Joe Arpaio at 50.74 Percent; Maricopa County Has 34,450 Votes Left

Emperor Joe, Sheriff for Life, with just barely 50-plus percent of the vote

Maricopa County Recorder Helen Purcell is reporting that, after today's count of outstanding ballots, 34,450 remain, 34,000 of them provisionals, and 450 of them earlies.

"We have completed the verification of all of the provisional ballots," Purcell stated in a press release Monday afternoon. "And the balance of what is left will be on tomorrow's report, which will include those ballots that need additional research, our Braille ballots, and our large print ballots."

Sheriff-for-Life Joe Arapio continues to hold on to a bare majority of the votes counted in his race, with 50.74 percent of the vote, or a 6.09 point lead over his Democratic rival, former Phoenix Police Sergeant Paul Penzone.

ARPAIO 674,530 50.74
PENZONE 593,505 44.65
STAUFFER 61,292 4.61

That 6.09 lead may seem substantial, but it's a close shave by Arpaio standards, the closest he's had in recent memory. In 2008, Arpaio scored 55 percent to Democrat Dan Saban's 42 percent, a 13-point landslide.

Take asinine Republican-turned-Independent Arpaio-stooge Mike Stauffer out of the current equation, add his numbers to Penzone's, and you'll see how far Arpaio's fallen in the esteem of the electorate.

The anti-Arpaio vote now stands at 49.26 percent: 1.48 points or 19,733 votes behind Arpaio.

Yeah, the pro-Arpaio vote's won the day, practically by one of Arpaio's nasty gray nose hairs. The remaining ballots counted likely will narrow the spread further.

Still, these results give you an indication of the public's widespread dissatisfaction with Arpaio's performance as sheriff.

Arpaio blew $7,177,756.36 on getting re-elected to his sixth term in office. As of today, that's $10.64 for each ballot cast.

Personally, I think this helps make the case for a recall of Joe, though there are many factors involved, and I don't think any group should try unless they believe they're going to have the organization and the funding to score the signatures needed.

But if they can make it happen, well, party on, Garth.

A win for the "system" that perpetuates the mass incarceration of people in the U.S.  A "war within our country".

A win for Arpaio, a county sheriff, who failed the hundreds of families and their children in the over 430  un-investigated sex crimes cases which included a murder against children and women -- is truly law enforcement out of control = corrupt. The voters who supported this corruption and incompetence are truly despicable and leave Maricopa County a more dangerous place.

This win puts ALL at risk in Arizona, those who visit and tourists, coming to a state that favors incarceration or education.  The expanded power of the private prison corporation with the Aug. 31 signed contracts with CCA (Corrections Corporation of America) for 2,000 prison beds that Arizona does not need should call for a public outcry!  Meanwhile MCSO will be scouring the county for "customers" for CCA for $$$'s for the "system".

Losing is losing.  We only lost by a little bit is comforting in little league baseball, but not real world politics.  That Joe was re-elected sucks.  That liberal-leaning PACs from around the company wouldn't sprinkle a little cash into Penzone's campaign coffers to counter Joe's media buys was disappointing.  Hopefully the constituencies that were engaged and mobilized during this election cycle will remain engaged going forward and will bring some real change to Arizona's political scene.

Joe may wind up right on 50% mark. But still... geezers win, geezers win!

In an interesting twist, ironic or not, the shurf now actually owes someone else for HIS election. It's normally the other way around.

Yes, Mr. Stauffer, you can pat yourself on the back as you begin to ready yourself for your new job at MCSO. You did your job well and now you will be rewarded.

Such a disappoint, you are.

Besides Stauffer being Arpaio's "Ringer" Arizona voters have shown that they will accept that Arpaio ignores Child Rapists, as long as he Persecutes Brown, Hispanic un-documented Immigrants and their legal Citizen Children/ Families.

In Arizona deep seeded "Corruption/Racism" is hard to root out.

Yep, David. What about the pesky rascal Adrian Cruz, the 'walk away escape artisit' who is a convicted rapist of a nine year old child he impregnated? Just ONE, of many....and MCSO let him walk out of court and it appears nothing was ever done to correct the situation.

@Tommy_Collins i voted Penzone, but in all honesty, i dont think Stauffers votes would have made a difference. realistically i think at the most Penzone would have drawn 1/2 of his votes (some people would not have voted Penzone just because he was democratic) even if it were possible to have taken all of Stauffers votes, it wouldnt have been enough. closer, but just not enough. if all the other problems (not enough provisional envelopes, changing districts, etc, etc) were combined with the Stauffer factor.....the gap would be very minute, but its now one of those "coulda, woulda, shoulda" moments.

Zigs, had Staffer withdrawn after the primaries and put his support behind Penzone, and campaigned for him I would think it likely that the shurf would be headed for retirement today. Just my personal opinion.

@Tommy_Collins thats what i would have wished, but i just personally cant see all of those votes going to Penzone, i dont know if that would make me a realist or a pessimist.

Well, the Stauffer supporters can no longer claim their guy was in it to win it and that he wasn't a spoiler. If he had withdrawn we would be in recount territory.I hope they are happy with their results.Joe must be grateful.
