Jan Brewer DENIED: IRC Chair Colleen Mathis Reinstated

janbrewer555.jpg
A scorpion has a higher IQ than this woman...

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer's incompetent overreach of power in removing the Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission's chairwoman Colleen Mathis -- one aided and abetted by former state Senate President Russell Pearce's "Tea Party Senate" -- has been overturned by the Arizona Supreme Court, which today reinstated Mathis as chair.

You'll recall that on November 1, in a putrid act of political skullduggery, Brewer called a special session of the Arizona Legislature (done while Brewer was out-of-state pimping her pathetic ghostwritten memoir Scorpions for Breakfast -- currently ranked a lame #11,656 on Amazon.com) to boot Mathis for fictitious allegations of "gross misconduct" and "neglect of duty."

This foolhardy move was pulled without a timely notice to the public or the press, a near-dictatorial act, one Brewer had no grounds for.

Indeed, in a subsequent radio interview with Alan Colmes, our mentally-challenged chief executive couldn't even explain what it was that Mathis had done that was supposedly inappropriate:

COLMES:What did Colleen do that was inappropriate, Colleen Mathis?

BREWER:Well she acted, uh, inappropriately. Well it was very, pretty much obvious that she in communications, and doing things, uh, not in the public, and the people of Arizona deserve that...

COLMES: You mean she was doing things secretly? Like what?

BREWER: They just simply need to operate in a lawful and open fashion...

COLMES: I'm trying to understand what she did. What are you accusing her of having done?

BREWER: Well, she wasn't operating in the proper manner.

Now it's the Supremes who've made a call on who wasn't operating in the "proper manner." After oral arguments today, the Supremes issued the following order:

Having considered the filings in this matter by the petitioner, the intervenor, the respondents, and the amici curiae, and the arguments of counsel,

1. The Court accepts jurisdiction of the petition for special action, having concluded that it has jurisdiction under Article 6, Section 5(1) of the Arizona Constitution;

2. The Court concludes that the issues presented in this matter are not political questions and are therefore justiciable. See Brewer v. Burns

3. The Court concludes that the letter of November 1, 2011, from the Acting Governor to the intervenor Colleen Mathis does not demonstrate "substantial neglect of duty, gross misconduct in office, or inability to discharge the duties of office" by the intervenor Mathis, as required under Article 4, Part 2, Section 1(10) of the Arizona Constitution;

Therefore, the Court grants the relief requested by the intervenor Mathis and orders that she be reinstated as chair of the Independent Redistricting Commission.

The Court in due course will issue an opinion more fully detailing its reasoning in this matter.

Translation for someone as monosyllabic as Brewer: IN YOUR FACE!

Too bad we lack a realistic remedy for removing this gubernatorial boob from power. She's an embarrassment to the state, to democracy and to the office she holds.

Moreover, she's a wimp, with no stomach for press conferences. She's such a freaking moron that her handlers dare never allow her to have regular press events, knowing that she only has two feet and they are both surgically connected to her lizard-like tongue.

Brewer may still pull shenanigans, despite the court's order. So stay tuned. And for all the gnarly details on the AIRC drama, as always, check out Steve Muratore's Arizona Eagletarian blog, which tans the MSM's britches when it comes to reportage on the commission.

Jan Brewer did the right thing.  This Strategic Telemetry is a liberal progressive tool that does not have the concerns of Arizonans.  Splitting Yuma, splitting Lakeside-Pinetop, placing Fountain Hills with Havasu City?  Who stands to gain from this gerrymandering?  Regardless of your political affiliation, this committee has a leader with strong democratic ties and should never have been appointed chairwoman due to her conflict of interest.

We really can't blame Brewer for being a dumb-ass.  She is what she has always been.  I blame the people that voted for her.

These elected officials are ignorant of the U.S. Constitution. Where did they get their education?

Vote a straight Democratic ticket next November.  Show Jan Brewer and the rest of the new right how you feel about them.

THEY ARE PLAYING THE SHELL GAME!   WHILE WE ARE ALL PAYING ATTENTION TO THIS, HERE IS WHAT IS GOING ON OUTSIDE THE SPOTLIGHT!  DEMS AND INDS AND MODERATE REPUBS TAKE HEED!

The radical right is trying to REPEAL Prop 106!!!  Don't let them!  Be involved!!http://sonoranalliance.com/201...

They want to "redesign" the recall process so that what happened to Rusty Nail can't happen to any other Tea Bagger:

http://sonoranalliance.com/201...

We cannot sit by and let this kind of power-grab take place!  They are only trying to distract us by the 'current' event so that we are not paying any attention to what they are doing to "fix" the long term problem of Dems and Inds taking power from the Repubs.

This is the Tea Party in action, ladies and gentlemen.  We need to fight back!

David, is there a specific strain that can reverse the effects of alcoholism on the brain and liver?  I don't know David spending the money for a good stavia for Brewer would be like a high class hooker setting up shop in a cheap saloon.

it's time sheriff joe be held accountable for the egregious actions of his jail personal & deputy's its a shame that the state attorney general or county prosecutor or other state police agency's have not brought charges against the MCSO. It's not right to look away to the atrocities he has perpetuated on inmates just because they happened to be of a different skin color. If he can get away with this today tomorrow he will come after you for being of a different political persuasion.

My first thought was, I bet she wishes Thomas had made AG so she could just have them all sued under RICO.

My second thought was, I think I'm giving her entirely too much credit.  I picture her thought processes looking a lot like the cutaways of Homer's brain on old Simpsons.

I blame this on Randy Parraz.  He tells people that the voters don't need a reason to recall a politician.  He should have known that small minds like Brewer would  think this means that a politician doesn't need a reason to subvert the will of the voters.

I certainly agree with most of the recent comments here about Brewer, but to her credit -- probably a recommendation by an astute staff member -- she recently assigned (requested) MCA Bill Montgomery to investigate/advise changes for, etc. the system in place for Child Protective Services due to the horrific record in our state of child abuse and child deaths.  From all reports, and to HIS credit,  Montgomery has taken the ball and is running with it.

I read in today's Arizona republic that GED Jan will attempt, for a second time, to fire Colleen Mathis from her job on the AIRC, despite the state Supreme Court telling her that she cannot do so.

I congratulate Thomas Zlaket for standing up to our braindead governor and her mentally sick Senate cohorts and getting Mathis reinstated.

Now, if we can get the maps done and approved by the DOJ...

Your right since she is the puppet gov anyway but in that case she needs to donatethose paychecks that she still took while not in the state.  Can't get paid if you don'tclock in Jan!!

Elsewhere, I read the governor's statement on the ruling by the AZ Sup Court.  I think it is OK and appropriate for the Governor to disagree with the ruling, but she went on to blast the judges and I felt that was inappropriate for a Chief Executive to do that.  If the Governor shows contempt and disrespect for our states highest court, why should we respect the court?  It is the final say on a state issue.  If you disagree, fine.  But, deal with it and don't attack the court.  If you feel strongly about it, find another way to legally achieve your goals.  I guess Jan will have to ask her brains how she feels about it.

At this point I'd vote a monkey into office, as long as that monkey represented the best interests of the State of Arizona, wasn't as old as the dinosaurs, and wasn't completely and utterly corrupt.

A good idea would be to take Governor shit for brains to court and ask a judge to order the upholding of the Voter Protection Act.

The Legislature (that would include the Senate) CANNOT meddle in voter-approved initiatives (that would be Prop.106). So, what that means is that even if GED Jan wanted to terminate Ms. Mathis, she cannot secure the votes, meaning that the AIRC is free to do its job.

While I know and appreciate your wit, I will disagree. In fact, she learned very well from the Flaccid Fool, Hendershott, Pearce and Andy that misapplication of law is only important when one gets caught. She is only doing what she's been trained to do. She is a very good robot, chiseled features and all. Now she is in concert with the likes of Lori Klein, Kavanaugh, Ben Who and others of that ilk.

Rex,

If you wish to talk about GED Jan, I would suggest that you take the "loves sex" part of your nickname off for the post.  Some things just don't belong on the same page.

Of course she is...she spent good money buying little Benny a congressional seat. If he actually has to run in an competitive district and loses, he'll go back to wasting what's left of his trust fund and spending all his time drinking and whoring in the downtown Scottsdale bars. Mommy Dearest Marilyn can't have her precious baby Benny ruining the Quayle family's good name by knocking up some fugly cougar or barely legal Snottsdale slut. Whatever would she and Danny tell their friends at the country club?

All kidding aside...ok not really...Ben Quayle is the biggest argument there is for competitive redistricting. Quayle is an absolute joke, the most useless congressman this sorry state ever had. His staff is rude and unprofessional and never replies to calls or emails. In person, he comes across as a spoiled, slimy, pathetic little rat who acts like he wants to hide behind mommy's skirts whenever he has to go off script in public. I live in Quayle's district, and I am ashamed that my fellow residents were stupid enough to elect him. PLEASE, DO NOT REELECT QUAYLE!!!!!!

Oh, and as for Boozer and her failed redistricting coup....EAT IT YOU STUPID BITCH!!!!!

This woman attacks ANYTHING she doesn't understand or disagrees with...which makes her petty and unable to run a state. She is incapable of higher level thought. An embarrassment is an understatement.

I agree with the sentiment about the "faithful" at Sonoran Alliance.  However, I don't get the impression that these actions (attempting to repeal 106 and change the recall process) are just the fantasy ramblings of your "other personality" (LOL) and CA and SW. The are actions that our Republican politicians are actually trying to push through.

Jason

That's a statement worth repeating!!

A better thing to do would be to get the DOJ involved ASAP, and slap her silly so the entire nation sees, yet again, what a vindictive, evil woman she is. If they did it in Texas, they can do it here!

Tina

So Ross, what do you suggest?  Maintain the status quo?  I don't think Montgomery would have held those recent press conferences and had a few interviews,  with HIS proposals for changing the system to reduce child abuse,  if he were only wanting to rid himself of responsibility by only passing it on to a "committee" to come up with solution.

Coz

Meant to say Montgomery...but Honre is still a worthless chump too.

We agree on Quayle...I just saw him at Horizon HS a couple weeks ago.He is useless...and hasn't the slightest idea what he's talking about. His staff IS rude...I literally have had arguments with them on the phone...THAT THEY STARTED! Someone forgot that HE works for ME, not the other way around!I am inclined to agree with your theory about buying his seat....there IS no other reason he should be there....hopefully, if people are at all paying attention, he'll be gone...though not nearly soon enough.

Flower, I think Mrs. Brewer is incapable of 'individual' thought. She is simply a tool being used by the Republican machine to try to control us and keep us from having our own thoughts and expressions. Imagine having our state leader not even being able to articulate the actual reasons for having dismissed the chairwoman. I sometimes wonder if our governor has the ability to pour her own breakfast cereal...

I agree. The DOJ needs to help us against GED Jan and her mentally sick GOP Senate idiots. This is EXACTLY why they require preclearance.

The DOJ needs to speed up those GJ proceedings of the MCSO shurf and Hendy, as well as Candy Andy Thomas. I want to see indictments on those clowns by Christmas. It's been 3 years!

Jason
Jason

You should have...Quayle more than likely would have needed Gosar's help spelling it. Hard to believe Quayle is a lawyer at Snell & Wilmer (think GED Jan's law firm in the fight to keep SB1070.)

I completely agree with you about voting the hateful, bigoted clueless idiots out. That's what the Pearce recall and ouster was about. Pearce's bigotry, hate, and complete cluelessness led to his demise from Arizona politics.

desertflower1

Of course:) I wanted to ask him so badly to spell "potato" at the town hall meeting I went to....hopefully, he will be outta here next year. Never to return again.Franks is a hateful, bigoted, clueless idiot. Another one to send packing. The people in his district better get a clue!Vote him OUT!Thanks for the update, Jason...hadn't heard that.

The only reason Quayle even won is through his daddy, former U.S. VP Dan Quayle.

If Quayle didn't have that name recognition, he would've lost his election in a landslide.

BTW, did anyone read that Trent Franks is trying to bar the Tohono O'odham Nation from building their casino, despite the Interior Department ruling they could, and about 12 state and federal court decisions, all in favor of the Tohono O'odham Nation?

Reggie VV

You are absolutely correct.  She is obviously incapable of independent thought without a written script from Coughlin and ALEC. It is absolutely embarassing to our State.  Yet there will always be those to defend her, and those who claim if you criticize her incompetence, you  must be for open borders.  "We don't need no stinkin' facts or logic, we is Republicans!"
