Richard Chrisman, Killer Cop, Feted by PLEA at BBQ/Fundraiser This Thursday

No shame in PLEA's game, as you can see

I have to wonder if the Phoenix Law Enforcement Association would be so supportive of fired killer-cop Richard Chrisman if his victim had been white instead of Latino.

PLEA has gone all out to back Chrisman, who has kept his lips zipped about the October 5 shooting of unarmed south Phoenix resident Daniel Rodriguez. Simultaneously, the police union has taken great pains to smear Phoenix Police Officer Sergio Virgillo, the other cop present when the shooting went down.

Virgillo told investigators there was no reason for Chrisman to shoot Rodriguez and his dog. Neither were a serious threat to either officer, according to Virgillo. Chrisman currently faces charges of second-degree murder, animal cruelty, and aggravated assault over the incident.

Rodriguez's mother recently filed a notice of claim with the City of Phoenix for $30 million.

Chrisman's a PLEA member, Virgillo is not, though PLEA technically represents both men under the union's Memorandum of Understanding with the city. PLEA helped Chrisman make bail, and PLEA President Mark Spencer and PLEA lobbyist Levi Bolton have tried to influence the Maricopa County Attorney's case against Chrisman.

Spencer and Bolton made contact with MCAO liaison Keith Manning, raising the issue of the Chrisman case with him. And 48 hours after the shooting, Spencer called a detective at the PPD's Drug Enforcement Bureau to dig up dirt on Virgillo and his wife. (Spencer refused to be interviewed by MCAO investigators over the matter.)

KPHO/Channel 5 (a.k.a., "PLEA TV") later ran a piece detailing Virgillo's wife's conviction for being part of a drug trafficking scheme. According to an interview done by the MCAO with the same cop Spencer pumped for info, wiretaps on Virgillo at the time revealed he had no knowledge of his wife's lawbreaking.

Now PLEA, which has transformed itself under Spencer's watch into an anti-immigrant lobbying group, is holding a BBQ/fundraiser for Chrisman, who was recently axed by the PPD. The BBQ will take place at PLEA's offices at 1102 West Adams Street in Phoenix this Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., and 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Whether or not Chrisman is found guilty of second-degree murder, his activities have been a stain on the department. First there was the 2005 incident where he planted a crack pipe on a homeless, mentally ill African-American woman, which landed him on the MCAO's Brady list

He should have been fired then, but he was given a day's suspension instead. Then there was his involvement in the PPD's off-duty scandal.

Bottom line: Chrisman is a bad cop, and deserves his dismissal. And PLEA, with this BBQ and its other actions, has let us all know what sort of organization it is.

My guess is that PLEA would not have been so forthcoming had Rodriguez's last name been Jones, if you catch my drift. PLEA has defined itself as anti-Hispanic, despite having a few minorities on its staff and board. This includes Bolton, who is African-American, but still cops PLEA's bigoted line toward Latinos.

Yeah, Chrisman has (or had) a Hispanic girlfriend. That doesn't spare him or PLEA in this, no matter how often Chrisman parades her before the cameras.

(I should point out that PLEA's views are not the same as all of the officers they represent, certainly. In fact, PLEA's dues-paying membership has been steadily declining over the last couple of years.)

PLEA's anti-Hispanic stance as well as PLEA's unwavering support of Chrisman will taint it for some time to come. This BBQ should be closely monitored by the press. Those who attend should be scolded for lending aid to a man who has so clearly disgraced the profession of law enforcement.

Nope..they did it because hey are cops...are dirty..and oh...they're dirty cops. C'mon...look at the dirty thirty who've been investigated for fraudulent dealings as "off duty cops" then most let off & not b/c they were innocent but because they just didn't do it enough and didn't steal enough money. Really? How about the Peoria cop that beat the hell out've a young mother after stopping her 4 speeding and "thought" she was drunk...lawyers, law enforcement did nothing...after he beat the crap out've her leaving her w/permanent injuries oh...and in front of her two children under the age of 8...Coux de gras? They witnessed without questioning...their mother was innocent and the cops left them unattended. oh blast it...the young mother was white. Blonde hair..petite, scared to death...oh did I say white? C'mon now...hispanic had nothing to do with it. If this writer knew his as from a hole-in-the-ground he'd KNOW phoenix police help run a sanctuary city...and we who live here KNOW who really get preferential treatment...

and just 4 the record...*I* am American Indian

I'm not sure I have any heartache regarding a union supporting a member over a non-member.

Fair comment, and one I largely agree with. However, how far one takes that support is the issue here. It's one thing to say "we stand behind our member as the process plays out." It is quite another to continue on saying "and that other guy doesn't pay us money, therefore he's a lying piece of trash."

At the end of the day, that's what is going on here. PLEA is going after a cop because that cop didn't check its name when it came time to pay union dues.

PLEA can and should execute its obligations to its members. It can not and should not be allowed to tarnish the reputation of an honorable cop simply because PLEA needs more money.

Wow New Times, I am impressed with your leftist ramblings. No proof just speculation being passed off as journalism. If Mr. Rodriguez is such an innocent victim why did his mom have to call the cops in order to control him? She really did not care about him, but now that dumbass is dead, she has 30 million reasons to love him. As far as Virgillo goes, he is a liar and a pussy, I will back that statement up when ever he is ready and grows some balls! After seeing your actions Virgillo at the 239 call I have nothing to worry about. PS I don't work for PPD.

Kit Carson
Kit Carson

Pathetic - just empty name calling devoid of any specifics. Leftist rambling? How so? Seriously, other than the fact that you think calling someone a leftist is an insult, what basis do you have for saying any information contained in this blog is leftist? The left loves the police and loves the police unions and bargaining groups. PLEA falls into both, so taking it on is hardly "leftist."

Further, under your bizzarro logic anytime the police have a legitimate reason to respond to a call they may then shoot who ever they damn well please. Your world is one of tyranny, fortunately that is not the America in which we live. We grant the police special priviledges, but they are not without restriction and regulation. Any office who fails to understand this, or thinks those rules are BS, should go find more suitable employment.

Furthermore, Virgillo posses a style of courage and personal integrity that evades your demonstratively simple mind. Cops like you - and their jock sniffing apologists - have no concept of what it means to be a man, to have honor or to act selflessly.

I pity the community you claim to serve, and the children in whose lives you pollute.

Why does the fact that someone speaks spanish AND english make them worthy of being discriminated against? That's so ignorant - people of all ethinic groups speak multiple languages - heck with all the spanish classes in high school, I'm guessing more people of the European ethinic group speak spanish that those people who are from native american ethinic group(s) (this includes all native americans on this continent - including those who are from South of our U.S. border).

BTW - They forgot to indicate on the flyer that add Sergio Virgillo was "Not Invited."

When I read the BBQ headline I was so hoping they would be having a pig roast. That would have been too much.

>"I have to wonder if the Phoenix Law Enforcement Association would be so supportive of fired killer-cop Richard Chrisman if his victim had been white instead of Latino."

Along with several other declarations in the blog concerning PLEA being anti-Hispanic, I just don't see any support for this statement.

I'm not saying you're wrong, just that in *this* article, there's nothing to back it up. Not even links to other stories, said links being something PNT is typically great about.

I'm sure there's a back-story here I just don't know about, so could you elaborate on this or provide some links in your next entry?

Look at the murders by cop in the Phoenix area since the 1990s, at least. How many wealthy white Scottsdale residents were extra-legally executed by da piggies? How many were low income and black, brown or red?

Mario Madrigal?Edward Mallett?Rudy Buchanan?

How many others?

Does the fact that murder by cop in a mostly white city happen almost exclusively to non-whites indicate some sort of racism at play? Could it be? Is it possible?

jtready
jtready

Yes. Quite "racist". The facts speak for themselves. It shows that we have to hire mostly White cops because we are lacking in qualified non-White candidates. This, despite a disproportionate amount of resources spent courting, recruiting, hiring, promoting, and retaining non-White cops over more qualified White candidates. Then, we have to send these mostly White police officers into harm's way in crime ridden non-White areas due to the overwhelming propensity toward violence of these non-White communities. The result: Dead White cops. Dead non-White offenders.

@Kit Carson,

He gets his "information" from his fat lard ass, just by pulling it out without any validity to it. Here's another fact, for anyone familiar with the White Supremacist movement. Its well documented that White Supremacists/neo-Nazis(like J.T.Ready for instance) have killed more LEOs than any other ethnic group or organization. Approximately 99.9% of the WNs are avid anti-Law Enforcement, anti-American. There is no other ethnic group or organization domestically inside the U.S. that has murdered/or had shoot-outs with cops in the line of duty than any other ethnic group. Neo-Nazis like J.T.Ready are the most despisable figures within the American society. Its laughable that 1 or 2 gullible LEO would associate with a turd like Ready.

Kit Carson
Kit Carson

*YAWN* Again, lots of claims, nothing to back it up.

Where do you get your information? You're quick to spout-off, so you must have some reasonable basis for your belief, no?

Before repeat your past errors: don't write "it's common knowledge." "Common knowledge" is actually a term of art used derisively in philosophy as "“[t]hat term [common knowledge is] unfortunate, since there is no assurance that it will be knowledge, or even that it will be true."

In other words when you write "it's common knowledge" you are publicly admitting you have no basis for thinking what you think is, in fact, the truth.

> Does the fact that murder by cop in a mostly white city happen almost exclusively to non-whites indicate some sort of racism at play? Could it be? Is it possible?

I'm trying to traffic in something other than speculation. The claim is not that the police are racists, but that PLEA is a racist organization. I'd like some showing of proof.

Again, I'm not saying that PLEA isn't, just that in this article I don't see any real discussion of why PLEA is. I'm confident a back-story exists here that I don't know, just looking for some pointers on how to find it, so that I can give it consideration.

FWIW: what I remember most from the stats I saw in law school is that poverty is the number one indicator of being at-risk for being shot by police. I'm sorry I don't have the precise cite at my fingertips, hence the "for what it is worth" predicate.

I'm really glad I'm not a member of PPD and have to make a decision on this one. On one hand you want to support your brother/sister officers, on the other hand one of your brother officers has said that the killings of another human and his dog by a brother officer were not warranted. PLEA has an obligation to provide some degree of financial assistance to it's members. I suppose the BBQ is an effort to raise additional monies to help the guy defend himself, since he is now unemployed - at least at PPD, while awaiting trial.

I wonder if any members of PLEA helped with a fund raising car wash for the guy who was killed? Just a thought...

"I have to wonder if the Phoenix Law Enforcement Association would be so supportive of fired killer-cop Richard Chrisman if his victim had been white instead of Latino."

According to the FBI, shoe leather brown "Hispanic" and lily "White" are the same thing when racking up crime statistics against Whites. Meanwhile, if it is a "hate crime", it always lands in the Whites laps even if the perpetrator was Hispanic and the victim was Black. I wonder why there is a disproportional amount of Latino criminals and Latino cop killers though? Could this case instead point to the dirty cop in fact being the lying Latino with a drug-trafficking girlfriend? Or could it just be that Chrisman has laid with dirty dogs and gotten covered in fleas as a result? Either way, the fact remains that more Phoenix cops are killed on duty by Latinos and illegal aliens in recent years than any other ethnicity. No wonder PLEA has taken the stance they have on massive illegal immigration!

So if a pack of Skinheads boot party this guy (below on link) to death which the government misleadingly labels as lily "White", will all you anti-White haters call it just some Whites killing Whites. Or will you cry bloody murder and classify it as a "hate" crime to raise millions more for the SPLC?

Narco-terrorists satisfy the appetites of those here in the U.S. for euphoria producing drugs (which happen to be illegal here). The reason for this demand is that many here are not happy with their lives and THINK that taking a drug will help them achieve that goal. It's not the job of our government to try to make people happy, but to stay out of the way so we can PURSUE happiness. Making laws which create criminality out of the pursuit of happiness is one of the worst things that have ever happened on this planet. Remove those laws from the books and your "books" will become balanced. No more cartels, no more 70% of inmates on drug charges to lock up, no more growing private prison complex, no more jail gangs, just people trying to pursue happiness. I'm guessing that if you legalize all these euphoria producing drugs, people who are trying to get happy by using them might realize that they're not all that effective. I'm guessing that the laws against the use of herion, cocaine, meth, etc. etc. are just advertising for the drug cartels which indicates to people trying to get happy the POSSIBILITY that these drugs might work to do that.

Addiction is not happiness and people using these drugs, if they were legal, would realize this quickly.

Drug laws are so screwed up - hopefully when these bigoted alcohol drinkers finally die off they will be removed and we humans will get back to trying to pursue happiness.
