Bill Montgomery Skewered in Puente March, SANE Defends Monty

montyapartheid.JPG
Andy Thomas and Russell Pearce created it, but it's Monty's apartheid plan now...

Weirdly, it's not just the yahoos who are defending Monty. The Real Arizona Coalition, which is behind the so-called SANE immigration proposal, is also defending Montgomery, who, in turn, is for the SANE approach to the immigration issue.

Last week, I asked RAC for a statement on whether or not its members had challenged Monty on his unusually cruel policies toward the undocumented.

Today, they got back to me with a response, which reads in part:

"Mr. Montgomery's conservative views offer insight and ideas from a critically important constituency, no matter if some members of the RAC disagree with those viewpoints. To his credit, Mr. Montgomery was the only Arizona Republican law enforcement official willing to sit down and help the RAC craft its immigration reform proposal. In addition, he has spoken at and participated in three of our immigration solutions conferences.

"While SANE is a product of the collective efforts of the many dozens of people who have been involved in its creation, it is worth noting that Mr. Montgomery wrote the section that excludes individual ID theft convictions from the list of felonies that would warrant deportation. His openness to alternatives and willingness to be in the room have demonstrated that he understands the importance of adding a level of fairness and practicality to federal reforms."

Apparently, the irony of Monty supposedly writing a future exception for those he is now needlessly over-charging, denying them the kind of plea offers similarly-situated defendants receive from the MCAO, escapes the SANE backers.

lynne.jpg
Another Monty supporter: Pistol-packin' nativist Lynne Stevens....

But it did not escape Carlos Garcia, Puente's chief organizer.

"It just shows that they continue to stand by him," Garcia said. "There's no difference between standing by Montgomery and standing by Arpaio. If the Real Arizona Coalition continues to work with Montgomery, they've lost credibility in matters of immigration reform.

"What Montgomery is doing is directly contradicting anything reform will do. How are you going to try to pass some sort of immigration reform...when you're dealing with the only jurisdiction in the country that's doing these kinds of raids?"

@Bgray59: Before the January 2008 start of the I.C.E. Deportations, the "Foreclosure Crisis, the Great Recession, ect. Legal Residents could pick and choose any job they wanted, in fact the Twenty-five year period prior to the I.C.E. Programs was "The Most Prosperous Time in Total U.S. History.

Now our Children can take their College Degrees to the Farms, and pick food, hoe weeds, drive tractors, ect.

You are blaming the Hard Working People who's Hard Labor was the very FOUNDATION of our Storng Economy for the Economic Damage done to our Nation by Deportation/Incacerations of good hard working People.

These are Family Units made up of both legal, and un-documented "Human's"

This is America's Darkest Hour, it has made many Supremacists, and Racists' including Nazi's very happy.

January 2008 began the E-verify Law, the Hitler like I.C.E. Deportation/Incarceration Programs, and of course the "Foreclosure Crisis", The Great Recession", and our "Ballooning National Deficit".

"America is great because it is good, when it ceases to be good, it ceases to be great."

Alex De Tocqueville

Since the stsrt of the I.C.E. Deportation/Incarcerations in January 2008:

Over One Hundred Hispanic Immigrants have Died in I.C.E. Custody.

Over Thirteen Thousand un-documented Immigrants have been Incarcerated for years with out even charges.

Over Five Thousand Legal Hispanic Children of un-documented Immigrants are now in U.S. Foster Care.with Parents ripped away from them.

Over Forty-Two Thousand Hispanic "Human Beings" now lay Dead at the Harsh U.S. Mexico Border where I.C.E. has Deported/Dumped Hundreds of Thousands into a known "Drug War" with nothing, not even water to be killed, or to Die of the Elements. (The I.C.E. Mass Graves.)

Hitler burned Humans in Ovens, I.C.E. has burned Humans in the Desert.

Where is the "Humane" Immigration Reform?!!!!

This is our I.C.E.'d Economy, I.C.E. "Put the Car in the Ditch!"

@DNichols Since 1986, somewhere between 11 and 20 million illegals have come here.  The last amnesty program turned out to be the beginning of the next amnesty program.  If you love them so much, take them back to their homeland and show them how to be prosperous.  Help them defy their government, not your own...or my own

@DNichols ICE did not kill the people in the desert.  They killed themselves by attempting to cross without proper resources and planning.

If the 13,000 have been held without charges why have immigration attorneys not filed a writ of habieus Corpus. Is it because there was no profit for the attorneys.

What about the millions of legal residents who cannot get a livable wage because illegals have depressed wages so low.  Look at Construction laborer rates in Phoenix vs St Louis.  Phoenix  Labors start and top out at 10.00 per hour.  St Louis  Labors start at $10.00 and top at $22.00.  Construction cost per square foot are the same.

Even CRNT TV reports that the immigration and violence problem is the fault of the Mexican Government. You cannot complain that CRNT  is in the hands of the teabaggers.

Go back and do some empirical research before you start your great philosophical rants infused with half truths and manipulated data.

@FRONTERA George Wallace? What the fuck do you know about history? You people throw around the "racist" label at anyone who upholds the law that we, as citizens of Arizona, have legislated and thus have the duty to enforce. If what we do is "racist," then I'm not even sure what you would call Mexico's border policy with Guatemala.

@FRONTERA Bullshit!  You sound like you have more illegal family members than citizens.  Take your show on the road.  It is pretty thin and tasteless.

We DO NOT need, or want, more illegals.  Is it that hard to comprehend? Comprende?

@truthseekeraz @DNichols Rant about the Koch Brothers all you want, but they are not the driving force of immigration. The corrupt government of Mexico pushes these illiterates to our borders, hoping that they can get a job and send needed money home to Mexico.

All for me, and no one else?  That sounds like the mantra of the illegal immigration supporters/dupes.  Why can't we just enjoy those that come here legally?  Why must we make special considerations for those that prefer to break into our country?

The Koch Brothers are your red herring in this debate.  Why not admit that you do not care whether illegals are a burden or a boon, you just want to hug them all...at our expense.

@bgray59 ,

If you want to really address the reason wages are being depressed all across America, look no further than your local Walmart and look to the union busting efforts and right to work legislation republicons are so fond of.

@bgray59;

How many of the Over Forty-two Thousand now laying Dead right where I.C.E. Derported/Dumped Hundreds of Thousands in to a "Known Drug War" with nothing, not even water are in Fact Deported Humans Dumped to Die?!!!

I would say All of them.

These Human Beings worked hard in Mexico, and saved for years for their Journey to "The Greatest Country on Earth."

When they were Dumped to their Deaths they had not a Peso, no Water, and faced hundreds of miles of Harsh Desert to walk accross to try to get home!

They were Dumped to Die Period.

This is Fact: The United Nations should go to Mexico and do a little "Research" of the "Truth".

I doubt God will see much difference in this Mass Dumping in the Desert, or Hitlers Ovens.

Lets quit Pretending.

Ever hear of this little thing called unions? Arizona is a right to work state. Missouri is not. In states where unions have more power, wages are higher. This has zip to do with immigration.

"ICE did not kill the people in the desert.  They killed themselves by attempting to cross without proper resources and planning. "

Wrong. If you knew anything about US border policy, you'd know that the US government cut off migrant crossings in El Paso and San diego, creating a "funnell effect" where migration goes through the Sonoran Desert. The govt. did this knowing people would die.

http://www.aclu.org/files/pdfs/immigrants/humanitariancrisisreport.pdf

"Deaths have paralleled strengthened border enforcement efforts in the last fifteen years. Growing academic research has substantiated that these policies and strategies have made border crossing difficult, dangerous and even life-threatening. In a 2005 paper evaluating the border and immigration strategy implemented since 1993, researcher Wayne Cornelius summarized that one of the consequences had been the spike in migrant deaths. In 2006 the University of Arizona Binational Migration Institute issued a scientifically rigorous report examining the “funnel effect” produced by the border enforcement strategy that had made southern Arizona the site of the greatest number of unauthorized border crossers’ deaths on the southwestern border.70 In 2009, another researcher, Douglas Massey, testified before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee that accelerated militarization of the border had also increased “the risk of death”.71 Many more studies by the U.S. General Accounting Office, Rutgers University and the University of Arizona have confirmed that migrant deaths have paralleled strengthened border enforcement efforts irrespective of the addition of an official, government search and rescue operation to prevent migrant deaths.72 The former INS Commissioner under the Clinton Administration and signer of the “Border National Strategic Plan for 1994 and Beyond,” Doris Meissner, put it simply: “Still [in 2009] such deaths continue to loom as a tragic byproduct of border enforcement.”

@shadeaux14 You are right, but you are speaking from a "Right to Work" State.  Unions have no base here.  I do not think that they are relevant any more, but may be of use in some industries.

The Farmworkers, and SEIU are unions made up of mostly illegal workers.  Why would we want them demanding benefits?

bgray59
bgray59

@shadeaux14 Look at the places were jobs have been created.  States with right to work laws.

Look at the states and cities who are going bankrupt.  Strong irrational government unions and elected officials who depend on those unions to stay in power.  Detroit has been taken over by the State. Atlanta will go into bankruptcy within the next 2 to 3 years.

The only thing which allows some people to survive is Wal-Mart.

If you do not like Wal Mart do not shop there.  If enough people follow your lead then they will change their policies and raise their prices.  My guess is that you do most of your shopping at Wal-Mart.  You rail against them but you continue to support them because it suits your economic interest.

You really aught to read the economic studies done on the Meat Packing industry.  Also include Chuck Hagels involvement.  It is a primer on the entire problem of unions and the loss of manufacturing jobs in the US.

Before you blame the Republicans research Bill Clinton's involvement with Tyson foods and the Chinese.  Bill gave the Chinese favorable treatment.  This accelerated the loss of manufacturing jobs.

When you have completed your home work assignments come back and join the discussion.

bgray59
bgray59

@DNichols Their elected government (Mexican) created the problem through their economic policies, corruption and deals with the Cartels.  In order to maintain their position they are actively encouraging their Citizens to violate US Law and go north.  (CRNT documentary on the border problems).

NSA threat report identifies Mexico as the greatest threat to collapse.  In order to stay in power the ruling oligarchy is exporting the citizens to the US by any means possible.  Their hope is that the surplus population will not rebel against and cause a repeat of the slaughter which occurred in the early 1900s.

@truthseekeraz @MotherJones @bgray59 @DNichols and Reagan's drug war is probably at fault too right? When does history ever cease to explain the current shortcomings of people? Is there no such thing as personal responsibility? Are we able to constantly shift blame on previous generations for every issue we face today? Mexico was a shithole before NAFTA. It's up to their government and people to make appropriate changes to their economy and system of governance . Not every global problem is the result of 'murica

@MotherJones @bgray59 @DNichols Ummmm, they cut off the easy routes as a way to tell the illegals not to bother.  Why should we pave a street for them to cross into our country?

I hate to sound rude, but why are you people not spending your energy, and money, lobbying the Mexican government to improve the lives of their countrymen?  Why not demand an end to Mexican corruption?  Why demand all American people to support these people just because you like them?

There are procedures in place to immigrate to the United States.  Why is it that we have to accept millions of Mexicans, instead of Turks, or Somalis?

Why have laws at all if you do not intend to enforce them?  The Mexicans should wait just like everyone else.  They are no more privileged than any other country's poor.  They need to demand the same things of their government that they do of ours.

bgray59
bgray59

@MotherJones @bgray59 @DNichols The illegals make the choice. They know the risk.  It is their responsibility not mine nor the US governments.

Do you not believe in personal responsibility?
