Russell Pearce's Pal Franklin Bruce Ross, Logan Pearce, and Others Sign for Wannabe Pearce Foe Olivia Cortes

Ross is suing to stop the recall on Pearce's behalf, and helping Cortes at the same time

Franklin Bruce Ross, the man who is listed as the plaintiff in the lawsuit challenging the recall petitions submitted by Citizens for a Better Arizona, a man his attorney Lisa Hauser has described as a longtime pal of state Senate President Russell Pearce, solicited signatures to put the name of wannabe Pearce challenger Olivia Cortes on the November 8 recall ballot.

I scored copies of the Cortes petition from the Arizona Secretary of State's Office and am still reviewing it.

Ross signed the back of one petition sheet, declaring the signatures he obtained to be valid. One of the few signatures he got was his own.

Ironically, that oath he signed uses wording that would not be sufficient under Hauser's interpretation of the Arizona Constitution.

She argues in her brief to the Arizona Supreme Court that the circulators must swear that each signature is "genuine." Instead, the oath on the reverse of the Cortes petition sheets states that "each of the names on the petition was signed in my presence."

Meaning that these petition sheets would be invalid under Hauser's assessment of the law.

I called Hauser about this latest bit of recall weirdness. If she responds, I'll update this post.

Going through the petition sheets that East Valley Tea Party chairman Greg Western filed Friday with the Arizona Secretary of State, there are some other notable signers of Cortes' petition, including a Logan Pearce and an Andrea Pearce, who live at the same address.

A "Logan Pearce" endorsed Russell Pearce for state Senate in 2008.

I'm told by sources in Mesa that Logan Pearce is Russell's nephew, but I have not been able to confirm this with Logan himself. I left a message with him on his voice mail, but have yet to receive a return call.

Western signed the petition, of course. So did hardcore Pearce supporter Ron Middlebrook, who ran unsuccessfully in 2008 for the state House. Middlebrook endorsed Pearce in 2008 as well.

Numerous other known Pearce supporters either signed or circulated the Cortes petitions. Too many for me to detail at length here. Interestingly, Cortes circulated some petition sheets as well. And she signed one of them. So at least we know she exists.

Why do all of these Pearce enthusiasts want Cortes' name on the ballot? Could it be that they've had a change of heart, and now want Pearce to lose in the recall election?

Or do they hope that Cortes' candidacy will "dilute" the vote, as one circulator told me at the Mesa library last week?

The answers to these questions are tellingly obvious.

For those who haven't heard the good news,

The Az Supreme court told Pearce he can put his challenge where the sun don't shine.

Pearce, Cortes, Ross = epitome of dirty politics and corruption in Arizona.

Check out the calendar of the East Valley Tea Party, chaired by Greg Western:  http://evtpp.com/  I wonder how many signatures they got that day for Olivia Cortes?  It would be interesting to compare the signatures and dates to see how many of these good, decent Tea Party patriots signed up that day or otherwise. Here it is (sorry about the font color):9/6/11-  SPECIAL GUEST- RUSSELL PEARCE       Come see and hear our very special guest this Tuesday Senate President Russell Pearce. The Senator will be at the East Valley Tea Party to talk about the recall.  Bring as many people as you can to show our support for Senator Pearce during this recall election.  Senator Pearce will take the floor at 6:50 so don’t be late.

"The last time we trusted someone named Cortes(z)......"

If the height of irony identified by Lemons is the lack of "genuine" on the petitions turned in by Ross, here's one that'll even top that. The selection of Olivia Cortés as the candidate to run (I'm guessing to get the Mexican American vote in LD18) is extremely ironic if one considers Mexican history. Hernán Cortez, the Spaniard who first came to the shore of what is now Mexico, burned the the well loved and admired Aztec leader Moctezuma alive when he wouldn't turn over all the Aztec gold. Moctezuma poetically was purported to have said, "No estoy en un lecho de rosas/I'm not in a bed of roses." Cortez also summoned the Aztec warriors to Tenochtitlan for what was to be a huge meeting, and then slaughtered them all. This is known as La Noche Triste/The Sad Night. He took as one of his concubines Malinche, a multilingual Indian young girl known historically as 'the traitor.'The real height of irony is that the candidate selected/recruited/represented/helped by Western holds the name of Cortes(z). This would akin to selecting someone named Hitler to sway the Jewish vote. Perhaps the Tea Party folks need to brush up on their history as they select candidates to sway the Hispanic vote away from Lewis to keep Uncle Russell in office.

Will Sonoran News or Sonoran Alliance now write a story about these petitions all being signed by rednecks and racists?

Franklin Bruce Ross and Logan Pearce should do themselves a favor and stop supporting Pearce shill Cortes. Cortes and Pearce will lose the race for LD18 Senator anyways.

Jerry Lewis will win. And I will do a happy little dance when he does.

They wouldn't be there if the voters in Az. weren't so damn DUMB.

So, you're saying that Cortez was the first republican?

This would make sense if Mexicans were not just as proud of their Spanish heritage as their Indian heritage.  In fact, lighter shades of skin and hair are favored among many Mexican families, on both sides of the border.

I assume Linda Bentley will be combing the petitions for signs of massive voter fraud. Especially since this Cortes woman has a hispanic name and so she is "probably an illegal".

Who said they support Cortes?  They don't support her in the slightest, only the effort to get her hispanic name on the ballot.  BTW am I the only one who feels like the whole idea of putting a random hispanic candidate on the ballot to draw unsuspecting hispanic voters is a tad bit patronistic and demeaning it its premise, (i.e., that these hispanics are stupid sheep who will don't have a clue what is going on)? With any luck, this mother of all dirty tricks ideas will backfire on Pearce badly and the decent citizens in the district will be morally repelled by the utter lack of honesty, integrity and ethics of the Pearce camp.  This Cortes idea is turning out so badly that even Howard Fischer can be seen in the news videos hounding Western about the stalking horse scam. I predict that within the week Pearce and his shill Ed Phillips (the blandest weatherman in the history of Arizona's bland TV weathermen) will announce that they are shocked by these actions and denounce Western, et al.

LOL, they're playing the anti-semitic card too....truely disgusting!!!

Exactly, why is the SA screaming about all the "illegals" signatures on Cortes' petition?

Could it be they know what's really going on, dirty politics and fraud, and the rule of law folks at the SA are okay with that, how?

Why aren't they screaming foul???

They only like Cortes because she's helping Pearce retain his seat, a seat that rightly belongs to Jerry Lewis.

Pearce and Cortes should do us a favor and concede to Lewis. When that happens, or when Lewis kicks both Pearce and Cortes' sorry asses,  I will do my happy little dance.

The only "stupid sheep who don't have a clue what's going on" are the Pearce supporters.

As for there being "decent citizens" in Pearce's district------They elected Pearce in the first place, knowing full well about his "Priorities".

Pearce is too arrogant ever to back away.  No denouncements.  Only more dirty tricks, lies and corruption.
