Congratulations Sheriff Arpaio, once again you have won because that's what a majority of legal voters wanted. Despite the smear and scare tactics of the illegal alien lovers, you came thru. Now, continue to enforce the legal immigration laws and do your job, and if someone doesn't like it, then they can packup their sorry ass and leave. Starting with Stephan Lemons(hit). He's told more lies about you than anyone, and claims with each one he tells, that he's protected by "freedom of speach" laws that say he doesn't have to tell the truth. Illegal aliens are nothing more than the lowest form of coward. So many folks did not know who Penzone was. He started late and many in the community did not think he would win and/or afraid of Arpaio. So they did not raise $ or organize for him until late in the game.

@dennis20 Arpaio won because he got 81,000 more votes than Penzone. The election was as clean as they get, and Dems and progressives really have nothing to complain about – certainly not at the County level. The business with the students and Flake’s robo calls excepted, but they were not Arpaio’s margin of victory.

Almost everybody who supported Stuaffer wanted Arpaio to win; either because they like Arpaio or because they hoped Arpaio would croak in office and, for some delusional reason, they figured on getting somebody better than Penzone. Rowan and Stauffer were distractions that hurt Penzone, maybe, just maybe, enough to cause him to lose. The Republicans aren’t the only ones with crazies in their midst.

But the real problem was the voters: the racists (“We need someone to stand up for us White people”), xenophobes (“He’s the only one doing anything about the illegals.”), willfully ignorant (“I don’t it believe it.”), and the secret sadist voyeurs who get off on inmate malnutrition, humiliation, exposure, denial of medical care, beatings and killings.

They look themselves in the mirror savoring another four years of incompetence, corruption and sadism. They are disgusting. It disgusts me to walk on the street and know that half the people I see get off on this sadistic clown’s activities.

In the meantime, give up on some stupid investigation. There's nothing there but these repulsive, vile, sickening and ghastly people who actually voted for the Mussolini of Maricopa a sixth time.

Az's elections were "broken on purpose" since prop 200. That is not a wacko conspiracy. And ya-the high number of provisionals and problems is a direct result of that. The fight by republicans to stop students from voting was real-not some conspiracy dreamed up by unions, dems, the ACLU and progressives bitter over the loss of Penzone or Carmona.

An MSNBC commentator's headline as your evidence doesn't hold up as evidence of Arizona's unions, progressives and dems wasting time on conspiracy theories when they should be out registering people to vote instead (14 days after an election). And buying your views on these so called conspiracy theorists without question isn't any better than believing every word an MSNBC commentators views are without question.

Also, you weren't at the poles from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM talking to voters. I was. Of course-all I have is "antidotal" evidence, therefore we shouldn't dare question what Ken Bennet and Helen Purcell say-right?

If you really believe that it was a complete accident that information was sent out with the wrong voting date in spanish (twice) then say so. If you trust SOS Ken "Birther" Bennett, the man in charge of handing Arizona to Romney and in charge of running our elections-say it. If you feel there is no conflict of interest or reason to be suspicious - thats your choice. But if you are going to call anyone a conspiracy nut-put me on top of the list.

@stephen.lemons I'm not questioning what you did on election day. I only used my example of what I did to show I'm not sitting around spinning conspiracy theories. Again-asking questions and wanting independent investigations isn't the same as denying the moon landing.

Regardless of how much you disagree with the protests or protesters, I don't believe Bennet ( as of Nov. 19) would be stating how he wants to fix the many problems and intends to work towards solutions without the hell raisers. He is even looking to how Phoenix city elections are run more efficiently as a possible solution.

Regardless of how you feel about MSNBC or the NY Times or Harry Reid, the protests helped bring national attention to a number of problems and as a result things will probably get slightly better. The fact that sacred cows like Pucell are now being watched also isn't a bad thing.

As for the video I made, to expect an 18 year old girl who never voted before to be an election law expert-thats voter suppression in itself. Prop 200 made it harder for lots of people to vote since it was enacted. This year people protested and the Nation took notice. We have a system in Az designed to prevent a crime that virtually doesn't exist: VOTER FRUAD. The result is people are disenfranchised and those people tend to vote democrat. Just because it doesn't effect the majority of dems, latinos, youth, elderly or minorities doesn't mean it doesn't suppress or disenfranchise voters.

As for your reference to the bookmarks and mailers?

Of course telling people to vote 2 days after an election wont result in provisional ballots. it results in NO BALLOT and that is voter suppression.

As I've stated several times, it's not simply one thing. It is a combination of several starting, but not ending with prop 200.

Sure-the lady who tried 3 times to get her PEVL could've voted a provisional. She didn't know all the laws and perhaps ran out of time or interest which is why voter suppression works. One first time 19 year old latino voter I interviewed before NBC 12 put him on the air who spent 4 hours (three times in the same line) admitted he was ready to quit after the first hour. His mother, who registered him wouldn't let him give up. There is absolutely no reason voting needs to be this confusing other than to suppress the vote. There is also no reason why activists should have to spend all their time educating and helping voters wade through the mess republicans created.

What purpose, other than to suppress votes does it serve when voter fraud is such a serious crime with such low rewards that only an idiot would try it? You have a much greater chance of death from a TV falling on your head or a lightning strike then you do of finding any voter fraud. Those are facts. The republicans in Arizona that have gone to such great lengths to protect the white majority from "illegals voting" are the real conspiracy nuts. It's not protesters who brought attention to the mess they created.

Comparing California to Arizona is still like Arpaio claiming our soldiers in Iraq suffer in hotter temperatures than tent city so we should all just STFU. I simply can't find any reason we should should be silent because of what happens in California.

Just as it's hard to prove racial profiling, so is the case with voter suppression. You don't believe the provisionals are a result of prop 200? Would they even be needed without it?

And just like Arpaio's famous sweeps, some white folk got pulled over, ticketed and arrested. And some broke the law, had warrants and were real bad people. That didn't fix the damage to businesses, families and our reputation that the sweeps created and it surely didn't prove racial profiling didn't exist.

So when we systematically make it difficult to vote we suppress the vote. It's not rocket science.

I've made this point by citing Arizona 2008 and California. Pima County had a lot of provisionals and earlies, though not nearly as much as we did, of course. The recorder there is a Dem.

But you don't want to accept that the large number of ballots left to count did not necessarily indicate voter suppression. You dismiss the evidence offered out of hand.

Then there are people complaining about having to vote provisionally. I've talked about redistricting, the poll consolidation. Once again. these arguments are dismissed. Why? Because they do not fit a preconceived notion.

I've mentioned that there are some white guys at my office who had to vote provisionally. I'll tell you their names off the record. You can call them yourself, if you want.

A provisional ballot is a ballot. It gets counted, except in certain circumstances. I've talked about this at length, and I agree with the ACLU's take on the provisional-precinct law. It's wrong and should be challenged or repealed.

Russell Pearce's Prop 200 is another that should be junked. That law genuinely disenfranchises eligible voters. On that, we have no disagreement. But the vast majority of the complaints about this election have nothing to do with Prop 200.

When the first girl in your video acts as if a provisional ballot is not a real ballot, that it doesn't count somehow, I wish someone had explained to her that if she was in the right precinct, her vote will count. In fact, she can go to the SOS website, plug her info in the site, and find out what happened with it.

The Spanish language bookmarks, etc.? Sure, it's a fuck up. It shouldn't have happened. But if that's part of the plot, then please explain how that sort of mistake resulted in people voting provisionally.

You say that "Latinos registered in record numbers." Maybe. But let's take Adios Arpaio as an example.

AA registered near to 35,000 new voters in Maricopa County. A stunning achievement.

Still, about 1.34 million voters cast ballots in the sheriff's race.

Know what percentage 35,000 is of 1.34 million. About 2.6 percent.

My point is, it's a big fucking county, with a lot of fucking voters. 35,000 new voters is great. Multiply it by 10, and we'll be getting closer to where we need to be.

The saddest part of your video is the end, with the girl talking about the woman who signed up 3 times for PEVL and didn't get her ballot. She didn't know she could go to her precinct and vote.

That's not voter suppression. That's not understanding how the system works. She should have asked someone.

The UniteHere union put up a video of a woman who didn't vote because she didn't receive her early ballot. But in this case, the woman seemed to know she could have gone to the polls, but didn't because she didn't have the time.

When the county does the canvass, we should be able to see where the proivisionals were cast. Perhaps we can see then if there are clusters in certain neighborhoods. That might be evidence of some hanky panky if they're mostly in Hispanic areas.

I'm trying to keep my mind open. I've also put in a public records request for info regarding the conditional provisionals. If those names skew Latino, that might be evidence of something.

I just want evidence. I have some names of people who have problems, and now that the preliminary count is done, I plan to ask county elections about their stories, one by one.

In the absence of a cause for a phenomenon, it's tempting to make assumptions. I'm not going to do that. If I end up finding evidence of widespread voter suppression by county elections, you better believe I'll be writing about it . At this point, the evidence does not back up the accusations.

There is another real possibility of voter suppression that I'm looking into. I need to suss it out first before I talk about it.

Sadly, Lewis lost by about 14 points. That was likely to happen anyway in a district redrawn to lean D, which is why the Dems didn't have to act like scumbags and slime a good man.

But hey, they did, and Ed Ableser won. So now I'll be waiting to see how many votes Ed misses this year. Hopefully Leah Landrum Taylor will kick his lazy ass and make him show up for work.
