a man with a very clear, easily-evidenced bias. A man literally rooting for a recall election. And a foray into political discourse by someone who refers to his readers, albeit sarcastically, as bitches.

A lot of other police departments all across this country, thousands of them, uphold the law without violating it themselves and MCSO should be able to do the same.

What about the several people who have died in Arpaio's jails who have not been convicted of a crime? Don't they deserve the same justice as you would demand?

Guilty people are punished yet people who have not been found guilty are dying in Arpaios jails, but you call this justice - so I can just accuse you of a crime, I have not presented any evidence, you have not had your day in court, yet I can beat you up or kill you because you committed a crime right? Who cares that I have not proven that yet, right? That's exactly what you are saying.

You are wrong on all counts.

The City has no authority over MCSO. The city handles the CITY OF PHOENIX which is inside Maricopa county. The city has zero say in MCSO operations.

This is why a city police officer can only make arrests in the City of Phoenix and not on county land outside the city, but an MCSO officer can arrest anywhere in the county, even if that is inside the City of Phoenix.

As a matter of fact and law, if the city police do not do their job, it's the county police (MCSO) who can come in and override them, to the point of taking over management of the department, because the city is UNDER the county.

The Governor does not legally have control over MCSO, they have control over what the County Board can do, which in turn is in control over the county offices and agencies like MCSO.

But under Arizona law, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors does not even have direct control over MCSO, a fact acknowledged by the board in recent hearings.

You really need to learn some facts about REALITY before you continue posting.

Yes, it was the sheriffs fault. He made the policies, he enforced the policies, he is responsible.

You blame the worker that is collecting a paycheck, which true he shares responsibility if he was involved, but the sheriff is resonsible for that employees actions.

Being in charge is not about ability, it's about responsibility - if Joe is not going to be responsible, as his position stipulates, then he should not be in the position and should get out of the way for someone who will be responsible, before and after.

No, the difference is not that we (younger folk) don't respect authority, it's that we don't allow others authority over us simply because of age or other non-tangible things - we allow authority over us to the people who have earned that right and to whom we have given that ability, not those who just assumed it, like you attempt to do.

Age does not beget authority, just as it does not beget wisdom (you are ample proof of that)
