along with the policies and changes Arpaio PROMISED to make in the investigation of sex crimes was a $600,000 fund that was to go towards that. it has disappeared and did not go toward what it was supposed to. nobody seems to know where it went, and Joe is claiming to not know about it. (familiar response for joe). where did this money go? how many other funds have disappeared or been rerouted for Joe's "pet projects"?

So Rachel, when are you gonna admit that you work for a complete failure?

in 2004 arpaio signed an agreement to change and update policies and procedures involving sex crimes, to date he has not met the criteria he promised to meet. in 2005-2007 when he was the acting police agency for el mirage, he not only did not meet any of the standards he signed an agreement to reach, he also cut back the investigators working those cases and reassigned them to "special projects" those special projects were, mortgage fraud in fountain hills where he lives, and credit card fraud. not only did he promise to do more for those victims of rape and molestation HE PUT IT IN WRITING. joe is not only proving he has no regard for victims of rape, he never has. he did all of this before the elections 8 years ago only to get votes and had no intention of keeping his word. that is exactly what he is doing now. he is promising to look into these cases before the election, but just as he did with his written agreement 8 years ago......after the election he will go back on his word and leave these victims on the wayside AGAIN.

joe signed this agreement with 21 other investigative agency heads,PROMISING his detectives would abide by standards established for investigating sex crimes. he has yet to comply or meet these standards. joe is not good for his word, joe is not good for this county. if we cant believe him about this, how can we believe him about racial profiling? how can we believe him when he apologizes to the victims of these rapes and molestations? how can we believe him about what happened to the people who die in his jails? how can we believe anything he says? WE CANT

read todays (sunday) arizona republic. in it they are outlining 28 cases that MCSO is looking back into and what they are doing about those cases. all they are doing is shuffling them around, and they are only doing that because it is election time. they will continue to shuffle them around until after the election. if Joe is reelected, they will be tossed aside as unimportant cases. these victims deserve their justice. do not allow them to be pushed aside as insignificant cases. MCSO even rehandling these cases is an admission of their negligence. these cases were given little if any attention the first time around due to piss poor management by Arpaio. he is too busy investigation POSSIBILITIES of identity theft with his employer sanction sweeps to investigate crimes that HAVE been committed already and already have victims and suspects. he is going on a 50/50 chance of there being a crime committed as oppossed to a case where the crime HAS been committed and there IS already a victim. his pulling people off of these cases is equivalent to stopping a murder investigation to try to catch a guy who may or may not be selling drugs. the murder has a victim and is a crime that already happened with the perpatrator still free to kill again, whereas the other person might not be actually doing anything illegal. (and before you ask how i can compare these crimes, YES i find rape just as heinous if not more so than murder. and that is why i chose that example)

But you left out the key joined-at-the-hip MCAO who prosecutes these cases, convicts and sentences people to decades behind bars. In one term, under disgraced, disbarred ex-MCAO Andrew Thomas and his henchwoman, disbarred chief "charging" prosecutor ex-DCA Lisa Aubuchon bragged about their over 200,00 felony cases --- Joe gets to pick from these over 200,000 felony cases, the "high-profile" ones to scare the public, create chaos to win the vote.

We're witnessing the daily media and on the street witch-hunts rounding up or shooting dead the sex offenders. Why now? Why was the 19 year old Guadalupe young man shot dead when he could have been tasered? Why was a warrant for his arrest issued by Judge Granville? Is the sex registry list being used as a target for more lurid publicity? Whose names are being picked off? Why the recent witch-hunt in front of an elderly woman's home, who's lived there for over 20 years?

Peoples' lives will be destroyed while he racks up the "numbers".

danzigsdaddy, you see what we've been seeing for years -- the MCSO and MCAO pattern of holding back cases and throwing them out one after another during the key election period or to suit their media stunt of the moment -- building their 'brand" and resumes, since MCAO Montgomery, like Thomas had no real previous experience in what is the most powerful position in the state -- prosecuting people for conviction notches on their belts, which in turn "grow" the prisons. Those who were paying attention on August 31st, with signing of the CCA private prison corporation contract for 2,000 more private prison beds that Arizona is being turned into an official "prison" state.

Law enforcement arrests, inflames the public, the media sensationalizes all this, which the prosecutors love ("easy" convictions-by-media) and then drive up the "felony" counts which drives up prison population growth.

Wake up folks! This is bigger than the puppets who leading all this. All are at risk in a police / prison state. If not captured into it, then they are paying for it. This is the public's problem. If you think its NOT about you, think again.

I am very glad that KPHO did this interview and that it got aired. Not enough of the local media are showing this type of information, instead wanting to gloss over this and other problems in favor of stories that get them better ratings and play politically nice.

NT has been wonderful in getting the information out there, but alas, NT is a paper and nothing gets to people more than video and the boob tube (TV) so KPHO's efforts can only be a benefit to the reporting that NT has done on this

Sheriff Joe is a bigot who has no interest in the law or the citizens of Maricopa county, just on how much he can manipulate them so he can keep his kushy job as the 'master/king' of his own private army and keep his very lucrative side deals going to line his pockets.

The MCSO officers are in general no better since they go along with the problems rather than speak up about them and at least attempt to do something. They took an oath to the people of Maricopa county and that is their first responsibility, a responsibility they have abrogated under the guise of "it's policy" or that some supervisor told them to do it.

Well that only goes so far and after the years of abuses, deaths, mis-management, embezzlement, lost and settled lawsuits and their associated costs, every officer in MCSO is liable as well, not only of abrogating the oath they took to the people and the office but of criminal activity as well.

Thank you New Times and KPHO for keeping the investigating, the reporting and keeping this information out there against all of Joes attempts to have it hidden (speaking specifically about the NT editors arrests that Joe is now personally on the hook for)

Joe Arpaio and MCSO need to at a minimum go and should really end up in the very jails they are now running.

So, readers....Joe Arpaio never ordered investigations into the sex crimes debacle, never took the helm but rather delegated the issue to Henderslob. He also testified last week in the wrongful death trial of Braillard that he never asked for or an investigation into the death inside the jail. Yet he orders investigations of New Times readers, people dressed as Sheriff Joe, public critics or anyone else whom he believes to be a nuisance.

This guy is plainly and simply outrageous. A drooling, fading idiot. Get rid of him in November.

This is just ONE example of the victimization created by an elected official who puts lower priority 'crimes' ahead of the heinous criminal acts MCSO was made aware of and chose not to investigate. Imagine how this would have been treated if this young lady was the daughter of someone like State Senate President Steve Pierce? Or, even a family member of the disgraced former state senate president.

@whatamaroon rape is an anecdote? it isnt funny whether its real or made up. these cases are not made up, joe even admitted they happened and that he dropped the ball on them. an anecdote is a short amusing story about something interesting or amusing, how does any of this tickle your funny bone? its sick that it happened and even sicker that the law didnt have any priority for these crimes. joe was elected and paid to uphold the law, not to make bigger victims of the people who already were. joe sweeping these crimes aside for his own agenda, further victimized many of these people. thinking people dont find this amusing at all

@mymovie1111 i appreciate the concern, but tommy never denies he is a retired cop and i really have nothing to worry about. even if tommy was active law enforcement, i have nothing to hide. tommy has well thought out input on many subjects and we tend to agree on many subjects. i dont hold the fact that he WAS law enforcement against him, but if he was something like Joe Arpaio's 2nd in command........well then i would have a problem with him. if i was doing something wrong, i would thank you for the heads up, but i am not. i am not being sarcastic, but i already knew he is retired law enforcement, but thank you anyway for your concern. i appreciate the warning, but it was unnecessary
