Russell Pearce, Jan Brewer, Tom Horne, the Tea Party, All Get the Dennis Gilman Treatment

Gilman's latest: Beyond 1070: The Tea Party's War on Children

I'm sure glad I'm on local, lefty videographer Dennis Gilman's good side. Otherwise, he might skewer me in a video like the one above, where Attorney General Tom Horne, state Senator Lori Klein, state Senate President Russell Pearce, Governor Jan Brewer and an assorted bag of aggro Tea Party nutbars fly the nativist flag and get served in return.

Gilman paints this crew as anti-kid, and in large part they are, as long as the kids are brown. The kids dive into the battle as well and what the hateful bikers and wackadoodles seem to miss is that one day not too far away, they'll be decrepit and these pint-sized warriors will be fully grown and in their prime. One wonders how the nativist oldsters will explain their past actions then.

My favorite part of  Gilman's latest is his list of folks that didn't take ethnic studies classes. This includes the neo-Nazis, the nativists,Timothy McVeigh, child-killer Shawna Forde and so  on. I concur with the sentiment. That's why, in regard to ethnic studies, I've always believed such courses should remain optional for the various ethnic and racial groups involved. But for the white kids, they need to be mandatory.

As for Klein, Pearce, et al., obviously they need remedial classes.

Gilboy and the Feathered Fucktard can coddle these criminals all they want. Eventually they will grow up, steal their land and take their jobs. Supporting these illegal kids is the same as supporting terrorism against our country. Remember Vietnam? They use to send the children in and tie hangernades on them to blow us up. You pot smoking draft dodgers probably don't remember. It makes me horny just thinking about it.

Senator Lori Klein and Brandy are both heros. The last thing these gangsters need is more education.

Thank God you aren't in office Mr. Stephen Lemons.

Sir, you are a journalist, and is it not your responsibity to properly "educate" society?Obviously you have NOT PROPERLY DONE YOUR HOMEWORK or you would have obtained the following facts surrounding the Anti-American Mexican-American Studies, formerly known as Ethnic Studies. A new name doesn't cover up the evil.

Mexican American Studies (formerly known as Ethnic Studies) teach their students that Chicanos are oppressed by the white man. They follow the indoctrination ofMEChA which teaches that Chicanos are not to assimilate, and that they must "reclaim their lost land, Aztlan" which is Arizona. The MeChAists refuse to be called Hispanics, or Latinos, and they will not be "co-opulated" into the white man's world. They teach that Chicanos are the poor victims of society opposed to the fact that a man should be judged by the content of his character and not by the color of his skin. They don't teach that America IS the land of opportunity, and that all citizens are ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEMSELVES AND FOR THE FUTURE THEY CHOOSE TO CREATE FOR THEMSELVES, but instead, they trample on her with disrespect and beguiling reproach.

The Mexican American Studies Program, with the MeChA paradigm, teaches their Chicano students to play the "Poor me I'm a victim card" and that teachers don't have authentic caring for them like they do for caucasion students.

Delores Huerta of The American Farm Workers Association (Cesar Chavez connection) was a guest speaker at the Tucson High School District where she told an assembly room filled with impressionable teenagers that, "All conservatives hate Hispanics."

Mexican American Studies classes have American flags "sitting on the floor, propped up against the wall." Per the "Capitol Times" - October 2010 edition.

The Social Justice Education Project, which is a part of the Mexican American Studies curriculum, has a video called "Conquor and Reclaim."

Ethnic Studies (Mexican American Studies) students have been quoted, in research publications, stating phrases to the effect of "We can beat them by knowing our shi#. We can FUC# the white man up and get them out of our way. Now we know how to beat them!"

Che Guevara, an Argentine-Marxist "revolutionary guerrilla leader" who headed up Cuban Nazi Camps, is displayed on Ethnic Studies' (Mexican American Studies) classroom walls as a hero. Can we say oxymoron?

MEChA groups support "The Dream Act" which stands to give all law-breaking illegal immigrants the privilege of becoming a U.S. citizen through amnesty. They want America to reward law-breaking bad behavior with bad behavior. Again, the "Poor victim mentality."

Thank God for All American Governmental Leaders Who Have The Brains And Integrity to Stand Up and Do What Is Right By Saying No To Anti-American, hate-filled classes and "Yes" the equality, opportunity, assimilation, and desegregation of America!

The Ethnic Studies Classes (Mexican American Studies) separate kids, like the Old South, and teach them an Anti-American attidude towards our country. These students can FORGO U.S. HISTORY CLASSES to take this biased, toxic course instead. Are you starting to get the picture now Mr. Lemon?

Ethnic Studies students made a video called the "Killing of Tom Horne." These students are a product of the product. What you see is what you get. Do you really think these classes are producing well-rounded, contributing, ACCOUNTABLE members of society? Or do they produce individuals who are brainwashed into thinking they are oppressed, suppressed, not supposed to assimilate, and that they are doomed to a life filled with unfair treatment because of their race and that they have no chance for equality or justice?

An Ethnic Studies student testified at the AZ State Capitol last year and stated since she took the Ethnic Studies courses, she now knows that she's OPPRESSED. Great AZ taxpaying dollars at work - don't you think?

This is something every red-blooded American is against, and if it doesn't make your skin crawl, and your stomach turn, then check yourself, your identity, your morality (or lack of) down to the very core of your inner being and ask youself. What does it mean to be an American? What does it mean to have the priviledge, not the right, to be an American citizen? Who will stand for her liberty, valor, dignity, preservation, respect, and honor?

Or are there any REAL HEROES out there anymore? Oh yes ... there's Tom Horne, Jan Brewer, Russel Pearce, Steve Montenegro, etc., etc., etc. Imagine that ... lawmakers setting the standard for people to teach the truth regarding America and her precepts, and that people need to honor the laws of the land and go in through the front door and not the back. Wow - imagine that? Lawmakers actually upholding and standing for the law. Hmmm, I guess that's their job. Nothing neo-nazi at all.

Do Arizonan citizens a favor Mr. Lemon by keeping your toxic, uneducated, mis-leading, mellow-drama, distorting "waste of words" to yourself, and instead, only report when you know the truth about the subject at hand.

Speechless - An actual educated AZ citizen who cares to know the TRUTH!

Very Cool Video.. And I agree that all white kids should take Chicano Studies programs aka Ethnic Studies. They'll learn how the diversity in Chicano, Mexican-American and Latino roots have enriched our communities and helped shape our nation.

Horne did well as superintendent of public instruction. These courses taught a Marxist and separatist agenda. These courses were teaching students that they were being oppressed. This is NOT right. Horne did right by exposing these courses.

It is ethnic studies that is discriminatory. The courses teach that Mexican children are less valuable than others, that they are oppressed. Tom Horne looks at all children as equal, all entitled to the same education, to the same successes that are available through hard work, to the same freedoms. Ethnic studies teaches the Latinos that their hands are tied. Tom Horne untied those hands and free these children from the prejudices that ethnic studies impose

While I respect and appreciate your opinion and its very well articulated presentation I could not disagree with you more. I'm not disputing/questioning your education and experience with ethnic studies programs but I am curious to know if all of your information is first hand knowledge or something you read somewhere written by someone with some level of bias.

What always strikes me about any discussion regarding immigration, education or just Az politics/legislation in general is the lack of diversity within the particular movement that is pushing for an ethnic studies ban, the implementation of SB1070 and a "re-definition" of the 14th Amendment. Its especially disturbing to observe the ebbs & flows of this volatile subject matter come and go with each successive election. I like to consider myself a knowledgable and well informed individual so when all the apparent data, information, statistics being presented in support of legislation like 1070, the ethnic studies ban is proven wrong time and again a red flag does go up. The irony is that such legislation validates and reaffirms what these young impressionable individuals are believing to be true. Because in some ways it is. In my opinion.

I was fortunate enough to have taken an ethnic studies course when I was in high school years ago and had a very different experience then the account you've given. I was fortunate enough to have learned about the U.S. Mexican War, Manifest Destiny, the genocide of the American Indians, the poverty stricken communities in Appalachia. As wonderful as the 1st amendment is it does subject us to some radical views and opinions and unfortunately we as a society have a tendency to generalize an entire group based on the actions of a (in the grand scheme of things) small group.

I don't know about your heroes though. Tom Horne is a tool just pandering to the old, outdated, digressive mentality that seems to rule this state. He's just playing the political game of getting elected for the sake of being elected ala John McCain. Jan Brewer is a joke. Apparently all you need to run our state is an associates degree. Not to mention the passing of the most ridiculous gun laws in the nation, her one woman death panels, and 1070 of course...Russell Pearce wants to rewrite the constitution to better serve his ideals...all pretty anti-heroic

mikefrombisbee

Real Heroes? Jan Brewer, the drunk driver who cut the funding for transplant candidates? The woman who wants more rent-a-prisons like the one in Kingman that let mad dogs loose on a killing spree? Tom Horne, who was caught cheating by the SEC? Russell Pearce, the sleazy political fanatic who was fired from his job by MVD? The man who sponsored a Nazi for the Melchizadek priesthood in the Mormon church? The "hero" accused by both of his wives (past and current) of physical abuse? Who passes along emails from white supremacist groups? These are really your heroes?

Look up the definition of hero, or just use the definition that the U.S. military uses to determine heroism for the purpose of awarding decorations. Which of your so-called "heroes" meets that standard? You abuse and defame the word. And you type with CAPS which is silly and in bad, bad taste.

You are a sad case, dearie. You confuse patriotism with fascism. You believe that wrapping yourself in the flag and mouthing the pledge makes you a "red-blooded American." It just makes you a thoughtless Jingo.

What you really are is pitifully ignorant of Arizona history, of U.S. history and world history. You turn a blind eye to all of the hateful garbage that has been and is still spewed by people of your ilk towards "niggers" and "wetbacks" and "ragheads" while whining about the hateful chicanos who take pride in their culture.

I bet you a thousand dollars I could walk into a MAS classroom and be treated with respect by the kids and teachers. I'll bet you another thousand dollars that I could have a meaningful dialogue with students and challenge their beliefs without being threatened or insulted.

I'll bet you another thousand dollars that you have never spent any amount of time in a neighborhood where people of Mexican ancestry are predominant or even common. I'll bet you another that you get your knowledge of Mexico, Mexicans and Chicanos from people like RuSSell Pearce, Glenn Beck, Glen Spencer, Lou Dobbs and other far-right blowhards.

You set yourself as the spokesperson for "red-blooded Americans" but all you are is a whiner, who can point fingers without bothering to learn about the world in which you live. Chicanos don't assimilate? Perhaps you should get off your fat ass and visit Douglas or Nogales, or west Phoenix and look at the number of cars with bumper stickers that have "my son/daughter serves in the U.S. Army/Navy/Marines/Air Force." Perhaps you could summon up the courage to go into a barrio (don't worry - the brown people probably won't eat you) and count the U.S. flags displayed in the windows of homes. You call yourself an "actual educated citizen of AZ" but you display a willful, prideful ignorance that shows that you have little "actual" knowledge of Arizona history, U.S. history or world history.

Hell, you don't even know what a citizen is. You are, I would presume, a U.S. citizen, and a resident of Arizona. States do not confer citizenship, except in RuSSell Pearce's fantasy world.

I suppose, in your abject ignorance and paranoia, that you are OK with a legislator reading a letter written by an evidently disturbed substitute teacher accusing Hispanic students of hating America and wanting to grow up to be gang-bangers. That kind of unsubstantiated generalization is permissible in your world because you believe it.

And it's OK for tea-baggers to tote guns to congressional town hall meetings, to shout down and insult a U.S. congresswoman as well as any others who voice opinions that don't agree with their own, but it's not OK for Hispanic students to tell Tom Horne they oppose his crusade to shut down MAS?

Che Guevara was a Marxist, not a Nazi. Marxists are on the left, Nazis on the right. Got it? Cuban Nazi camps? Your unintended irony is unintentionally hilarious. But I'm not surprised. This is typical of the confused - or should I say twisted - thinking that has bubbled up and spilled out of the commode of right-wing thought during recent years. You must be a disciple of Glenn Beck and his mnetor Cleon Skousens.

If you can't handle Mr. Lemons' writing then I suggest that you get a subscription to Rev. Moon's Washington Times or to the Thunderbolt (The White Man's Viewpoint). I'm sure either of those fine publications would meet your needs.

I wish you really were speechless.

Crow

Wow. "Cuban Nazi camps" ? You need another history lesson.

One thing is blatantly clear. Folks that run around with American Flags on there heads, asses, motor-scooters and carry signs attacking babies have issues.

Banning historical info without being forced to disprove it which is what Horne is trying to do with Ethnic Studies. Those that support him are afraid of real history being recorded or taught and prefer ignorance. Thats why fools like you post things like "Cuban Nazi Camps"... I except nothing better from you.

Don't forget: Your President Bush killed more people then all of the wars Che Guevara fought. Your just hurt because he is more respected and better liked around the world.

Let's see:

A guest speaker said something controversial - so let's shut down free speech in defense of the Constitution. Is that the lesson you want to communicate to impressionable students? That controversy, which might spark debate, needs to be censored?

A student was quoting using profanity while describing a new-found desire to learn and to be educated. Is it the profanity or the courage to overcome that offends you?

You tell a lie about the classes not teaching the children that they are accountable for their actions, a lie for which you offer no support (because it is unsupportable.)

You claim that by teaching honestly the events of history, including those that case a negative light on America, that classes are un-American. Which is the truer American: the one that needs to lie about the past or the one that can confront its mistakes and in so doing avoid them in the future? The one that thinks America only looks good when written as fiction or the one that teaches that even with flaws, America is a great and good country?

At the end of the day - that's your problem. You only love the myth of America, whereas the Hispanic-Americans love its reality. To them, the dream of America is so real they risk their lives coming here, endure daily racism (even when they are citizens) and they do so being fully aware that America has both good and bad aspects.

Doctors teach us that being unable to simultaneously accept positive and negative aspects in a person or entity is the best indicator of a borderline personality disorder. In other words: people who think in terms of black and white, and can not accept shades of grey, are weak-minded and ultimately bad for our society.

While you need rose colored glasses to love America, the Hispanic-Americans love it, warts and all -- even warts like you.

Yea, the actual educated AZ citizen knows that you're full of shit.

For example, you claim the Dream Act "stands to give all law-breaking illegal immigrants the privilege of becoming a U.S. citizen through amnesty. They want America to reward law-breaking bad behavior with bad behavior. Again, the "Poor victim mentality."

The Dream Act is available online here: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/...

Once you read it (obviously you have not) you will learn the act is heavy on qualifications and requirements, thereby negating your dishonest claim it would be offered to "all." As you will further discover, it is not an Amnesty bill, at least not as Amnesty is defined in all English dictionaries other than the wingnut guide to mendacity.

The Dream Act is a way to retain within America those who were not responsible for their "illegal" presence in America and from whom America can derive great value.

So, having examined just one point, we find you are either a liar or a fool. With that knowledge, why would we ever believe anything else you write?

Real informed AZ don't mindlessly repeat the crap put out by hate radio. Perhaps someday you'll have the intellectual courage to do your own research.

They should be learning that in American history. Unfortunately, American history as taught in most public schools is the biggest, most fucked up, dishonest ethnic studies program there is; It is the idealized and fictionalized history of european-descended white people.

It's so goddamned skewed that other ethnic groups need their own ethnic studies programs just to get an idea of who they are and where they fit in this country. It is disgraceful!

Ethnic studies does not teach minority children (ethnic doesn't mean Mexican) that they are less valuable and oppressed it teaches them a history/reality that isn't covered in the vast majority of U.S. history classes. What did you learn in school (elementary/secondary) about the U.S. Mexican War & Manifest Destiny? Was the plight of Native American people ever referred to as what it really was/is? (genocide). These classes aren't made available exclusively to children of color. Any responsible, ethical, realistic individual seeking knowledge and wanting to educate themselves should want to know the ENTIRE history of our country.

Kit Carson
Kit Carson

Liar.

The classes did not teach that Mexican children are less valuable than others. You may think that, in your heart-of-hearts, but it is not what was taught.

The classes taught that Mexican-Americans were oppressed. That is a historical fact. You may not have the intellectual courage to confront racism and to deal with its consequences, but that is no excuse for deliberate defamation.

The classes taught that all are equal, and that hispanic Americans need not feel ashamed nor should they feel they are second-rate.

The classes stood for the exact oppostite of the lies you have told, and that is what scares you the most. That is why you repeat the hate fed to you by the wingnuts.

You like treating Hispanic-Mexicans like second-class citizens, and you can't stand the thought of it being any other way.

AL

You are correct! Facing unapologetically those attacking Arizona, new AG Horne stands strong defending our liberty and equality. As Frances Wright said, “equality is the soul of liberty; there is, in fact, no liberty without it.“ But not all want us to be free and equal in these United States. Waving Mexican flags and shouting the slogan of Chicano Movement "Por La Raza todo, Fuera de La Raza nada", meaning "For the Race, everything, outside the Race, nothing," racism and ethnocentrism rears its ugly head as it is preached to children in Tucson ethnic studies programs. In their own words, “As Chicanos of Aztlán, we are a nationalist movement of Indigenous Gente that lay claim to the land that is ours by birthright. As a nationalist movement we seek to free our people from the exploitation of an oppressive society that occupies our land. Thus, the principle of nationalism serves to preserve the cultural traditions of La Familia de La Raza and promotes our identity as a Chicana/Chicano Gente.” TUSD’s Mexican Studies program proudly boasts that the ideology and structure of their education is based on the work of Paulo Freire, who inspired by Engels, Marx, and Lenin, developed the Marxist pedagogy for the “oppresed”. TUSD’s Mexican Studies Vision reads like a similar vision explicated in a Muslim Brotherhood memo written in 1991 which lays out a plan to destroy the U. S. government using nonviolent means such as promoting of ethnic pride and building cultural centers in major cities which can be used as acceptable places to indoctrinate the masses, among other activities. This memo was submitted as evidence in the 2008 Holy Land Foundation trial in Texas . This trial revealed a multi-year operation to funnel millions of dollars to other organizations whose purpose is to destroy Israel and the United States . Not surprisingly “La Raza to Gaza ” is a similar endeavor with exactly same objectives. At the time when Arizonans suffer illegal immigration onslaught, liberal media attacks, national condemnation by labor unions urging economic boycott, public ridicule, border infringement and lawsuit by the current D.C. administration – at the time when Mexican drug-lords are becoming more and more powerful inside of U.S., Tom Horne is willing to stand up to threats to our sovereignty, our liberty and our equality and defend us, without hesitation, against all enemies domestic or foreign. For that we owe him our support and gratitude.

What I find "discriminatory" when it comes to "classes". I find it "discriminatory" that the White teacher/professor whitewashes history--particularly that involving Native Americans. These know nothings who teach such courses won't tell the truth, spew innuendo and stereotypes etc. This is reminiscent of a white hood wearing klan member teaching Black history. That's what I would call--"discriminatory" and fallacious.

Can anyone really convince someone that some group isn't what they appear to be? Graffitti, car theft, violent behavior, an attitude of exclusivness, gangs, disrespect for Americans property, etc. Do you honestly think most Americans are blind to this crap? Even Hollywood depicts this stuff. Yeah, I admit most Mexicans don't do these things--but enough of them do to create a stereoptype. By the way, do you mean Mexicans were historically suppressed in Mexico? They had very little to do with building this nation, and should be gratefull to have been allowed entrance by the people that did. How's that for an alternative and honest viewpoint. I don't see Mexico rolling out the red carpet and allowing all sorts of criminality by non-Mexicans. They''ed be rotting in a rat infested jail PRONTO.

I guess you never heard of the dual wage system. Or of segregated neighborhoods and public accommodations in AZ. Of inferior company housing for people of color. Or of Japanese farmers being forced out of their homes in Phoenix. Of kids punished for speaking Spanish on the playground. Or of hiring discrimination. Or of rural farming communities were brown people where treated like livestock. Or of the Ku Klux Klan. Or of sentencing disparities. Or of police brutality. Or of indigenous people being lied to, cheated and forced off their ancestral lands. This is reality. This is a large part of the real history of our state. This is not the myth of the "City on a Hill" that right-wingers love to believe in.

I know members of MEChA. I know other leaders in the Chicano community. They are neither racist nor are they whiners. They want Chicanos to be treated fairly. They do not want to return "Aztlan" to Mexico. They are Americans. They just want their country to live up to its ideals. For everyone - not just white Christian fundamentalist right-wingers.

Tom Horne is a sleazy, corpulent Tory who was quite willing to resort to gutter politics to get himself elected Superintendent of Public Instruction (remember those trashy hit pieces targeting Jaime Molera?) He was obsessed with ferreting out anything that brown people do that he believed is wrongful since he took office as state schools superintendent, but has been unwilling to devote the same energy to uncovering wrongdoing by fellow white Tories such as Arpaio since taking office as A.G. That would make him a hypocrite, but I state the obvious.

"La Raza to Gaza"?

What world do you live in? Are you ignorant or simply afraid of facing the truth?

The real world is where Senator Lori Klein, republican, reads an incredibly racist and factually false letter, then goes on Fox news and defends it as the Gospel and adds a few more racist fairy tails to the stir. It's also where Pearce defends the letter as Gospel while ignoring the child abuse his 9 day old grandchild suffered under the care of his criminal white supremacist son. "La Raza to Gaza"? Is anyone stupid enough to believe you? Do you even believe that?

Did you just pull that out of your ass or is it a new talking point from the Tea Party Koolaid drinkers? Just because it rhymes doesn't make it any less stupid.

Tom Horne is a puke of a human being. Creating racial tensions where there weren't anyis his only claim to fame. In a State like Arizona where scape-goating the Mexicans is still popular, he barely won as Attorney General. If the election were today-he'd lose. It's becoming less popular to be a racist in Arizona these days. People are getting sick of it.

Bobby, you just love demonstrating your blind stupidity and hate filled arrogance don't you? You know nothing of the history of the Southwestern US yet pontificate as if you are a well educated professor. Unfortunately for you, most New Times readers are not believers in your racist lunacy. That is why you're constantly being told to get yourself some help. Just reading some history instead of watching the Fox Propaganda Network would be a start.!
