John McCain's Bigotry Earns Hashtag, Near-Universal Ridicule, Help from Bigot-Boy Sheriff

No hash pipe for McCain, but his stupidity has scored him his own hashtag

Guess I've heard the last from U.S. Senator John McCain's haughty, over-paid flack Brooke Buchanan.

Yesterday, in the midst of a PR meltdown that's turned McCain (once again) into a political laughingstock, his office issued a statement claiming that an unnamed U.S. Forest Service official had given the Senator info prompting the Arizona alter kocker to blame the state's current plague of forest fires on Mexican migrants.

McCain got fellow Senator Jon Kyl and Arizona Congressmen Jeff Flake and Paul Gosar to sign off on the statement, though federal officials have publicly insisted that there is zero evidence to back up McCain's racist claim.

Since I'd been sparring via e-mail with Buchanan over McCain's outrageously idiotic comments, I shot her a new query, headed "before you head out to WalMart." This refers to a recent Politico report that Buchanan is trading her DC job and her 129K-a-year government salary for presumably more money fronting for cheap-goods monolith WalMart.

This is what I wrote Buchanan:

"I'd like to know the name of the mysterious Forest Service official McCain refers to in his recent statement, the one who supposedly told him that immigrants cause wildfires.

"I'm all ears, Brooke. Because I'll bet you a plate of barbecue in Arkansas (assume you'll be there soon) that he or she does not exist and your current boss is not just a bigot, but a seasoned prevaricator."

By this a.m. she had not responded, so I e-mailed another one:

"Brooke, haven't received a response from you on this question. If I do not receive one from you in the next couple of hours, I can only conclude that the Senator is a liar."

That one must've ticked her off all the more, so she decided to pull a Cartman, pick up her ball and go home.

"Steve, clearly your journalistic integrity is nonexistent and this exchange is over," she replied.

For someone who shills for a bigot, and is off to shill for company notorious for selling goods produced by seriously underpaid workers overseas, she's one to talk.

Cochise County's Mexican-bashing Sheriff Larry Dever backed up McCain's Mexicans-cause- wildfires claim yesterday, saying it's a "90 to 100 percent" likelihood that illegal immigrants or smugglers caused the Monument Fire, part of which overlaps the border.

Proof? Dever admits he has none. Just pure speculation. The feds have confirmed the fire was man-made, but will only say it's under investigation.

Dever's such a great lawman that he's never caught the killer of Arizona rancher Rob Krentz, though he's laid that one on illegal border crossers as well. (More speculation, though one dead man, regrettable as it is, does not a crime wave make.) Makes you wonder if Dever blames every crime he can't solve on illegal aliens. Mighty convenient those Mexicans are.

Dever along with Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu have a non-profit they pimp for called BorderSheriffs.com. This, though Pinal County is not on the U.S.-Mexico border.

The site regularly sends out e-mail screeds bashing illegal immigrants and blaming them for an increase in crime, even though FBI stats show that violent crime is down all across Arizona. But never let facts get in the way of raising dough. After all, what does the FBI know about crime?

Finally, McCain's ludicrous scapegoating of Latinos as firebugs responsible for Arizona's infernos has made both the Senator, and by extension Arizona, into the butt of a worldwide joke. Just Google "McCain" and "fire," and you can see for yourself the national and international condemnation of McCain's baloney and how many people find his statements risible.

Most amusing is the Twitter hashtag #mccainblamesmexicansfor, in which Tweeters skewer McCain by having him blame everything from "tornadoes, lightning strikes and traffic jams" to the 1929 Stock Market crash on them dang Messcans..

Some of the best of these include:

"John McCain blames Mexicans for the well manicured lawns at his seven mansions."

"...for Facebook's confusing privacy settings"

"...for stealing Pulitzer Prizes from hard-working Americans."

and, my favorite,

"...for denying him the presidency. No, wait, we did do that."

Well-known political cartoonist Lalo Alcarez is also on the hashtag, and his witty McCain-as-Smokey-the-Bear poster is linked to there

I haven't seen Colbert Report or The Daily Show recently, but you've got to figure this one's a slow moving target for them. (Nothing on their Web sites so far.) If they haven't blown McCain out of the water yet, seems they're bound to eventually.

You assholes throw around the "racist!!!" accusation far too easily. It's like the boy who cried "wolf".

Good stuff, fun read.  Love the "behind the scenes" narrative.

Got news for you Brooke, Steve has more credibility and integrity than you will ever have working for some washed up racist politician or Walmart.

McBlame is nothing more than a washed up old man that needs to be parked in an assisted care home with Bozo Joe Arpaio.

Then they can both continue to sell their bullshit to each other since no one else believes it anymore.

With McCain on the "hot seat," interesting that Sheriff Dever, who admits that he too has not a shred of evidence as to the cause of Arizona's recent wildfires,  came to irresponsible McCain's rallying cry for help.

I'm glad Stephen pointed to the fact that the Rob Krentz murder, the timing of which still gives me the chills, and which happened on Dever's watch, is still unsolved.  "Makes you wonder if Dever blames every crime he can't solve on illegal aliens. Mighty convenient those Mexicans are."

And the purpose in McCain's unsubstantiated, no-evidence, and speculative original general claims?  Guess.A column in today's Republic by a Washington Post writer points to the results. "But by appeasing the xenophobes in he Republican base, McCain and Co. are fanning the flames of racial hatred in the Southwest and beyond.  And there really is substantial evidence to that."

Gee, I'm amazed that Lalo "Alcarez" would make fun of McCain.

In fact, I'm shocked, shocked to find gambling going on in here.

I feel sorry for McCain's PR hack. Going to work at Walmart is far worse than working for McCain. I know. I worked at Walmart for 3 years.

As for McCain's statements, they may be racist, but he may be right, at least about the Monument Fire.

John Sewart on in left field is some kind of authority, is he?

As a dude in one of the racist hispanic groups said, "We don't call people racists because we neccessarily believ they are, but because calling those against us racists--WORKS. Get this qoute through your heads if you think, in the slightest, that these groups have any integrity.

teknik1200

why not call it like you see it?  we don't have to be afraid to hide from the racists any more.  they don't belong here. They are a hold over from times that have changed.  It's no longer taboo to call the racists out when we see them in plane sight, but it's funny how they think they can counter racism clams by proclaiming "racist" themselves.

Segregation was not very long ago, we are only just now moving out of these times.

The old timers hate to see minorities getting rights, and they are kicking and shoving every step of the way.  Soon they'll be gone, I don't think the young kids are the same as my parents.

If you open your eyes you'll see racism every where, it's all around.  To act like it isn't still rampant is blatant denial.

Soon the days will be gone when a room full of white guys doesn't feel at all uncomfortable to sit there and blast the minorities when they can't hear it.   As sad as it is I've seen it many many times.

Which is why McCain blames Mexicans for that enormous load in his Depends.

Can Pearce and Candy Andy join them?

It's not question of "racial hatred" Tina, when Americans want immigration laws enforced. Immgration laws apply to people that come here and overstay their visa's, and people from everywhere in the world that are here without permission. Sorry that it's only about Mexicans for you. I'll support Americans that are for making our borders mean something, whether people like you believe them to be xenophobes or not. I care enough about this country, to have that attitude.

Mistalee

Since we have no idea what caused the fire, it could have been caused by illegal border crossers. Or border vigilantes. Or one-legged Trotskyites.

To point at any one group or cause at this point is silly. And not just silly; McCain silly.

Spot on Jason....2 years as a Store Director was it for me....never looked back and best decision I ever made.

She'll collect her enormous salary, stock options and other perks then ride off into the sunset....

It must be a source of pride to be an "associate." I hope she gets a designer blue vest with "team leader" embroidered on it (note to trolls: ya gotta listen to George Lopez to get the team leader reference)

So who starts major forest fires and grass fires?

People.Machines.

Mother nature (lightning)

Animals causing sparks - especially shod or large hoofed animals, which are common in forests and grasslands.)

The conditions here are so dry because of the drought and the killing sub-zero temperatures during the winter that the entire southern part of Arizona is now a tinderbox. We can still have ,many more devastating fires before the summer rains come.

Before anyone jumps to conclusions about causes,  please take time to hope - or pray - that there are no more fires. If you are looking for a means to further your political agenda, I suggest that you kindly just shut the fuck up. Cochise County has suffered enough.

Any proof to back up that statement Bobby?

And the opposite is becoming very common, Americans are no longer as swayed by charges of racism, especially when it comes from ethnic interest groups that are themselves racists. Example: People that march in large groups in the beautiful cities and capitols, Americans built, with signs telling them to go back to Europe, etc. It ain't workin anymore amigos. From the moment you marched against Americans and denigrated them in their own cities, you burnt your bridges. You only have yourselves to blame for the backlash now building up against you. It might still be time for you to behave in the country you broke into. But I doubt you'll get the message since I've noticed that you still persist , stupid and stubborn that you are, in carrying the Mexican flag in your "protests".

You have no idea. Walmart was the most stressful company I have ever worked for. That place made me so stressed I would get sick on shift, both of my ankles swelled to the point I needed to go to the hospital, and headaches that were so severe it required at least a dozen Tylenol to kill, and on and on and on...

Glad I left. My job is low pressure, easier to handle and I get to work in air-conditioning. When I worked at Walmart, I knew everything up to an assistant manager, but never had the title. I was a cartpusher when I left.

Jason
Jason

It's really not a source of pride to be an "associate" of Walmart. The customers are nothing short of assholes, the management is corrupt, the pay is low, the work is stringent, the health benefits are the absolute worst, etc.

You are absolutely right about the drought and Arizona being like a tinderbox. While I have no political agenda, I wish people would shut the fuck up about this issue. We now know for fact that the criminal illegals did not start these fires.

Bobby
Bobby

Everyone that knows the assholes in the racist Hispanic groups in Los Angeles knew about this fool. Nothing was made up. We have these types in California in spades. You might say California is their home turf. One reason the states so fucked up.

Who gives a shit what you think? I don't. I'm immune to anti-white provocatuers like you.

Sofa king wut?

This is just another tired-ass version of "don't get me wrong, some of my best friends are nigras." Or like Sharron Angle claiming she's not a racist twit because she has Hispanic grandchildren.

Bobby tends to think that "facts" are weird shit he makes up on the spot to support  his arguments. He likely heard this from one of the other voices in his head, one that he considers an authority on the subject.

Bobby

By the way Keith, I realize that you have me pegged as some sort of anti-hispanic moron hater, or whatever, because I disagree with people about illegal immigration etc. Nope, I've been with a Cuban woman going on 17 years. I like most hispanic people. They're not as uptight as many other cultures, and have more of a sense of humor.

Bobby
Bobby

Keith, I have a good memory but not for the tiniest of details. If both of us are debating in "good faith" I'd have to ask you to believe me, that that is what the guy said, though I don't remember his name. It was some so-called activist in Los Angeles around 10 years or so ago. You have to admit, wild and outrageous statments, like the one they guy made, stick in the memory, whereas little unimportant details usually don't.
