Joe Arpaio Supports Comprehensive Immigration Reform? And All Aboard the Undocubus

Arpaio's Kumbaya moment comes around 28 minutes in...

Well, I reckon we can just forget about that racial-profiling trial underway against Sheriff Joe Arpaio and the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office in federal court, because Sheriff Joe believes in comprehensive immigration reform.

That's right, CIR may be anathema to the nativist junta that rules the Republican Party, but to listen to Joe on the National Public Radio show "On Point," you'd think he and President Obama could sit right down and hash out this immigration issue once and for all.

"Let's have some comprehensive immigration reform, if that will ever happen," Arpaio told host Wade Goodwyn during Tuesday's broadcast. "Let's hope that next year something does happen and get this settled. If you need more visas, work permits, that's OK. I'm for all that. Just don't cross that border [and] come into this country illegally. That's all."

A video about the Undocubus from the National Day Laborer Organizing Network

Arpaio's Kumbaya moment came during a discussion of the Undocubus's trek from Phoenix to Charlotte, NC for the Democratic Convention beginning September 4. Sponsored by the local human rights group Puente, the passengers are undocumented men and women, willing to risk arrest by simply declaring their immigration status publicly through this trip.

Arpaiofan, I just scanned the approximate 40 comments you've posted thus far today (August 1st) in NewTimes. You appear to be obsessed. While your thoughts and feelings may be dominated by a persistent need to argue against more reasoned views presented here, prolific unsubstantiated assertions don't qualify as meaningful argument. You may also want to consider stepping back from the computer once in a while.

Oh and by the way, those on the "Undocubus" are in for a rude awakening.  Their trip will be cut short because I promise you that ICE will be tailing it and first chance they get will arrest each and every illegal alien on board.  Do you really think you'll be able to get away with thumbing your nose at the federal government and expect no consequences?

If you don't like Sheriff Joe then you must be a Democrat.  And it is typical mentality that Democrats are all about wanting to be able to break the law with no accountability and basically wanting everything served to you on a silver platter for free.  You want everybody's taxes to be raised to subsidize your not wanting to pay taxes.  You demand welfare, food stamps and section 8 housing because you are all too lazy to go out and get a job.  And you don't like the thought of anybody standing in your way so that is why you oppose Sheriff Arpaio and the Republicans.  You think everybody is wrong except yourselves.  Well, I've got news for you all.  Things are about to change.  And I don't mean there will be a new Sheriff in town.  What is going to happen (and mark my words) is that your "gimme free and let me break the law" mentality is about to go away.  Coming this year there will be major changes to our laws that obviously you are not going to like but tough shit!

Joe Arpaio supports whatever he thinks will get him re-elected.

@Quinn777 I will step back from the computer only after I successfully get my point across and things change.  But I will be away for about a day beginning tomorrow evening while I return to Phoenix from California.

@arpaiofan Hey blow up doll face, your boyfriend Arpaio has been successful for quite some years at thumbing his nose at the feds, I bet your statement applies to him as well ;)

coz...

 @arpaiofan

Why not, Bozo Joe Arpaio does it all the time, until now, LOL,,,,

@arpaiofan ICE won't arrest a single one.  Want to know why: ICE doesn't arrest anyone, ever, for being an "illegal alien."

They take them into custody.

They place them in detention.

They do not arrest them because they are not accused of ANY crime.  It's a CIVIL violation. They face CIVIL deportation hearings.

The more you write, the more your ignorance is made known to the world. (Not to mention the hate you harbor in your heart ...)

@arpaiofan If you're done with your temper tantrum and your name calling, I think your mom wants you to go clean the kitchen.

I am a Republican and I do not support Arpaio.  He displays no conservative values; rather, he is a member of the lunatic fringe. Specifically, Arpaio has no respect for Civil Rights.  The (R) lead the war against slavery, fought the Southern Democrats over civil rights in the 50's and 60's and won the biggest civil right victory of them all: the Cold War.

Republicans stand for law and order, Arpaio has failed to properly serve literally tens of thousands of felony warrants and let some 400 child and sexual abuse cases go without even bothering to investigate the claims.

Republicans stand for conservative fiscal policy, Arpaio has cost the county some $100 million in payments to plaintiffs, lawyers and staff for his bad acts and he misspent another $100 million in taxpayer money in ways that have never been adequately explained.

Republicans stand for personal accountability, Arpaio always says it was someone else's fault.  The buck never stops with him.

Republicans stand for limited government, Arpaio has done everything he can to EXPAND police powers in Maricopa County, thereby increasing the reach of the government into the homes of taxpayers.

For these reason, many true conservatives oppose Arpaio.

I know, you don't, but you're really not a conservative either.  You're a scared little boy who retreats to the safe harbor of strawman arguments and black-and-white thinking when confronted with the simple reality that not everyone agrees with him.

Grow up.  Learn something about the subjects you "comment" on. Think before you write again.

@NormanShayet Arpaio is not thumbing his nose at the feds.  The feds are thumbing their nose at him and all other law enforcement in Arizona.

robert_graham

@TruConserv But oe's deputies do the same thing.  They take them into custody, place them in detention and turn them over to ICE unless they have committed a state offense.  You too seem to forget that being an illegal alien is ILLEGAL.  Just because people manage to evade capture at the border doesn't mean they should allowed to go free.  Allowing it would be like saying that unless shoplifters are caught in the act they do not have to be punished.  The only thing I hate are people who think they have the right to break our laws.

Thank you for articulating what should be the mantra for Republicans - unfortunately your party's been highjacked and doesn't stand for any of those things any more.  I wish you the best of success in reclaiming it.

robert_graham

@TruConserv You need to go get your head examined.  You've got a warped sense of reality.

You are wrong, unlike you I am a true Conservative.  You are not a Republican, you are a member of the "Moron" party.

And what do you mean by saying that Arpaio has done everything he can to expand police powers in Maricopa County?  Isn't that what any law enforcement agency is supposed to do?  You are just against him expanding his enforcement to of taking lawbreakers off the street.

Money he spends is only misspent if it does not benefit you or the liberals.  I bet that if Arpaio had announced he was spending a million dollars of taxpayer money to improve impoverished Hispanic neighborhoods and build a Hispanic Cultural center, you'd be all for that though.

Truthfully though, the real waste is perpetuated by the Democrats - our President is the biggest offender.  Just look at all the failed Stimulus programs that cost taxpayers billions of dollars and didn't help one single bit.  And the President and liberal politicians cannot stop talking about PORK after PORK programs they want to fund.  Would you agree or disagree that spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to study why deer get hit by cars when crossing the highway is a worthwhile project?  I could go on and on and on but I'll spare you the embarrassment.

When you get your law license or better yet ask Thomas to let you use his, then you can defend the so called frivolous lawsuits.  While you’re at it, teach yourself about immigration laws because right now your sound bites are without merits.

@arpaiofan and yet, Arpaio keep losing .. and we the taxpayers keep getting stuck for the bill.

FWIW: you naked declarations, unsupported by cogent argument or demonstratively true facts are less than persuasive ...

@LegitQuestions  @arpaiofan I want to be back by the 9th to attend Cordell Jude's court appearance and give support to Daniel Adkins' family to ensure his cold blooded killer is punished.

@arpaiofan  @NormanShayet Arpaiofan, to follow up on my post above regarding your obsession with ranting here using meaningless assertions, stating that Apraio is not thumbing his nose at the feds, when endless press conferences by Arpaio prove the contrary, only serves to make my point. If meaningless posts like this are your best effort to 'post until you get your point across and things change', then good luck. You'll be posting forever. (Which qualifies as obsessed)

TruConserv
TruConserv

@arpaiofan No, it is not "illegal."

You don't know what you are talking about.  It is not a CRIMINAL violation, it is a CIVIL violation.

Just because the phrase "illegal alien" is popular, doesn't make it accurate.

Several people have explained this to you in the past, how dense can you be?  Are you being deliberately obtuse?  Are you afraid that if you actually spent some time learning about the actual immigration law - not the pretend BS that the lunatic fringe pretends exists - that you might have to amend your thinking?

Seriously, learn the law.  Learn to use the right terms.  At present, you sound like an ignorant redneck.

TruConserv
TruConserv

@arpaiofan Please pay attention: I am stating that Arpaio is seeking to expand police power, and that, among several other reasons that you cowered away from, makes him not a conservative.

CONSERVATIVES LIKE LIMITED GOVERNMENT.

Specifically, Arpaio backs SB1070, a bill that MANDATES the police perform intrusive background checks on citizens, even when that citizen is not accused of any crime.  The mere coming into contact with the police is enough to MANDATE the police to investigate, and for your to bow to the police power. Other provisions also greatly expand police power. The LAW, at present, is that police DO NOT have that power.

Arpaio has tried to expand police immunity from lawsuit, thereby increasing the police power to violate your home, property and personal right and leaving you with no recourse. The LAW, at present, is that police DO NOT have that power.

Arpaio has argued that he has the POLICE POWER to stop anyone, at any time, based on his "gut" or the "gut feeling" of his deputies.  The LAW requires a reasonable and articulable suspicion, or, in other words, The LAW, at present, is that police DO NOT have that power.

Arpaio argues that he can use money allocated to his office, even when specifically directed, by law, to a set program, for any use he so desires. The LAW, at present, is that police DO NOT have that power.

I could go on, but the lawsuits that have smacked Apraio back into place run thousands and thousands of pages.

Bottom line: Arpaio wants the police to have more power than they have at present.  He wants the police to be more intrusive and to be less accountable.

NO TRUE CONSERVATIVE WANTS AN EXPANSION OF GOVERNMENT EITHER IN SIZE OR POWER.  ARPAIO - and you - WANT BOTH.

robert_graham
robert_graham

@TruConserv Please tell me what you mean when you say the police are expanding their powers.  Expanding it to what?

TruConserv
TruConserv

@arpaiofan Rail against the (D) all you want, I don't care.  Their bad acts do not absolve Arpaio and your efforts to change the subject simply reveal your inability to defend your claims.

In short: NO!, NO CONSERVATIVE THINKS THE POLICE ARE SUPPOSE TO EXPAND THEIR POWERS.  PERIOD.

That you think that is normal demonstrates you have no intellectual mooring in the what it means to be a conservative.
