I think you are jumping the gun simply because another potential candidate is Possibly entering the race. I still hold out hope that somewhere out there a worthy opponent is gearing up to enter and win this Office. Don't be pigeon holed by Stauffer simply because he was the first to declare candidacy. There is no rule giving the first candidate the job. Pearce and Arpaio are politicians. They are not friends. They had one common thread that brought them together, no different than Arpaio's relationship with Napolitano or Arpaio's relationship with Mary Rose Wilcox. You are a bright person. Don't get hooked into believing every conspiracy theory presented simply because one conspiracy one time had some merit.

• I heard Penzone speak at a well attended meeting of activists I attended about a month ago.  I don't know who invited him, but apparently he'd asked to speak to the group.  I thought he was fine, had a confident presence, spoke in generalities, nothing negative to say about Arpaio. Nobody asked any questions of him, and he didn't encourage same.  I believed him to be genuine.  The Republic ran an article on his possible candidacy for sheriff a while later, and one commenter posted that Penzone was put up to be an "Olivia Cortes" (to dilute anti-Arpaio votes)  which I refuted. However I heard the same thing from a few others.  Then came other things, that showed very poor judgment on his part with what he was saying publicly. Go back to the New Times article and read the transcript of all he said to that sensational Nancy Grace on her program. It was outlandish.  Evidence?  Geez, with the Cortes matter, from the onset everyone knew she was a fraud from her behavior, plus she told neighbors she was a Pearce supporter. She was beholden to her brazen handlers for whatever reason, yet it took a lawsuit against her and some very dedicated and bright people to expose the fraud. When she finally resigned after her handlers were subpoenaed, it was too late for her name to be taken off the ballot. It's early yet. I expect sharp reporters from the print & TV media will be asking lots of questions of ALL candidates for sheriff.  With regard to Penzone's declaration of interest, remember too, Pearce and Arpaio are two peas in a poisoned pod.  Nothing is beneath either one of them.  Power and winning by any means is a given with both of them. One person suggested that Pearce probably gave Arpaio and his cronies the idea of a "dilution" candidate to help Arpaio.  We'll have to see how sheriff candidacies play out in the many months to follow.  Ask yourself, why does Paul Penzone want the job, and DOES he really want the job, and is he really equipped for it.   

• I watched it on 12 news.  Too bad they don't post the entire interview.  The problem with the press is they don't do a lot of things on Stauffer.  Stauffer doesn't seem to make much effort into getting his name and face out there.  He definitely needs more exposure. 

• It is a long time between now and November and many things can come out about Arpaio and his "I don't recall" issues in MCSO.  Just look at the few things that have come out in the past few weeks.  Anything can happen.  Be positive and expect the best.  I try to in this and all else in my crazy life.

• I will and Penzone hasn't officially joined the race.

• Joe Dana cut and pasted the interview and Stauffer has the glossed up version that only has about ten seconds of the actual interview on it which makes Stauffer a bit more palatable. Stauffer posted it on his site.

• If you do a little research, Eleanor, you can be assured that Penzone will be "playing the same game" as Arpaio.  I don't mean the madman, vindictive, megalomaniac and pathological liar that Arpaio is (at least not yet).  Penzone is a talker, skilled in PR which is TOO smooth,  schmoozes people with what he thinks they want to hear, but has exercised some very bad judgment.   Keep your eyes and ears open.

• I will check it out.  I have liked Stauffer's fb page so I get regular updates on what he is doing.  In saying that, I think more could be happening on his front.  I don't think most people have even heard his name. 

• I agree with most of what you say on this post.  I have been watching Stauffers campaign and I think he could be doing more.  The only thing I don't agree with is calling people names but other than than you made some great points.  As usual. I think that most people don't understand that you want a quality candidate. I'm not saying that Stauffer isn't but his presence needs to be stepped up.  Maybe he should hire Arpaios's RP chick. On your subject change, regardless of what the politicians say or do I will continue to do my job in the same professional manner every other law enforcement officer around me does.  We don't do anything different from PPD or Scottsdale PD or Mesa PD or Gilbert PD or even DPS.   My record of arrests and convictions speak for themselves.  I have never been named in a law suit of any kind and I will continue to ensure that the rights of others are protected.  All Others.  I learned long ago not to fret over those things I can't control.  It's not hard to see that the assistant attorney for the DoJ has ulterior motives and his comments bolster his position.  Whether you choose to see it is your prerogative.

• It happens. It doesn't happen often, but it happens. The house burning down was a result of a number of issues, some of which were the fault of the Sheriffs Office. As a result, risk Management paid the claim for damages. The suspect was a bank robber, if I remember correctly, he was armed and he barricaded himself in the house, remaining there while the fire spread rather than surrendering and allowing the fire department to extinguish the blaze. This scenario does no point to incompetence from the sheriffs office as you would like to believe it does. A flash bang caught curtains on fire. Nothing more, nothing less. Every SWAT team in the nation deploys flash bangs...
