Russell Pearce Supporter Ron Ludders' Lame Robocall Targeting Democrats and Latinos (w/Update)

What we'll be serenading the Pearce folks with this Tuesday evening...

In what smells like a classic attempt at voter suppression, the conservative Safeguard Arizona's Future PAC, which previously backed wackjob loser JD Hayworth in the 2010 Republican U.S. Senate primary, is doing robocalls to Democrats in Legislative District 18, encouraging them to cast a "protest" vote by writing in a candidate on the ballot.

Thing is, by doing so, an elector would be throwing away his or her vote. According to state law, a write-in candidate must register with the Arizona Secretary of State, otherwise a write-in vote is meaningless.

Maricopa County Elections Director Karen Osborne confirmed to me today that no one registered with the SOS' office as a write-in candidate in the LD18 recall, so there are none on the ballot.

The robocall, as received by LD18 Democrat Kerry Torres, states the following, read by a man with a Latino-accent:

LD 18 Recall Election Robocall by fanarchy

"Voters beware: If you plan to vote this Tuesday, you should know that both candidates for state Senator, Russell Pearce and Jerry Lewis, are Republicans. The only other candidate, Olivia Cortes, was forced to withdraw last month.

"You can protest this one-sided election by writing in your own candidate. This message is paid for by the Safeguard Arizona's Future PAC, because we believe a well-informed voter is the best voter."

Riiight. Maybe that's why the robocall fails to "inform" voters that Olivia Cortes was herself a Republican, as well as a sham candidate placed on the ballot by Tea Party members in order to assist their wingnutty God, Russell Pearce.

You can also listen to the sound clip, here.

(Posted with the assistance of my own personal "Q," New Times clubs editor Benjamin Leatherman, aka "fanarchy.")

I'm sure it's no mistake that the narrator happens to sound like a sub for Dos Equis' Most Interesting Man in the World.

Torres explained she captured the audio through her computer phone service.

"Torres is my maiden name," she explained. "I have to wonder if I used my married name [which is Anglo] if I ever would have received the call."

John Giles, chair of Pearce-foe Jerry Lewis' campaign for state Senate, issued a statement characterizing the robocall as misleading and a stab at voter suppression by the PAC's chairman Ron Ludders.

"Why would Ron Ludders want to encourage people to vote for candidates who were not Republicans?" Giles asks in the press release. "Isn't he part of the party faithful? This is yet another reason why voters want a fresh voice in Mesa."

The right-wing Sonoran Alliance blog identifies Ludders as the former leader of the North Phoenix Tea Party

I called Ludders at his home, and he acknowledged the robocall as being from his PAC. He said the intent was to inform voters, not deceive them. He claimed ignorance of the fact there are no registered write-in candidates in the LD18 race.

As for a the narrator with the Latino accent, Ludders stated that it was a member of his group, but would not say who. He also denied that the robocall was an attempt to suppress the Democratic vote.

Whatever. If Ludders and his crew really think such eleventh-hour shenanigans will work, they're wrong. Pearce is headed for defeat in LD18, and it's actually because of such Tea Party monkeyshines that his political career is doomed.

Heh. Fire up that old Paul Leka hit, Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye.

UPDATE: Ms. Torres sent me a new version of robocall. Same script, but this time no Latino accent. Listen below if you like.

exactly how dumb do they think we are?  no wonder it's so easy to fool the GOP faithful.  it this is the scams they come up with...

IllegalImmigration, Voter fraud and E-Verify.

Georgia'sSecretary of State’s office is obligated to administer elections and investigateallegations of voter fraud. Brian P. Kemp, who is Georgia Secretary of State, said that Georgia’s elections are among the most secure in thenation, and we take every measure possible to guarantee the integrity, security, and fairness of our elections process. Election and voter fraudundermines the very foundations of our great state and country, and will not betolerated under any circumstances. Then in the Liberal Progressive window or aleftist Democrat Congressman called Keith Ellison from Minnesota’s wantsto impose on his state a slack election system and also on the rest of this sovereignnation. This moron has introduced two bills to impose the worst twoaspects of Minnesota’s system on the entire country. This arrangementundermines election integrity and trust we used to share as citizens.

This Democrats “Same DayRegistration Act” H.R. 3316 and its attendant H.R. 3317 would involve allstates to allow unconfirmed voters to register and vote on Election Day. Thiswould be outrageous enough and is mild compared to being infuriated by thesecond bill, namely “Voter Access Protection Act,” which would forbid statesfrom requiring voters to show photo ID.  Perhaps 25 years ago—but notanymore, when we have notorious groups like Acorn, caught using low-life’scollecting hundreds of thousands of registrations, which should have been flusheddown the toilet. Democrats are out to win the presidential race, in any waythey can—and have, as ACORN was prosecuted by numerous state attorneys forfraudulent voter registrations. Its federal funding dropped a supposedlydismantled, but however it has resurfaced in New York under a new name.  To me and I’m sure to tens of millions of TEAPARTY members this is beyond incredulous, that any politician would try todestroy what little is left of our freedoms. Under no restraint H.R. 3316, inexpelling all photo identification necessities, and H.R. 3317, that would allowpeople to walk into a polling station, register and vote straight away in all50 states. GOD HELP US!

America can no longer support the poverty entering this country. If we don’t look after our own veterans, our own homeless, how we supposed tobe the PPO health care for the world. This is an invitation to financialdisaster, when large parts of the 16 percent living in poverty are illegalmigrants and immigrants

Rep. Ellison states his proposalsare needed to “curb voter suppression” and shield the rights of young, elderly andminority voters, except photo ID laws in 14 other states have been challengedin America and state Supreme Courts and plaintiffs have no evidence that asingle voter would be disenfranchised by those laws. Perhaps Mr. Ellison shouldinvestigate the growing trend of illegal aliens or even permanent residence, either by being misled by registration canvassers or using ‘The Motor Voter’bill to vote. This is extremely dangerous in very close races and has been prevalentin many states throughout the nation. Hopefully the citizens of Vermont seethrough this reckless law, and drive this unpatriotic fool from Montpelier.

The state of Georgia maintains awebsite for US citizens or any individual to inform the Secretary of State ofviolations in their voting law. In fact every American state should provide awebsite to report this serious wrongdoing, as it is undermining the basicfoundation of citizen’s right to vote. This is not just a threat within a thepolling stations, but where anybody could walk in and profess to be a citizen,Under bills introduced by Rep. Ellison brought to  Congress or in his own state of Vermont wouldhave irredeemable consequence  to ourelectoral system. , One of the easiest documents to forge—is the absenteeballot. Outside of the influence of a Secretary of State’s Elections Divisionis easily compromised.

We already have almostindescribable problems with the illegal aliens side-stepping our borders, orslipping through air terminals.  EveryAmerican state should power their politicians to supply a law, that everyAmerican has a government photo ID to vote. In addition today when our countryis carrying a near 15 Trillion deficit, we need to start repatriating allillegal foreign nationals. When our elderly cannot find a seat in a cloggedemergency room, as the hospital has become overpopulated with illegal parentsand their children. That these impoverished people have no conception of thecost for a minor infection, an Aspirin or major treatment. That these are unfundedmandates, which include the education of their many children, is carried by theUS taxpayers.

Overcrowded public schoolclassroom, congested hospital emergency waiting rooms, is what’s seen above thesurface—the massive financial costs are hidden below. Over a $113 Billiondollars is attributed to subsidizing foreign aliens, so surveyed by a Heritagefoundation report.

No matter where theseundocumented are from, they must go home. This is where Lamar Smiths E-VERIFYis so urgently important. The ‘LEGAL WORKFORCE ACT’ will shift the legalresponsibility, over to the employer. They will be charged with insuring everyworker fills in a I-9 form and identifies the recipient, who has been hired. That the business owner checks their ’Right to Work’ verification through thefederal E-Verify process. Those who are ineligible can verify their lawfulstatus, through appearing at the nearest Social Security office, to rectify anyproblem. Of course No Liberal associated newspaper pass this information, staying silent about any irregularities as they are determined to cripple anychance of this commonsense bill from becoming law.

Every American can do their part,to insure that ‘THE LEGAL WORKFORCE ACT’ (H.R.2885) and get to the floor of theHouse of Representatives. It’s the only way to get future satisfaction ofsaving the billions of dollars we give reluctantly, to illegal aliens.E-Verify--the bill would require 100% of businesses to begin using E-Verify forall new hires within 2 years and require all federal and state governments tocheck new hires and existing employees within 6 months. Although the officialfigures estimates there are only 11.5 million illegal aliens in the US, otherreputable organizations exceeds this number by at least another 10 million. Ofthese 8.5 foreign nations have claimed a job unlawfully, while 22 to 24 millioncitizens and legally here residents are unemployed. These are non-agriculturalnumbers and this could be reduced by the immediate vote of ‘The legal WorkforceAct.’

Unknown numbers of illegalfamilies began departing Arizona, Alabama, South Carolina, with theintroduction of harsh policing laws and headed for other states with moreflexible immigration laws—California and Nevada included.  Sanctuary States will be overwhelmed, with economicillegal aliens, looking for free money and other easy accessed welfarebenefits. Thousands of American workers are already replacing the illegalabsconders, as business have no option but to look elsewhere for labor. Thedays of cheap illegal labor is over and so are the big profits they have foryears.

There is no time to wait, asE-Verify must become mandatory, instead as it is now—voluntary. Hundreds ofthousands of businesses are now hooked up to the electronic program and can nowvet their workers. Businesses that are not using E-Verify needs to learn anexpensive lesson of harsh fines, company profit confiscation and prison forhiring unauthorized labor.

Citizens and legal residents mustchallenge the Republicans dominated House and insist on E-Verify. The ‘Ways andMeans Committee led by Majority Speak John Boehner (R-OH) must adopt the Mandatory E-Verify Bill (H.R. 2885.) and should be bombarded with insistentvoters. Reps. Chip Cravaack (R-Minn.), Tim Johnson (R-Ill.), Reps.Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.V.) and Joe Walsh (R-Ill.) have cosponsored HouseJudiciary Chairman Lamar Smith's Legal Workforce Act (H.R.2885), with newmembers to sponsor in the forthcoming wings.  Not sure what to do? Go toNumbersUSA web site, where you can freely fax politicians or you can also canlocate them through this phone number at 202-224-312; the Congressional Switchboard.

Asof last Friday, November 4, 2011 currently has 54 sponsors and 32 co-sponsors.

Our freedoms and liberty are under constant attack by theLiberals, Democrats and even hard core Republicans, so that’s why everybody isfed up with the usual trash from Washington; ‘The Quid Pro Quo’ should join themassive population of the growing TEA PARTY. We must anticipate that in the2011 Presidential race, the impending gubernatorial and state legislativeelections in Louisiana, Mississippi and West Virginia will be electing governors.. In addition, 578 state legislative seats are available, with themajority  of these in Louisiana,Mississippi, New Jersey and Virginia where the fate of politicians are in thehands of voters. ILLEGAL ALIENS HAVEBEEN VOTING AND WILL IN THE FUTURE. Democrats are looking the other way, asthis has been happening nationwide. We must be watchful of Congressman as KeithEllison, who could cripple our voting system. Ellison would weaken our nation’spolicies even more so, than the voting regulations are already so poorlyenforced.

The motivation behind these deceptive robocalls and voter suppression tactics is to win at any cost. Citizens need to see action on the part of Arizona-elected and Federal officials. What are they going to do about these voter suppression tactics? Will these deceptive robocalls and voter suppression tactics be allowed to continue without repurcussion? I think indictments are justified and way over due.

Agreed, but we all know full well that the so called AG & the MCAO will not lift a finger against their political freinds. They came out in support of RuSSell Pearce so they could claim a conflict of interest, that way they could avoid the wrath of their political base -The Tea Baggers. What they fail to realize is that AZ is becoming more diverse in it's political thinking.Come general election time they will find that the demographics of the AZ electorate has changed to where the Latino vote may well be the deciding factor. The results of the Nov.8th elections in Wisconsin,Ohio,AZ as well as many other states will have national implications for the 2012 elections.I think that having the endorsment of the Tea Bagger Party will prove to be the kiss of death for all these extreme rightwing nutjobs.

Lala, I hate to draw attention to my age, but I've been a Mesa voter in this same district (now LD 18) for over 4 decades, and to my recollection have never missed voting in an election -- be it city, state, county, school board, federal or whatever.  But never before in all those years have I felt the importance of my vote, my duty and heavy responsibility, as in this recall election.  And it's for all the reasons you express so well.  I hear you.

republicans have no choice really. have you seen ANY news reports on any of the local news outlets regarding the far left being a campaign arm of the Lewis camp? Other than Lewis denying the left has anything to do with his campaign, or saying it is a "bipartisan" effort

This is WI v2.0 Unions and progressive democrats engineered the recall, recruited Lewis, and are engineering, and funding,  his campaign

Union groups are paying an Open Borders, pro illegal group 20K to work for the Lewis campaign

No doubt about it, the smutty garbage posts by one or two individuals using about a dozen aliases have a purpose:  to distract attention from the serious issue at hand, which is providing misinformation in a deliberate attempt to deceive voters.

On Oct. 25, I received a weird robocall whose purpose was similar to that put out by Ludders' organization.  Although I'm not a Democrat, the call I received similarly lumped Lewis and Pearce as being of the same minds, two peas in a po and I believe was a subtle attempt to discourage recipients of the call from going to the polls and voting at all.....or perhaps either to write-in Micky Mouse as a "protest" or voting for non-candidate Olivia Cortez, which was the original intent of the schemers of her sham candidacy.

The robocall I received from an unidentified male,  made no mention of Olivia Cortez. As I recall it  also did not provide the date of the election.

The message was to inform me and emphasize that in the upcoming election, both Jerry Lewis and Russell Pearce are Republicans, that they are both pro-life, that they both support measures to protect life, etc. I was waiting for the punch line of the caller's message, but there wasn't any.  It was just to tell me how alike candidates Lewis and Pearce were, both Republicans, both pro-life (or whatever similar term was used and slightly expanded upon.)

The call ended with, "Arizona Deserves the Best paid for this call."

Constantin Querard, a so-called political consultant who prides himself on getting Russell Peare elected in the past, is listed as chairman of "Arizona Deserves the Best" -- an Independent Expendtures committee, whose revealing pre-recall income and expenditures report is on file with the Secretary of State's office.  Querard owns his own sign company, and the bulk of his expenditures went to himself.  Querard is also the individual widely believed to be the party responsible for cooking up the scheme for sham candidates to run against Pearce in order to siphon anti-Pearce votes from serious competitor Lewis.

I also received two anti-Lewis, pro-Pearce mailers from Querad's committee on Thursday and Friday.

I strongly believe that the robocall I received on Oct. 25 was an insidious attempt to discourage both Republicans and Democrats from voting at all in Tuesday's election.  Why bother if they both believe as I believe, or DON'T believe as I believe, in which case non-candidate Olivia Cortes would be good for a protest vote -- fulfilling the devious purpose of her candidacy in the first place.

Pearce and Lewis are as different as night and day.  Lewis is up-front, honest and above board, a good communicator.   Pearce is not.  Lewis is a person of integrity.  Pearce is a person of skullduggery. Lewis is a "people" person, considerate of others.  Pearce is a "power" person, considerate of only himself.  Lewis is a conscientious listener.  Pearce "listens" only to himself and has all the characteristics of a tyrant, not a representative.

VOTE LEWIS.

Try again doofus.
