Joe Arpaio's Rival Paul Penzone: Video Interview by Dennis Gilman and Yours Truly

Penzone: Looking to put ol' man Arpaio out to pasture

I've been wanting to interview Sheriff Joe Arpaio's two rivals in this year's general election for a while now. So recently, Phoenix videographer Dennis Gilman and I met separately with former Phoenix Police Department Sergeant Paul Penzone and Scottsdale Police Lieutenant Mike Stauffer.

As you likely know, Penzone's running for sheriff as a Democrat, Stauffer as an Independent. Both men are thoughtful individuals, and either would be an improvement over the current situation, obviously.

Thing is, one of them is going to have to drop out. A three-man race will dilute the anti-Arpaio vote, and our near-octogenarian clown of a sheriff will stroll to victory as a result.

Actually, even if there's only one David battling this Goliath, he'll need more than five smooth stones, as Arpaio's currently squatting on a $3.4 million campaign honey pot. And the sheriff will likely have more dolo by the time the general election begins in earnest.

Gilman culled this seven-plus minutes of footage from an interview that lasted about a half-hour, so some stuff landed on the cutting room floor. Still, this gives you a longer look than normal at this wannabe sheriff. In it, Penzone talks about Tent City, the posse, Arpaio's antics, and cleaning house at the MCSO.

I hope that the history of all candidates is examined in depth. The last thing we need is another train wreck like Pinal sheriff Studboi Babeu.

Arizona is known for train wrecks -- Keating, McCain, Meachem, the justice system in jeopardy by the "troika" -- Thomas, Aubuchon, Alexander, Hendershott, arpaio, et al. Vote for the lesser of two evils.

The Bald Bunion is just one car attached to the very long train of corruption headed by the MCSO shurf.

Read "penzone" as "friendzone". Damn it, Reddit...

Penzone is much better.. Stauffer should drop out.  He's not viable and besides, he's an independent.  In this county only a Dem or Rep can win.

Stauffer has the support of the AG? What does that tell you?

Nice try at misformation.  Stauffer is a republican.  He registered independent to step out of the the GOP/Arpaio's "kick 'em in the primary" game.

In this county, only a republican has a chance of beating Arpaio.

Sylvia is right. Stauffer may have been a registered republican in the past, but he is no longer a member of the party. Without the support of either party he will continue to be irrelevant. The man has less that $300 in campaign finances.

Prior to running for Sheriff, Arpaio was a Democrat. Chew on that for a bit.

YPS works for the Flaccid Fucknut (which I pity him for). He is NOT the Bald Bunion of Pinal County (which is good).

I agree with YPS that change is sorely needed at MCSO.

Stauffer has been very vocal about the changes he'd implement if elected as MCSO shurf. That's what Penzone NEEDS to do. Inform the voter.

Stauffer's campaign is rather weak. However, at least he IS campaigning. Penzone hasn't done anything to get his candidacy off the ground. He needs to campaign if he hopes to win the office of MCSO shurf.

YPS, Prior to running for Pinal county sherf, Paul (Studboi) Babeu was a pedophile. That didn't stop you from standing up for him repeatedly here on NT comments.
Methinks you are Sherf Studboi Babeu himself..or one of his lackys.

Penzone and Stauffer should team..  If they are both in the general, it will split the no-joe vote.

How about this?  One runs for sheriff, with the other campains with it known that they will get the "2nd in command" position.  They campaign together, and present more than double the smarts of Joke!

Yourproductsucks

That's stupid.

Not so stupid, really. Let's say Mike Stauffer drops out and sends his support to Penzone. Penzone stomps the Old Geezer in the election. The day he becomes sheriff he brings in Stauffer as his chief deputy. Penzone is the political figurehead and Stauffer has the admin experience to pull off four years of cleaning and transition for the 2016 election cycle. By then most of the mush will be swept out and more caring professionals brought in to make MCSO the organization you and I want it to be.

Tommy, Great suggestion.

Because it would insure that Joke gets his ass kicked to the curb?

Assume new Sheriff.  Who would you want taking the Henderblimp position?  The Blimp is as dirty as Joke!  KNOWING who it was could help a candidate!

Yourproductsucks

Your ignorance is cute.

Should one of these two candidates win the office of the Sheriff, they will most certainly bring in their most trusted ally to take the position of chief deputy. It is the only way to ensure success in the inevitable changes that will need to take place. Bringing in a political adversary would undermine the winners ability to properly lead.

These two guys don't like eachother.

Joe Yahner for Maricopa County Sheriff!

Tommy Collins
Tommy Collins

 Why?

Yourproductsucks
Yourproductsucks

Yahner has done an admiral job as interim Chief of Phoenix. He took the reins amid great turmoil within the agency. Sgt Drenth's death, the off duty scandal, the political upheaval caused by Mark Spencer, Jack Harris and Phil Gordon, the professional manner that the sex case debacle was publically handled. I saw nothing negative with the way he handled the department. He showed he has the leadership ability to manage a large department.

The new Phoenix Chief seems like a qualified individual. Neither Stauffer nor Penzone could have been competitive in becoming Chief of PPD. Yahner was a top four finisher. That says something.

I'm still hoping a real candidate enters the race. There is still time.

Not Surprised, Again

Again, you've missed the obvious.  Yahner isn't running for sheriff.  If he doesn't run, he can't win.

Penzone is as qualified to be the sheriff as a copy boy is qualified to be the publisher of the NT.

As qualified as a guy that sold tickets on a non-existant space ship in 1985?  That would be Arpaio and his travel agency.  The one he started after the DEA forced him into early retirement.

(seems he kept babbling about being the AIC of the French Connection and how he arrested Elvis)

The "French Connection" and "Elvis" are even in Joke's last book.   Total BS, but that's Joke!

I don't know. Arpaio only got 55% of the counted votes in 08. The "running for spite" statement sunk his ship. I think Arpaio finishes third. peace

Dennis Gilman

I'm not certain that Arpaio will stroll to victory with 2 good candidates running against him but I agree that one should step down. I also think it's early and perhaps we can even get a debate together before May. I would say that by June someone needs to drop out.  That will be when the candidates ego must be replaced with true commitment for what is right for the people.

Penzone is a very refined public speaker, He gets paid very well to speak but lets look into his record with the Phoenix PD to look whats in his closet!

I like both Penzone and Stauffer as people and as candidates.

They are both PROFESSIONAL law-enforcement officers. Something that the Flaccid Fucknut is not.

Both have AZPOST certification. Also something that the MCSO shurf does not have.

Both are not senile, nor are they circus clowns. The Old Fool is.

Time to take out the trash!

From the guy who led the Pearce ouster and got the sham candidate exposed in that election:
"This year, Parraz says, there will be a credible Democrat—Paul Penzone—running against Arpaio, as well as a grassroots movement dedicated to installing a new Sheriff. And, Pearce’s recall has created momentum among activists who once believed removing Arpaio would be impossible."

See my You tube post: "Near-miss over Arizona"

These are two Disguised Drones, a phony Southwest, and a phony Piper Navajo, there are hundreds of these circling over Phoenix, and they have Technology like what was used to shoot a Somali Pirate viewing him right through the roof of a life Boat.

Many of these U.A.V.'s fly out of Mesa Gateway Airport, for one of many locations.

Sadly Technology has surpassed our "Freedom, and Constitutional rights."

I have years of very clear video of these Drones, the Airliner Drones look like Airliners, however have no windows.
