Here you go - another effort to take the conversation off track and make it so that someone looking at this blog for the first time doesn't see comments about the article and how ethically challenged your client is, but see at the top of the blog irrelevant comments about 9/11. Nice job - very subtle but effective. If my theory is correct, the Arpaio campaign is definitely getting its money's work.

I just looked closely at the picture of Paul Penzone and he kinda reminds of the actor who played Elliot Stabler on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

Imagine if MCSO had a Special Victims Unit that functioned like the one on Law & Order: SVU..

Integrity. I would like to have elected officials holding the most powerful positions in the state to be individuals I could respect and trust. At the local / state level, it starts with the sheriff's office, county attorney's office, the AG and the Governor's office.

After watching Gov. Christie and President Obama together, I felt great pride in seeing opposing leaders coming together for the common good which is what America is about. Nothing less is acceptable.

Agreed but I at least am hopeful that Christie has learned something over the past few days and will come out of this with a better attitude and respect for the president, office and man.

We will see what happens.

I did love Christie chewing out a Fox and Friends reporter for even asking about the election 1 day after the storm

this is a little off topic, but is something Arpaio, Brewer and all of Arizona are missing an opportunity on. (YPS, I really want feedback from you on this, as well as anybody currently in law enforcement or with past law enforcement experience) what Stauffer is proposing is not a original idea, nor is it his idea entirely. it is something used by DOC right now. DOC "farms-out" inmate labor. they have "drivers-helpers", "fire-crew" and many other groups that leave prison daily, unsupervised except for a civilian (sometimes a DOC guard, depending on the job) to oversee the work. with a situation like hurricane Sandy or even some of the California fires, they should send inmates from DOC and county jail to help in the relief efforts. it is labor that would be paid under $1 an hour, that would be doing something beneficial, it would help the people who need the relief effort, and also help our states image. instead of trying to capitalize of the image of abusing the incarcerated, Joe and Jan could be showing Arizona's humanitarian side, and also using an untapped labor source. there are entire prison yards full of minimum security inmates that would be ideal candidates for programs like this. this is a program that would greatly benefit all involved. it would also be teaching people skills that could greatly aide in getting inmates skills that would help them stay on path to a better life upon their release.

Good idea but there are a few problems with it.

Security does become an issue to a lot of people, whether the concern is real or imagined it has to be taken into consideration. Because of that, while many states will accept such help from another state, they put massive restriction on it as to who, what, when and where and insist on full security instead of light security.

They also do this for liability reasons, since if they allowed it and 1 got loose and killed someone in that state, you now have a crime committed in 1 state, by a felon who was in the custody of another state - get's really messy then with claims of who was responsible, who should have been responsible, state soveriengty, etc....

Also the chaos of a disaster scene makes it that much harder to reasonably handle security, while making it that much easier to escape.

Some states allow it in fire fighting situations, forest fires out in the middle of nowhere so that the risk is minimized but get very very leary of it in residential areas.

Then there is the transportation of them and the security during transport.

There are a few other issues as well, prisoner rights (safety wise) being one of them. Also the legality of it has been raised as to the 'slave' labor aspect.

If they sign up for the work that is fine, but you cannot make them do it.

All in all, while a great idea it just becomes a major pain in the ass, more so than it's worth, which is why this kind of thing is done mainly in state where most of these concerns do not exist.

@yourproductsucks i dont mean it as a means of exploitation, rather more of a means of help. here is my reasoning. prison has almost nothing to do with reform. it is about punishmenut. there are no programs in effect for rehabilitation or even re-entry into society. recidivism in Arizona is over 80-85%. there are many people in prison who would like to turn their lives around or even help for that matter, but there really are no programs or opportunities for it. you would be amazed how many people would volunteer for an opportunity to help, or to get a chance to turn their lives around with something like this. and as for security issues...they are there anyways. i figure if joe is allowed to use inmates for his own political gain (I.E. the chain gang), but DOC actually has people who leave the prison daily with minimal supervision (I.E. fire-crew, drivers helpers, ADOT, maintinance, farm, irrigation, and others) why not use something like this as a tool for reform and or second chances, or even disaster relief (as the fire crew does). i can assure you the people who would volunteer would not view it as a means of exploitation but as a way to help. this is just a thought i had and wanted to see if anybody else thought if it was a good or bad idea. i do appreciate the input though

Have you noticed YPS has been conspicuously absent of late. My theory is that YPS was the Social Media Director of campaign consulting and PR firm Rose+Moser+Allyn (not a true sheriff's office employee as he claimed). Since R+M+A claim Arpaio as a client and both R+M+A and Summit Consulting claim a close working relationship with each each other, it only makes sense. I started referring to him as such last week and all of a sudden he disappeared. hhhhmmmm.......
