Russell Pearce in Trouble with LDS Church, Brahm Resnik Scores

Kudos to Channel 12's Brahm Resnik for this story about state Senate President Russell Pearce landing in scalding H2O with his own Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

I was at the same recent Republican Legislative District 18 meeting, and when I learned about the footage of it available online (Pearce had banned cameras from the event), I wanted to do the same story, but Resnik beat me to it. Bully for him.

I'm sure many of you have seen it already, but I post it here as a public service. I was heartened to see the brilliant, local LDS leader Daryl Williams interviewed for the piece. Williams is a stalwart enemy of nativism, and I've written about his pro-immigration lectures in the past.

At a time when the LDS church is spending millions on TV ads presenting its faith as open and diverse, Pearce is a serious embarrassment. Pearce's enforcement-only views on immigration are in direct contradiction with the Mormon church's June statement on the issue

Worse, still, Pearce is a serial prevaricator, while LDS followers are admonished to be honest in their dealings with their fellow men. About a year ago, I wrote a blog post pointing out that, at least according to the teachings of the LDS church, Pearce is a bad Mormon

He's also a bad Republican, a bad Arizonan, a bad American, a bad (though practiced) liar, and overall a bad human being. Hopefully, LD 18 voters are beginning to get the message.

If one of the Mormon commandments is to "Love Thy Neighbor", then why is it that they exclude "non-Mormons" from their church?

I see the Republic finally got around to publishing an online review of the Friday night rally where only 300 people, most of them from outside LD18, showed up at the Hohokam Stadium that seats 13,000.

Even the presence of Tom Tancredo and Joe Arpaio didn't jack up the attendance to a level higher than a junior high school football game.  (State senator Frank Antenori also showed up to defend Pearce.  At least this guy has friends whose names end in vowels.)

I don't think the church will oppose Pearce...having one of their members in such a powerful position in state government only helps them.  That's too much for them to pass up.

I really REALLY hope I'm wrong...but I'm think Mesa voters are too stupid to vote Pearce out.

It's great to see Brahm's video here where it won't get lost in the shuffle.  It is a great public service. Kudos to both of you.

Let us resolve this issue once and for all by doing what is right.Should immigrants who chose to go through the normal immigration process and those who cross the border illegally be treated the same? How is that fair and just to one and all?

I had the honor and pleasure of hearing Daryl Williams speak today as part of a panel presentation at the Arizona Employers for Immigration Reform conference in Tucson. Suffice to say, Mr. Williams is not lacking in charisma.

I enjoyed listening to his thoughts about the perspective of the Mormon Church regarding immigration. Mr. Williams clearly does not think that pearce is in lockstep with the Mormon philosophy of immigration.

I'm not a religious man, but if I were, I would definitely have to give the Mormon Church a careful look.

Two other panelists, Rancher Reese Woodling and Julie Erfle, both spoke from the heart about their experiences due to the myths about immigration perpetrated by the likes of the Arizona Republican party and the informal party of misfits and dunderheads who call themselves Tea Baggers.

The next conference will be in Yuma on November 12th. I highly recommend attendance.

From what I am seeing of too many Republican politicians, I am beginning to think that Pearce is a "Good Republican, a bad Arizonan, a bad liar and overall bad human being".  Many Republican politicians will tell any lie to keep political power.  Their approach to truth is more in line with Pravda and less with Jesus.

I was at the same meeting and stood up to call Pearce out on his calling the organizers of the recall "thugs" and "cartel members".  When I mentioned that I was a member of the LDS Church, Pearce's sycophants in the crowd shouted me down with cries of "keep the Church out of it!"  Pearce uses the Church for cover when it is convenient, but clearly doesn't live its teachings.  He is not honest in his dealings with his fellow man - I have seen that time and time again during this campaign.  His legislation "only contains enforcement provisions", which by the Church's definition "falls short of the high moral standard in how we treat each other as children of God."

Russell Pearce does NOT represent the LDS Church, nor the views of the majority of our people.  Please don't judge the Church by Pearce's poor example.

ninelives.cassiecharityheart
ninelives.cassiecharityheart

Pearce supporters say "keep the church out of this" but considering Jerry Lewis was a Mormon Bishop and Stake President, as well as seminary teacher, that's pretty much impossible.  Besides, it was Pearce himself who tried to play the, "Mormon Church is behind me" card.  What I find incredible is that so many self professed "good" Mormons are behind or support the current shameful attacks against Jerry Lewis. As a fellow Mormon, I never would have thought in a million years that other Mormons would attack a man of his caliber and standing in the church.  This is a sad moment in our churches history and I believe it is leaving a huge scar not only on our public image but on the goodwill among fellow members.  Jerry Lewis should be commended for doing his best to rise above this and Russell Pearce should be ashamed to his grave for standing behind such sleazy antics.

"LDS followers are admonished to be honest in their dealings with their fellow men."

If that's the case, then given what we know about Fulton Brock and his family's notorious scandals, he should be in the doghouse with Mormon leadership, too.

The LDS leadership needs to seriously consider excommunicating the Pearce brothers and the entire Brock family, unless they want the reputation of their entire church soiled by the actions of these two corrupt-to-the-bone families.

Lewis will win
Lewis will win

Should be any minute when (PdaLewis) aka (Lester Pearce) come on here and spew the same garbage about recall leader Parraz since it's hard for him to say anything negative about Lewis.

PDAlewis doesn't realize the election is between Pearce and Lewis, not Pearce and Parraz.

PDALewis is fine that Pearce has beat both of his wives, has posed willingly with Neo Nazi leader J T Redding, has accepted 40,000 in tickets and trips from the Fiesta Bowl and then promised to produce checks that he paid for it, yet never did, was FIRED from the DMV for altering a friends DUI convictio and that spending increased 60 percent while he was appropriations chairman.

My Neighbors, a nice Hispanic family, tell me that they used to be members of the LDS Church and left about 18 months ago.  Though still very spiritual, they say the teaching of the church are clearly not in line with what Pearce represents himself to be .. as Pearce claimed then that he was supported by the church.  They knew the difference, but the reason they left was because 18 months ago they didn't see the Church take a more public position on this.

Don't brag too much about Russell.  It is an effortless action on his part.  It just comes naturally.

Of course not.  The answer is easy.  Illegal is illegal - doesn't matter what country it is.  Why do we Arizonans, as taxpayers, have to pay for our healthcare, while illegals have access to free healthcare, reduced meal programs at schools, and now Lewis wants us to help pay college tuition???  This is whacked.  I happen to know many people from Serbia who have gone through the immigration process, and live and work here legally.  I commend anyone who has a genuine desire to re-locate from a disadvantaged situation/country, and does it the legal way.

BAFP

There is no line, Dumoudan.   You either come here illegally or you don't come at all.  A source of frustration for those of us who want to employ mexican's here legally.  I love it when people say, "they need to get in line"  ... they usually have no idea that there isn't a line ...  and those that do, are tools.

This is a complicated issue that needs to have each separate issue looked at separately instead of the current one size fits all enforcement only approach.  I know a couple of great young women who go to my church.  They have lived in Mesa all their lives and are friends of my children. They are as American as you or I.  This is the country they love and pledge their allegiance to.  But because they came as young babies, every day they live  in fear that they could be deported and sent back to a country they don't even know and have no connection to.  These wonderful young women want to be legal, to work, to pay their taxes and be a productive part of our society.  One wants to be a teacher and give back to the community that gave her so much.  But she can't.  We need to have a legal way for these people to square themselves with the law so their great talents can be utilized in our society.  Right now they just live in limbo like a person without a country.  Until our country is willing to give them a legal way out of this mess, things will not get better and we risk losing some of our greatest assets.

Let's resolve this issue once and for all by doing what is right.  Should people in Mexico who have no chance of coming to this country because they weren't born in Cuba, just give up when there are jobs here that Americans don't want?  Or should American parents take their children out of school after sixth grade so that we will have a domestic supply of hamburger flippers and hotel housekeepers?

Let's judge the church by the election results.  They may keep Pearce in office by a margin less than the votes cast for Mormon Olivia Cortes, placed on the ballot by Mormons behaving badly.  That, in turn, may inspire a lawsuit from Tom Ryan, a fine Catholic from Chandler whose religion should be judged by its protection of pedophile priests.

Pearce is nothing more than a symptom of the disease of religious intolerance.     Last week the Republic, in an article on the entire Pearce debacle, said that, in LD18, only 40+yr old Caucasian,, conservative MORMON males are electable. This election seems to be proof of the MORmON's intolerance of anyone outside of their mythological system.. Pardon me if I don't hold my breath waiting for anything to change.

Trent Franks is worth a million words but is essentially a non-entity whether the Republican'ts  are in the majority or not.  And the legislature is a continuing disaster. Cuts to education, transfer of tons of responsibilities to local governments while taking revenue away, gimmick budgeting, but never ending increases for private prisons. This is the legacy of the "fiscal" conservative one party dictatorship. Then the cold stone treasurer says the legislature did a great job of balancing the budget without gimmicks. What a liar. He is worth new words too.

So what you are saying is two wrongs make a right here? I'm not sure what you are getting at. The Mormon CHurch is a fine institution and I myself respect that but am not Mormon. I feel ashamed that this man RP is soiling the church and well in the best interest of all parties involved, both reputation and moral integrity must prevail in the chooses the elders make on this. If they truely believe in what they teach there is no way they can alow RP to stay in good graces from my limited exposure to the teachings of the book of Mormon.

Step 1; create an environment of hate and fear by vlaming the failures of leadership on a monorty. Step 2; diustract the public with non-fatual evidence and false # to promote your cause. Step3; Bring lagitamicy to our actions by involving shaky and unethical people in power to trump up questional charges in the public eye with no real substance but creat an air of impropriety.  I'm sitting here listening to Hendershott's testimony, watching the video, watching his beady eyes shift, folding hands and nervous thumb tapping.  You don't think he knows his butt is in the wind?  As their foundations crumble these people and their co-horts have to be just as nervous, no doubt, they have already put the noose around their own necks.    "Execution" of that aforementioned scenario should knock a couple of the subjects off your list (I hope!)... not that I disagree with you Annie.

Absolutely Justice, couldn't agree more.  However that is why I put her last on the list. To begin with one of the highlights of the Pearce situation is..the Governor had NO CHOICE but to schedule a recall election for one her staunch allies, I would very much like to see forced scenario repeated a number of times.  And the whole immigration/private prison debacle are NOT separate events.  So along that train of thought sir I believe that watching that entire base (every name mentioned is involved in one or the other or both) disappear right before their eyes might have a profound shaking affect, an erosion of confidence as it where.  And the way NT is approaching the situation is off the hook!  EVERY swinging Richard out there involved in the slightest way has had their name published... and always with the distinction of naming them as good or bad along with an accounting of their role.

Dear God that is scary. We need to make sure the Church votes Lewis on 11/8. Lewis, too, is LDS and actually applies what the Church teaches to his everyday life. Pearce, on the other hand, is sleazy, sneaky, and slimy. Pearce needs to be booted out. The Mormon Church would be a powerful ally for Lewis.

Pearce is a politician. He is trained to lie. That's all he does.

Pearce using the LDS Church for political gain is the sleaziest thing he has ever done. He was sleazy enough when he was exposed as the culprit behind the Corts "campaign," but this takes the cake. The U.S. Constitution, something Pearce CLEARLY does not care about and obviously knows NOTHING about, prohibits the separation of church and state.
