Joe Arpaio's Tent City: Shut It Down, Puente Protest Demands

Shut down Sheriff Joe Arpaio's notorious outdoors-deathtrap Tent City? Sounds like a solid idea to me, and one the Phoenix human rights organization Puente will be pushing Saturday, June 23 during a rally and vigil outside Joe's al fresco gulag.

I had to look twice at the announcement for this action initially, thinking it was promising to shut Tent City down. The message is slightly less in-your-face, though I doubt Joe will like it:

Likely following the Supreme Court decision on the DOJ SB1070 case, Puente and the UU's Standing on the Side of Love are calling for a rally and vigil at Sheriff Arpaio's Tent City.

Thousands of Unitarian supporters and community members will hold a peaceful vigil at the site of one of Arizona's longest standing embarrassments and epicenter of human rights violations calling for it to be shut down, Sheriff Arpaio's "tent city."

Time: 8 p.m., Saturday, June 23.

The demonstration is scheduled to coincide with a General Assembly of the Unitarian Universalist Association in Phoenix that weekend.

What's the problem with tent city? Our soldiers DEFENDING THIS NATION live in the SAME tents. Why do criminals get to live any better? Why do they get air conditioning and cable TV? They need to bring back chain gangs and put those criminals to work.

Who cares if their civil rights are violated? MAYBE THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE BROKEN THE LAW!?
Better thought - let's let the UU people, who are all rainbows, unicorns and hearts, allow the criminals to serve their sentences in THEIR homes!!
Oh...not such a good idea? OK. Then let them serve the time for their crimes in an environment that will encourage them to NOT offend again.
It's utterly ridiculous that people are discouraging this method of imprisonment at all. I'm ashamed of all of you.

First tent city is minimum security, houses non violent, unconvicted inmates IE petty crimes and simple drug possession. Second ALL inmates unconvicted of crimes like murder, arson, gun crimes, and domestic abuse are housed inside at around 60 degrees. Once you are convicted of a crime and are required to serve time, you spend it inside in another jail from the two mentioned above.

Arizona (under sheriff arpaio) already have chain gangs.

I suggest YOU get yourself informed of the issues at hand.

It's long overdue to take a county sheriff's PR stunts away from him that amount to nothing but cruelty and torture against humanity that sociopaths and dictators exspouse. It's time Arizona move toward a more civilized society. J.T. Ready, their "go to vigilante" massacred innocent people, a baby and then shot himself. Arizona has tolerated torture, murder and meyhem by "elected and self-appointed" so-called leaders. We thank those who will demonstate peaceful to abolish this sick PR game.

If you really want to shut tent city down, either check out www.votestauffer.com or the FB page for Mike Stauffer for Sheriff 2012. There are now four candidates running for sheriff. Mike Stauffer is the only one who says tent city CAN and WILL be closed. He already has a plan to do that and it won't cost the tax payers any money. Don't just take my word for it, ask him yourself. He's very responsive to questions you ask at the FB page!

Nutraloaf, sometimes called prison loaf, disciplinary loaf, food loaf, confinement loaf, seg loaf, or special management meal, is a food served in United States prisons to inmates who have demonstrated significant behavioral issues. It is similar to meatloaf in texture, but has a wider variety of ingredients. Prisoners may be served nutraloaf if they have assaulted prison guards or fellow prisoners with sharpened utensils. Prison loaf is usually exceedingly bland in taste, perhaps even unpleasant, but prison wardens argue that nutraloaf provides enough nutrition to keep prisoners healthy without requiring utensils to be issued.

There are many different recipes which include a range of food, from vegetables, fruit, meat, and bread or other grains. Some versions may be vegetarian or vegan. The ingredients are blended and baked into a solid loaf form. In some institutions it has no fixed recipe but is simply the regular prison meal (including drink) blended together. In one common version, it is made from a mixture of wheat bread, non-dairy cheese, various vegetables, and mixed with vegetable oil, tomato paste, powdered milk and dehydrated potato flakes. Prisoners do not need utensils to eat it, and it is generally served on a piece of paper, rather than a tray.
