Joe Arpaio Resignation Drive Endorsed by Congressman Ed Pastor

America's "toughest" sheriff -- not so tough on child molesters...
Congressman Ed Pastor of Arizona's 4th District has joined the ranks of Sand Land politicians calling for Sheriff Joe Arpaio's resignation over the MCSO's mishandling of more than 400 sex crimes cases in El Mirage, many involving child victims.

Today, Pastor's office released the following statement endorsing plans by some on the City of Guadalupe's Town Council to introduce a resolution calling for Arpaio to take a powder.

"I stand united with my constituents and town officials of Guadalupe in support of the Guadalupe Resolution calling for the resignation of Sheriff Joe Arpaio," Pastor said.

Pastor's announcement makes him the third elected official and the second congressman to call for Arpaio's head. (See note below.)

U.S. Representative Raul Grijalva was first, and yesterday, state Representatives Ruben Gallego and Katie Hobbs joined the growing (and so-far Democratic) bandwagon.

The MCSO has long provided police protection for the square-mile town of Guadalupe, but the MCSO's presence has also been controversial.

Guadalupe has unsuccessfully sought alternatives to its contract with the MCSO heretofore.

Citizens for a Better Arizona, the group that successfully recalled ex-state Senate President Russell Pearce, has been pressuring Pastor to act, and CBA is pushing the resolution Guadalupe will inevitably consider.

Thing is, according to Guadalupe town councilman Andrew Sanchez, formerly a victim of the MCSO's retaliation for his anti-Arpaio activism, the resolution is not currently on the agenda, having been successfully blocked by Guadalupe Mayor Yolanda Solarez.

Sanchez told me this morning that the resolution will likely still be the topic of public comments, but that it may have to wait to January to be formally introduced and discussed.

Nevertheless, activists are encouraging folks to come out to the Guadalupe's city council meeting tonight.

Seems folks want to raise hell about Arpaio's scandal du jour, even if this one has been out there in the local press for a while, despite the AP's recent regurgitation of it.

And considering the subject matter, who can blame them?

NOTE: CBA has released a longer list of names of Democratic politicians calling for Arpaio's scalp. I quote this list below, though with the caveat that I have not yet been able to verify everyone who is listed.

U.S. Representatives

Congressman Raul Grijalva

Congressman Ed Pastor

State Legislators

Rep. Katie Hobbs

Rep. Ruben Gallego

Rep. Daniel Patterson

Rep. Chad Campbell

Rep. Catherine Miranda

Rep. Tom Chabin

Anyone else notice how ED Pastor always jumps in once it's been well established that what's going on is popular with his constituents???How about taking a page out of Randy Parazz's book and actually taking the lead on something ED... you have been in power for so long you forgot why we put you there...you are supposed to be our VOICE, INSTEAD YOU HAVE TURNED INTO OUR ECHO!

I attended the town council meeting in Guadalupe last night after I'd learned about the proposed resolution in mid-afternoon.  It was gratifying seeing all the active interest by Guadalupe residents at the well-attended meeting and hearing the sentiments expressed freely and openly by about ten people.

With the number of victims (if there were any at all) it would seem that patterns should be sought regarding geography and socioeconomic status.  There might be enough there to prove with 90 or even 95% certainty that certain classes of people were prominent in the ignored cases.  Obviously, I am thinking civil rights and equal protection issues.

Of course the DoJ moves at warp speed on civil rights cases.  Maybe in my lifetime?

I don't believe Arpaio will resign.  He might, conceivably, decide not to run again.  This would give him 11 months to shred and delete things, and after all, this cannot have been Joe's best year, what with being:>  forced to fire three of his top deputies>  subject to near continuous ridicule from his beloved media>  forced to say "I don't recall" 27 times when trying to help out his former ally, disgraced former Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas - making Arpaio look like a liar, a senile old fool, or both>  forced to submit a letter of recommendation for someone he recently sued for racketeering>  Bill Montgomery's surprising and refreshing relative coolness towards Arpaio>  the thumping defeat of his former ally, disgraced former Senator Russell Pearce>  and now this sex abuse of children thing, which makes him look grossly negligent and incompetent

Still, I'd be very surprised if he resigned; he's so pig-headed.

That means it's up to the sane people of Maricopa to get Arpaio out.  He will get the racist vote, the very occasional non-racist who's obsessed about immigration, the voyeuristic sadists who enjoy contemplating prisoners treated in brutal and appalling ways, and other demented people.   The sane voters will have to outnumber these nutty people.

Rather than bellyaching on the computer or marching in protest, I'd suggest:

> Registering people to vote> Getting them to get their ballot in the mail; people who get their ballot in the mail vote three times as often> Volunteering for and donating to Citizens for a Better Arizona (truer words were never spoken) at citizensforabetteraz.com

I must say I haven't noticed marchers and protesters carrying voter registration forms.

Resignation, followed by conviction, followed by the rest of his greasy life in a PMITA prison.

Sheriff Joe said he got the support of the Mayor of Guadalupe tonight. These people have such an infiltration of our government, you can't trust anyone to do the right thing. As we're making a list of those who are calling for a resignation we need to make another list of those that are ignoring facts and get them out too during this next election. Pearce is out, that was just the tip of the iceberg and we can't do this one by one. 2012 election needs to be full participation to clean up our government.

The stupid old man doesn't realize that Rep. Grijalva's congressional district (7) encompasses a large portion of southwest Phoenix and southwest MARICOPA County.

Perhaps the shurf should pay attention to political districts, eh?

Abuse of children is not a partisan issue.

Joe will never go voluntarily, there are too many skeletons in too many closets at MCSO, all of which lead directly back to Joe. If he thinks, when all the dirt and corruption is finally revealed, that the GOPers he endorses will ride to his assistance then he is more senile than most of us already believe. He will try to die in office, the alternative for him is to die in jail, wearing pink underwear eating mystery meat.

It's good to see our Democratic leaders finally stepping up & speaking out on this indefensible incompetence of JoKKKe AARPiehole. AARPiehole's failure to investigate these horrible crimes against these children is unforgivable & he should resign immediately. Now maybe Raul Grijalva or another one of our Democratic leaders can request some airtime on one of the national news shows(Rachel Maddow?) & get this out on the national air waves so the whole country can see what a complete incompetent failure AARPiehole is as a sheriff. I don't think any of these Democrats have the courage to do so,except maybe Grijalva.

Joe Arpaio should resign. He is, after all, a mentally sick and corrupt old man who is a complete and utter disgrace to professional law-enforcement officers everywhere.

The 430 botched sex crimes is just the latest round of MCSO/MCSO shurf BS/corruption/malfeasance in office. I hope voters are awake enough to boot him out of office come next November.

I agree,it should not be. As you can tell by the list, there has not been any Rep. to come out & condem AARpiehole on this issue. This seems to suggest that they either side with him or are to cowardly to step up & do the right thing. By keeping silent on this issue the Reps.are themselves making this a partisan & political issue. One has to wonder what the reason behind their silence is.

How about collectively requesting air time, remember, there is saftey in numbers. Look at it as a christmas gift from the Republi-Cons. If the Dems speak out nationally, that will make the Republi-Cons have to come out & take a position on this. Do they stand with AARPiehole ? Or do they stand with the rule of law?( as they so often like to profess) Do they stand on the side of all the innocent victims ? The Dems have this issue laying on a silver platter, but what will they choose to do with it?

PTCGAZ

yes, now if we could get all the Dems to publicly speak about this maybe a few of the Repubs will get in on the act.

Even if I was a republican I wouldn't like the latest scandal (ya know child rapists not being investigated)

This not about Obama, It's about 400 cases of predators prey on victims and Arpaio allowing to continue to prey on children. So throw out faglord Herb!!! Yeahh!
