Arizona Department of Public Safety Hacked by LulzSec

Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve Harrison has just confirmed that DPS computers have been hacked by the Internet pirates and keyboard anarchists of LulzSec.

(Currently, AZDPS.gov is down.)

LulzSec, which stands for "Lulz Security" (Lulz being a slang version of LOL, "Laughng Out Loud," or doing something just for kicks), posted a statement to its Website today announcing that it was "releasing hundreds of private intelligence bulletins, training manuals, personal email correspondence" as well as the "names, phone numbers, addresses and passwords belonging to Arizona law enforcement."

LulzSec goes on to say that, "we are targeting AZDPS specifically because we are against [Senate Bill 1070] and the racial profiling anti-immigrant police state that is Arizona."

The press release links to a torrent of info, which anyone can access via the site. this is titled, humorously, "Chinga La Migra," or "Fuck the Border Patrol."

Asked if the hacking of DPS computers was unprecedented, Harrison said, "I've never heard of it before."

He added that the swiped material "does not appear to be anything that would compromise ongoing investigations."

But Harrison said DPS is concerned for the safety of its officers as their names, addresses and other information are included in the data dump.

"We're trying to track down whoever did it and secure our system," Harrison explained. "Right now we think they got into our computers through our e-mail."

Harrison also said that "multiple state and federal laws" were broken by the hackers involved. As for their stated claim of being anti-SB 1070, Harrison pointed out that 1070 is currently tied up in the courts.

"No one is enforcing [1070] right now," he claimed.

Heretofore, LulzSec has hacked Fox.com and PBS.org. The home page of its Web site features an image of a sailing vessel with audio to the theme from the old TV show Love Boat.

Though I've yet to download all the info available, color me impressed with LulzSec's daring cyber attack on DPS, and the subsequent data dump.

Wonder who or what LulzSec will go after next? State Senate President Russell Pearce's e-mails, perhaps? Or the office of U.S. Senator and bigot-boy John McCain?

Oh, that would be terrible, just terrible...Especially were it McCain.

I think if Lulz shows material showing how the Govener ordered the DPS to target Truckers as they pass thu the state and write them hundreds of dollars in fines for petty things to generate money for the state, these men and woman work hard to bring us food and goods to American family's being away from there family's for day's and weeks at a time and then to pass thu AZ and be robbed by the DPS, if Lulz can show this great ripoff they will gain alot of support.

I don't know that encouraging this type of behavior is the right thing Stephen. Hacking is something that puts everyone's information in jeopardy.

x1134x
x1134x

The information is either in jeopardy or not.  The hacker has nothing to do with it.  Had they kep the data safe and secure it would't be being disseminated.

"Lulz Security" (Lulz being a slang version of LOL, "Laughng Out Loud," or doing something just for kicks)=-=-=-=-=-

Actually doing it for the "lulz" means you are doing it to get satisfaction from annoying the other person.

Kids who hack video games to cheat and frustrate the top players often claim they do it for the "lulz" as do internet trolls.

It is my belief that any activity that is funded by the taxpayer should be open to public review by any citizen at will. But, I cannot support hacking into the servers citizens pay for.  Sorry lulzsec your actions are just as criminal as the people who illegally enter the United States.

Extortion is alright with many of the people on this blog. As long as it serves the cause of illegal aliens and open borders, oh, and getting an old man that hasn't done a thing to them. These people have serious issues.

I never cease to be amazed at how many of the outright HATE MONGERS profess to be devout Christians. Oh, but God wants us to obey the laws of the land they insist.

I attended Catholic schools from grades 4-12. During those years, the last hour of class was typically spent reading the Bible. True, the Nuns who ran the Bible study said the Bible instructed us to obey the laws of the land.

However, I have a hard time believing that God would expect us to obey laws sanctioning human SLAVERY!

I don't believe God would want us to obey racial APARTHEID laws such as those that reigned in South Africa until 1994.

I don't believe that God would expect us to obey racial segregation laws. Or laws denying women the right to vote. Or state eugenics laws.

Neither do I believe God expects us to obey Arizona laws mandating the persecution of an entire ethnicity!

Seems to me the opposite is true; God expects his people to actively FIGHT such odious laws until they are dismantled!

Bobby
Bobby

That's right, YOU DON'T BELIEVE GOD WANTS THIS THAT OR THE OTHER. TRUTH BE TOLD, YOU HAVEN'T GOT THE SLIGHTEST IDEA WHAT'S IN THE MIND OF GOD. YOU ARE AN ANT.

Temoc
Temoc

Lulzsec is standing up for what is right! State sanctioned harassment of an entire ethnicity is flat out wrong!

I know the HATE MONGERS love to scream 'illegal'. But you know what?

The underground railroad was ILLEGAL!

Fugitive slaves were ILLEGAL!

Women voting was ILLEGAL!

Defying state eugenics boards was ILLEGAL!

Challenging racial segregation laws was ILLEGAL!

Rosa Parks refusing to give up her seat and move to the back of the bus was ILLEGAL!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F...

As reported on blog, the feds have mountains of evidence detailing the ILLEGAL activities of Joe Arpaio and the MCSO - yet where are the indictments?

Hence, the HATE MONGERS shrill cries about 'breaking the law' ring hollow!

LulzSec = HEROS!!!!!

That's a riot.  The troll's highchair just tipped over with him in it.

Comparing lulzsec and Anonymous to Rosa Parks and the Civil Rights Movement is incredibly insulting and demeaning.  Why don't you take your finger off the Caps Lock key for a minute and think about what you are saying.

Bobby
Bobby

Zahn, It's now strongely suspected that the Ms. Parks buss incident was probably staged by the far left communists who's meetings she so often attended. Bring up some real African American heros instead.

Bobby
Bobby

No man, get with it. Rosa attended communist meetings all the time. Don't you think it was kind of a coincidence, that, just as she's making her point about bus seating, all the camera's were rolling, everything just kind of "became clear" Yeah, some folks believe in Santa Claus and the tooth fairy to.

Your comparison to some of the United States' most important historical events to a small group of dedicated trolls is nauseating at best. The best part is that LulzSec could give two holy shits about what you consider to be heroic actions on their part. They did it because it's fun, not because they actually care about any of this.

Although, I have to admit, how they have managed to win you susceptible fools over so easily is pretty remarkable.

Bobby

You'll have to excuse some of these folks, who's sense of self-importance and faux indignation, well, really is tiring.

Mistalee

Blah, blah, blah.

Not much like your namesake, are you? Really just kind of a law'n'order conformist who likes to pose as a badass "Tyler Durden" sort of rebel. But you're no rebel. Just a weenie who likes to adopt an arrogant and contemptuous tone.

You are  boring and mundane.

Tyler Durden

Again, what you're saying is you don't have anything intelligent to add, and are going to make personal attacks instead. Gotcha!

Mistalee

No, what I am telling you is that you bore me. And likely a lot of other people as well.

Tyler Durden

So, what you're telling me is that you've run out of any kind of rebuttal and are now stooping to childish name calling? Aw, don't stop now. I'm having so much fun watching you grasp at straws.

Coz

Yup, pretty hard to respect any law enforcement when they themselves don't obey the laws.

I assume, Stephen, that you are going through the leaked documents with a fine-toothed comb for evidence of scandal, corruption, and the general dumbfuckery which is the trademark of Arizona's government.

But I would encourage everyone who has an interest in eliminating government corruption to download this document and have a look for themselves. Always good to have more than one set of eyes on this sort of thing...

I've gone through a lot of it. Some interesting stuff, which I'll post about later. Mostly these look like attachments to e-mails. About 95 percent of it is pretty dull. There are even pics of dudes fishing. But there are a couple of things of interest.

Mistalee

There are a few things. Officer Mork is in an embarrassing position.

But I haven't yet seen anything on the order of "here's where we hide the bodles."

I agree, which is why I've been in no great rush to blog about the unexciting results of this hacking. Re: the Hispanic teen, if we're talking about the same one, he pulled a gun on a skateboarder and the skateboarder kicks his ass (with some help from his pals). It's not the DPS doing the ass-whuppin'. THAT would have been news, of course.

Tina

My gosh, I forgot all about that. The "naughty images" and off-color or racist jokes and cartoons and stuff was being passed around via email in the Mesa Police Department, which was  made public in the spring of 2006.  (I don't think there was any hard core porn.)  The practice was discovered after a female employee in another city division was targeted by her male co-workers with raunchy emails, and after she filed a sexual harassment complaint, the city looked into all city employees'  email accounts and discovered all the transmitted "goodies" in Mesa PD.  The tittering public brouhaha resulted in some city policy about employees' email accounts, and if DPS didn't already have such an email policy, they probably adopted one after those public revelations in Mesa PD.  Strictly business.

Mistalee
Mistalee

Well, there's a video of a Hispanic teen getting the crap beat out of him, and a video of a couple of Iraqis getting reduced to a grease spot by a blast of high-tech weaponry. That's porn for a certain unfortunate personality type common amongst law enforcement. But not as enjoyable as T&A.

And there's the usual mass e-mail stupidity that every large organization with e-mail is plagued with.

But for the most part, what I've seen of these leaks is notable for the lack of anything notable.

StephenLemons
StephenLemons

Well, what's interesting to me is that I haven't seen one porn pic yet. There have been incidents like that in the past where other LEAs were caught passing around naughty images and what not. But none of that here. And no evidence of massive corruption or anything like it. At least not in what I've seen.
