Lewis, ahead of time, with double the sigs

Though he has until September 9 to do so, Mesa Republican Jerry Lewis will file signatures with the Arizona Secretary of State tomorrow to place his name on the November 8 recall ballot in Legislative District 18.

To formally square off against state Senate President Russell Pearce, Lewis needs 621 qualified electors from LD 18 to sign his nominating petition.

According to a statement just released by the Lewis campaign, he'll turn in double that number Thursday morning.

The statement reads,

"The Jerry Lewis for Senate Campaign will file twice the number of signatures needed to put the Mesa Republican on the ballot for the November 8th recall election challenging Senate President Russell Pearce. The filing will take place at the Arizona Secretary of State's office on the 7th Floor of the executive tower at the State Capital at 9:00 a.m., tomorrow, Thursday, August 18th. Most of the signatures were collected in one day as Lewis and a large group of volunteers canvassed their neighborhoods. Additional petitions are still being circulated and will be added to the total in a subsequent filing.

"Lewis is a CPA and charter school administrator and former teacher. He is well known in Mesa as a community volunteer and L.D.S. Church leader. He is the first challenger to earn a spot on the ballot. Lewis will be available to the press following the filing."

Tonight, Pearce will be feted by his lobbyist pals during a fundraiser at Alexi's Grill in Phoenix. Pearce is being treated like a king by his natural constituency. Quite a contrast to Lewis' hard work and gumption.

UPDATE 8/18/11: Lewis' name is now on the ballot. Take a look, here.

Oh, here's a guy that's really sincere. Afterall, he's got a Jesus portrait behind him. Kind of like the scam that was going on twenty or so years ago, with electriciians, plumbers, bricklayers, etc. where they'd have a metallic fish on the side of their truck, etc. to show that their a Christian or honest, etc. God, does the phony crap ever end?

Jerry Lewis is good man running to unseat a man who practices corrupt, bully politics. The citizen of LD 18 have the opportunity to bring positive change to Arizona politics because one republican and one democrat worked together to organize people to work together for change. I love this! I hope this revolutionary concept keeps spreading nationwide.

After filing the petitions, he will follow in the footsteps of the black guy painted white in the portrait behind him, and turn water into wine.

On second thought, maybe his religion won't allow that.

Wonderful news!  Yet another step closer to replacing Russell Pearce.  Slowly but surely does it ........

Arizona needs to be saved from Pearce and his racist, bigoted enablers who have created laws to line their pockets.

Now now, Russell.  Don't go away mad, just go away.

So he shows up and files his petitions and says SB 1070 was "a good start," and he's not sure how he would have voted on it.

LD18 always gets what it deserves.

Tommy, I appreciate your post because it reflects my own sentiments so well.  I had the privilege of spending about two hours with Jerry Lewis in a group gathering a few days ago, and he is just as you say:  very thoughtful, genuine, caring, fully understanding of himself, honest, receptive, not at all rash, and with a philosophy of life we could all emulate.   I am convinced he will be a great asset in the state senate because he seems to have that enviable quality of being able to bridge differences between others.  An intelligent  listener and a peacemaker.

Ross, since Mr. Lewis is not an experienced politician he actually gave thoughtful answers, instead of blatant lies as pearce does.

I don't agree with Mr. Lewis that SB-1070 is a "good start". It's a completely unnecessary law the pearce pushed to favor the Flaccid Fool of MCSO. Nothing less.

Of course Mr. Lewis isn't sure of how he might have voted. He wasn't in that position. Again, at least he is being honest. Refreshing honest.

I would definitely be voting for Mr. Lewis, if I could.
