Jeff Flake Smiled at Rich Carmona's "Prettier" Joke, Now Lamely Makes Hay Over It

We aren't THAT sensitive over stupid stuff like that. Fact is Candy could be movie star pretty and still there would be someone out there "prettier" which is just in the eyes of the person making the remark. Next person to come could think just the opposite.

Fact of the matter is that Flake just wants a job. Carmona wants to serve his country.

Another fact is that Mormons have no room to talk when it comes to womens issues. They reduce women to cooks, house cleaners, vaginas and wombs.

And Joe Arpaio thinks that woman are inferior to men like him. That is why he puts prisoners in PINK underware. That is no different than Muslims making their women cover themselves. Arpaio is saying, a woman is below the level of a man unless the man has "fallen" down to her level. His primary position, though, is that woman are below men like him.

So I hardly doubt that Dr. Carmonas joke hurts  when we have been able to see the women-hater types in the Mormons and Arpaio for so long.

...Or Flake smiling could have been celebratory after receiving a gift wrapped softball from once fired Carmona.

I couldn't agree more that this is silliness and yet wonder if the same weight would be given if the shoes were on the other foot.

As a woman who works in a male-dominated field, I get a little tired of all of this phony pearl-clutching angst every time some man makes a stupid joke about a woman's looks.    Listen, folks, they do it and so do women, if you are honest about it.   Richard Carmona did not insult every women who ever lived.  I agree with Steven, the moderator is pretty.   But it is for Candy to respond.  My suggestion is  "Hey Richard, I'am a journalist; not a movie star.  Nobody will ever mistake you for George Clooney, either. "   All this nonsense just perpetuates the cultural pattern of learned helplessness and victimhood  that women deal with for most of their live, especially about their looks.  The attack ad is a perfect example of Flake trying to capitalize on those feelings and fears.  

The difference between Flake's immediate response and his attack ad reveals his true character.  A true gentleman who will defend your honor from bad jokes, but will destroy earned benefits like Social Security and Medicare, devastate the middle class while enriching the plutocrats,  refuse to fight for Arizona's rightful share of federal benefits, deprive you and your families of health care, and impose medieval views of personal and religious freedom, individual liberty, and employment rights on women and men as a whole.   Not exactly a knight in shining armor, is he?  He's more of an insult to Arizona women than Richard Carmona's one lame joke.  

I got phone calls from both Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney in the past 24 hours wanting to tell me about their good friend Jeff Flake.  LOL.  I wish it was really them instead of a recording that I got to hang up on!

BTW - I find it quite intriguing that a couple of the hardcore posters over on Sonoran Alliance are very anti-Flake.  "Conservative American" is making some thoroughly research and well-spoken arguments about why he is voting for Carmona and not Flake.

Nobody's gonna say that YOU (or me), Mr. Lemons, are prettier than Brahm Resnik... or even Candy Crowley. ;)

Btw, thanks for the brief video clip. It wonderfully puts this faux outrage in perspective.

In the big picture it's certainly a harmless joke. I think Dr. Carmona should have just said no one was injured or killed in the process of the joke, period.

There comes a time when a line needs to be drawn so that all jokes are not said in a hushed tone with the disclaimer, "If you're offended by the joke please feel free to never listen to another that I may offer".

Really, Mr. Flake.
