Ken Bennett Steps In It, and, Yes, "Plays" to Birthers

fukino22222.JPG
Hawaii Health Director Chiyome Fukino's 2009 statement

Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett, a relatively moderate Republican, wants to be Governor. But to have any kind of shot at the 9th floor, he figures he must placate the activist base of Sand Land's GOP, which is deeply, rabidly insane.

Hence, the predicament he finds himself in, having to declare in an official press release that, "I am not a birther."

I believe him when he says that. I mean, anyone with an intelligence quotient in triple digits knows that the birther conspiracy is right up there with the Flat Earth Society in terms of credibility.

But when Bennett tells KFYI's Mike Broomhead that, "I'm not playing to the birthers," by asking for assurances from the state of Hawaii that it has President Barack Obama's original birth certificate in safekeeping, I don't think even Bennett believes Bennett.

His claim that he's not pandering to conspiracy theorists -- a claim made to contradict my colleague Matt Hendley's contention to that effect -- is belied by his actions.

Bennett insists he had no choice but to look into the birth certificate issue. His office had received more than 1,000 e-mails and a petition with 3,000 signatures from birthers, so he was forced to ask for confirmation of the birth certificate from Hawaiian officials.

Hey, what's a Secretary of State to do when besieged by crackpots?

And yet, a little Googling would have led Bennett to the 2009 statement above from Hawaii's then health director Dr. Chiyome Fukino that she had "seen the original vital records maintained on file by the Hawaii State Department of Health verifying Barack Hussein Obama was born in Hawaii and is a natural-born American citizen."

Bennett basically destroyed his chances of getting re-elected. Undoubtably, you did not satisfy the right wing crack pots who will only bring up "x" theory that the document is not proof. Then you have the left and moderates who will clearly think Bennett is out of touch since this birther nonsense was settled nearly 4 years ago. In order to make a select few happy, he destroyed his political career and made himself a laughing stock. How he can even go out in public, or visit a grocery store without someone giggling at him behind his back.

Well, it looks like those of us who hold our noses and still vote in the Republican Primary for the supreme pleasure of writing in Donald Duck or Wile Coyote or the Road Runner might have the distinct opportunity to vote between two distinguished statesmen in Gov. Brewer the "anti-birther" and S of S Bennett the "birther" candidate.  What a wonderful choice!  Personally, I will vote for that determined champion of the desert--WILE COYOTE.

Ugh, guess Kenny got a call from 'church leaders' in SLC to demand this, and, the bigger joke is that he said he would not ask his fellow Mormon, whose parents were born in Mexico, just another AZ racist, no more no less.

Well look here! Seems Mr. Bennett is one of the co chairs of the Romney campaign is AZ!
http://talkingpointsmemo.com/a...

Funny, that. He also said that he wouldn't endorse any candidate while SOS....and here he is. Where is the MSM?Bet no one knows this....just sayin'. Romney probably loves that Bennett will do his dirty work pandering to the crazy loons in this state, while he keeps his kid glove, soft hands, clean.

I actually had hope for Bennett. I thought at first he was sane.

Apparently, he's not sane. His continuing to pander and appease the birthers and the Tea Party assholes will only come back to bite him in the ass when he runs for governor after GED Jan is out in 2014.

Bennett is also Mitt Romney's Arizona campaign coordinator. I don't think Bennett knows what Mitt is capable of. After all, Mitt signed RomneyCare into law while governor of Massachusetts, hired illegal immigrants to cut his lawn in Belmont, MA, presided over the Big Dig tunnel disaster and effectively raised taxes on everyone living in Massachusetts (not like living there is expensive enough.)

Yep, Bennett is just like the MCSO shurf, Shurf Studboi, GED Jan, Candy Andy Thomas and disgraced, narcissistic, corrupt and mentally sick Pearce. Another right wing extremist holding office in Arizona.

if Bennett tries to remove Obama from the election he will face a losing court case
if Bennett allows Obama on the election, he will face the wrath of hateful angry birthers
it's a lose, lose situation for Bennett, the poor sap

McCain was born in a foreign jurisdiction (Panama Canal) to U.S.  Citizen parents.....where is the outrage from the lunatic fringe of the Republican Party regarding McCain's status as a presidential nominee and as an AZ Senator? McCain is white.....is that the difference?

When you pander to the kooks, you only have the kooks to back you.  Major fail for Bennett, never listen to the nuts, let alone act on what they say.

I think Mr. Bennett may have miscalculated.

He is putting on his birther shoes just as President Obama's campaign has started fighting back.

Until recently, President Obama and his campaign have made light of the birthers - and rightly so.  But in the past several weeks, we've seen the Obama legal camp rise up and start seriously and forcefully swinging back at this absurd, racist, partisan birther charade.

Indeed, the 125 or more consecutive cases the birthers have already lost (a perfect record!) came mostly from an Obama team that showcased its "Empty Chair Strategy," where usually they didn't even have to show up to win.

The next few weeks and months are not going to be so kind to birthers in court.  In fact, it's going to get downright ugly for them.

I can hardly wait!

Bennett, like every other politician, is full of shit, talks out of both sides of his mouth and will say and do anything to get elected, no matter how many lies he has to tell.

Oh now, he was just appeasing his "constituents."  So, I wonder if enough of us constituents who are fed up with our elected state officials and their childish, moronic antics asked Mr. Bennett to go jump into the lake, would he appease us?

WhoKnows

What's going to be interesting is how Romney reacts to this, as Bennett is his AZ Campaign co-chair.  And Mitt already had another co-chair, Babeu, drop out of the campaign.

I am surprised all you neanderthal progressives don't follow the news. The "long form birth cert' Obama "released", the one Sheruf Joe looked into, was challenged in a Court case a couple months back in a Court case, to which Obama's attorney said "of course that is a fake. It is so obvious everyone knows that. So you can't sue on the grounds of it being a fake"

Bennett has raised serious concerns about his character or lack of it. He will not get our vote using this dead issue to catapault himself to Governor. What a sick group of elected officials Arizona has.

Thought I would post this from Wiki.....................

A 2006 plea bargain involving Ken's son, Clifton, became controversial after several parents of victims accused Ken of exerting undue influence to affect the case.[12] In what a county attorney described as a summer camp "hazing ritual" gone wrong, Clifton and another man inserted a broom stick into the rectums of at least 18 boys in over 40 separate incidents.[13] Ultimately Clifton, only 17 years old and a minor, plead guilty to one count of aggravated assault. Clifton was sentenced to 30 days in jail and three years probation. Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard, said he "had questions about the handling of the case," but that his office had no authority to intervene.[14] Yavapai County Attorney Sheila Polk defended the plea bargain and accused the news media of misrepresenting the issue.2 more things. The boys were 13 or 14 years old and Ken was president of the Arizona Senate at the time. This is true slime. Read this link:   http://www.azcentral.com/arizo...

Bennett needs to discuss why his son was given a pass on a sexual assault case while all others are spending decades behind bars in Arizona under Arizona's draconian laws. What happens in Arizona should matter more to the people than retreaded "birther" witch-hunt. The public needs to know how his son got away with a violent sexual assault.

People would have greater respect for Bennett if he had declared the birth certificate issue settled. The birth certificate issue is racist and should be called out for what it is. Time for the reasonable and sane politicians to grow a pair so we can really 'take back our country' from the extremist obstructionists.

While there a many instances in which to distrust politicians on both sides, this is not one of them.  We need to be careful of "false equivalency" when discussing these core, serious issues.  The Arizona Democrats, while there might be individual transgressors, do not, in their official capacities set up mythical issues which would illegally rob the entire voting population of the opportunity to decide for itself which candidate to vote for.

Keeping Obama off the ballot is voter suppression and it is no less a violation of civil rights than the attempts of pre-civil rights movement southern states to prevent blacks from voting.  In fact, it is just a sorry extension of those laws and practices and the mentality that promotes it.

If such a practice is allowed to stand, then we will be no more a country of "exceptionalism" because of our tradition of democracy and free voting than was South Africa at one time and that is Zimbabwe, the Ukraine or Russia today.

If you want a Teathuglicant state of "Christian" ayatollahs, then keep voting for these dangerous, evil, dare I say it, fascists.  Just be prepared for minicams in our bedrooms and an election system in which only the 1% will be allowed to run for office or vote.

Wow, was this a sex offender case?????, a well orchestrated plea bargain by a county attorney who has often spoke out tough against criminals but yet let this one slide... so much for credibility and justice for all... on those who can afford the political strings get away with crime here.. In many states, "hazing" with injuries [mentally or physically]  is a crime and AZ is not different unless you are connected to the "good ole boy system.. right Mr. SOS????? well, another bone just fell out of the closet and won't be forgotten.. I see how these CA put the media in check in order to get away with their actions..

When one is "holier-than-thou" and tries to destroy others, while sitting in a position of trust in the government, as Secretary of State, we find it appalling and unconscionable how our President is being attacked once again on a moot issue.

Obama’s lawyer, Alexandra Hill, admitted that the image of
Obama’s birth certificate was a forgery and made the absurd claim that,
therefore, it cannot be used as evidence to confirm his lack of natural
born citizenship status. Therefore, she argued, it is “irrelevant to his placement on the ballot”.

Hill
went on to contort reasoning by implying that Obama needs only invoke
his political popularity, not legal qualifications, in order to be a
candidate.

Of course the root of this is a religion that taught this man he was superior because his skin is white, but let US not forget the other point of hate that drives Bennett and that is  affirmative action gave a black man an education at Harvard.  Then there is the real fear from conservative white American males, the big bone of contention, yes of course, penis envy.  So Obama is more powerful, smarter, better educated and is assumed to have a bigger penis.

Arthur

Proof? You gotta be kidding! You're the one who pretended to offer a specific quote, using quotation marks, no less: 'Obama's attorney said "of course that is a fake. It is so obvious everyone knows that. So you can't sue on the grounds of it being a fake."'

But when challenged to support your assertion, you pretend that *I'm*  the one who needs proof. Do I need to prove that the video's online? Start out by looking here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v... and then show us that your preposterous fake "quote" is accurate.

You know you're not fooling anyone with that kind of garbage.

Edited to add: By the way, I hope Secretary of State Bennett is reading this. He needs to be brought face to face with the appalling stupidity and dishonesty of the group to whom he is pandering in this shameful episode.

That's absolutely false. The video of the full hearing is available online and she clearly said nothing of the kind, even though some birther sources mendaciously reported it that way.

Please give an actual quote in which she expressed the views you are attributing to her.

"17 years per touch" in and of itself illustrates the perversion of the idiots who conceived such a law.  This makes "1984" look childish in comparison.  No one should tolerate this sort of sexual perversion masquerading as proper behavior when it is precisely the opposite.
