Paul Babeu's New BFF, Neo-Nazi Harry Hughes? Not Exactly

Babeu and a neo-Nazi:PCSO initially thought this pic had been photoshopped

Anyone recall the flap of about a year ago, when Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu went on a white supremacist radio show in Tennessee called "The Political Cesspool"?

PCSO spokesman Tim Gaffney took the spear for not vetting that one for his boss. And I couldn't help but recall that little brouhaha when it came to my knowledge that Gaffney may have used a photo from National Socialist Movement member Harry Hughes in official correspondence to a trio of border mayors who had asked Babeu to tone down his rhetoric on illegal immigration.

Hughes has owned the pic as his on various Web sites that reported on the matter. And indeed, Hughes has the original photo on his Facebook profile. It's of some steel barriers in the desert.

Justanotherday
Hughes doing his NSM thing...

There's also a photo of Hughes and Babeu together that's made the rounds and has been used as anti-Babeu propaganda. The original photo was apparently taken at a Tea Party rally in the city of Maricopa back in 2010.

As for the pic of the barricades, Gaffney told me that he was not sure if it came from a citizen or had been taken by the sheriff. Gaffney explained that citizens send the PCSO pics all of the time. He said neither he nor the sheriff knew Hughes or were aware of Hughes' fascist inclinations.

Gaffney looked through his e-mails and he did discover a couple from Harry Hughes, but stated that there was "no mention I can see of any hate group affiliation."

Scrolling down the page on the second e-mail Gaffney sent me, which was mostly about stray dogs, I noticed that at the very end of it, Hughes had an NSM Web banner and he identified himself as "NSM-AZ Executive Officer/Media Spokesman."

I pointed this out to Gaffney via e-mail. This was his response:

"Never read all the way to the bottom I guess. I receive over 300 emails per day from citizens and media. I answered this as I would any citizen request for assistance. Once again I do not support any hate groups."

Concerning the photo of Babeu and Hughes, Gaffney initially told me via phone that the PCSO was aware of the photo, but believed it had been "photoshopped."

Gaffney stated that the sheriff told him, "I've never seen that guy."

harry&babs2222.JPG

Not photoshopped, as you can see here

However, Hughes has the original on his Facebook account, along with other pics from that day. The full photo does not look photoshopped. I sent the full photo to Gaffney asking him if he wanted to walk back on the "photoshopped" statement. Gaffney agreed with me that the full photo did not look altered.

Gaffney offered that the sheriff takes photos with a lot of folks and he can't run a background check on them before consenting for a photo.

Still, as Hughes and other open neo-Nazis have been actively patrolling the Vekol Valley, and as there have been numerous stories in the media on them, I was a little surprised that neither Gaffney nor Babeu had heard of Hughes.

I contacted Hughes and he stated the pics were legit.

"It's a real picture," he told me of the one of him and Babeu. "Everything there is the real deal."

Basically, Hughes was at the same event as Babeu and a friend of Hughes snapped a quick photo of the pair.

hhpicletter (2).JPG
Maricopa360.com
Gaffney's letter, with Hughes' pic (apparently) to the left

"I don't hang out with the sheriff," Hughes admitted. "He doesn't hang out with me...We're not working together."

Hughes also said that he never gave the photo of the metal barriers to Gaffney. He suspects Gaffney or someone at the PCSO swiped it off his blog, Just another day...

"I've got stats for who comes to my site," he explained. "I can see Pinal County's been there. [Gaffney] should have asked."

I've often written that Hughes is the nicest neo-Nazi I know, though he doesn't like the term "neo-Nazi," and prefers "National Socialist."

To be fair, I noticed in one of his Facebook galleries that he has a photo of me taken when I was covering a rally down at the Capitol. Hughes is in it, too. Though you'll notice there's at least some sunlight between us. I ain't no Joel Fox, you see...

Hughes' original photo, which (apparently) ended up in Gaffney's letter

(Hughes also has a funny pic on his Web site of him standing behind the New Times sign at night. Kinda looks like he's flippin' the Hitler salute.)

Hugues doing a sort-of sieg heil at the New Times sign after hours

I'm not aiming to make too big of a deal out of this Babeu-Hughes thing. Guilt by association works so much better when there's a substantial association to exploit, as there was with neo-Nazi J.T. Ready and now-state Senate President Russell Pearce. In that case, they worked an anti-immigrant rally together, and they were well acquainted with each other, friends even.

harrysteve.JPG
HarryHughesFacebook
You'll note there's light between us...

Actually, after reviewing the PCSO letter, I'm more disturbed by the photos of corpses Gaffney placed therein. Sure, Gaffney was trying to make a point, but using photos of deceased victims without any context smacks of exploitation and, at the very least, poor taste.

Last I checked, Gaffney still fails to offer even the beginning of a plausible explanation of how the Nazi’s photo ended up in his PCSO letter to the border mayors. Hughes rules out the possibility that he himself sent it to Gaffney, so it could only have come from one source, directly or indirectly: Hughes’ Facebook galleries, where it had been posted obscurely for a month and a half when Gaffney appropriated it. Nobody who sees his Facebook page can doubt that Hughes is a Nazi. So Gaffney can’t easily admit -- especially with his history of lying about on-the-clock contacts with white supremacists -- that he sat at work, on the public payroll, surfing Nazi websites, cutting and pasting items into official government documents. As Babeu would say, that’s a problem. So we’re left with only one airy-fairy possibility: some mysterious third party (inside or outside PCSO) got the photo from Hughes or his Facebook page and passed it along to Gaffney, who haplessly stuck it into a highly public, highly insulting letter, on PCSO letterhead, to some non-white elected officials. (It wasn’t even particularly germane to the letter. Surely random images of Normandy barriers aren’t the most compelling evidence of off-the-charts violence he could conjure?) Again, whoopsie daisy!

Gaffney now says, in effect, that when he wrote in the letter that the photo was the product of an official PCSO investigation, he wasn’t telling the truth -- that he actually had no idea where it came from, and made no effort to find out. So in the most self-exonerating story he can think to tell, he convicts him of incompetence and petty dissimulation.

And he gives us little reason to believe even that well of him. Like him boss, he’s lied before about his contacts with white supremacists. He presumably hopes this’ll all blow over before Babeu gets home, but I suspect that before it’s all over, Gaffney will be joining Louie Puroll in the ranks of the former studs of the PCSO.

Two thoughts:

1. Is there any doubt that the Tea Party contains vast elements of white supremacists and is becoming more unabashedly anti-caucasian? 2. Where are the results of Babeu's "investigation" of the Munnell memo? Seems to be taking a long time.

I think some of the comments here have taken the photo out of context. It was taken at a Maricopa Tea Party event hosted by the Maricopa Republican Club. Babeu took lots of pictures that day with a lot of people. He has the choice of either taking the picture with them or coming off as a snob, something a locally-elected official really can't afford. It's no different than a President or Senator shaking hands and posing for photo-ops with the population at large. I could see there being a big hub-bub if the picture was taken at a pro-Nazi rally, etc. That just simply isn't the case and all this picture shows is that Babeu is kind enough to take pictures with the general public instead of snubbing them.

By the way, the picture is real. I either took it or one of two others in our group took it. Honestly, I don't remember but we took a lot of pictures that day and Harry's camera was in a lot of hands during the event. It's not photoshopped and there really isn't anything damning here to be worth doing a photoshop anyway.

A public official posed for a photo with a random private citizen. In other news, the sun rose today also.

Lemme see if I’ve got this straight. Tim Gaffney, in an insulting letter to a group of Hispanic elected officials, includes photos he says are “from cases our folks have investigated.” But -- whoopsie daisy! -- it turns out he pilfered one from a well-known local Nazi. (Lemons says “may have used.” There’s no “maybe” to it.) When confronted with the facts, Gaffney now claims that -- contrary to his claim that the photo was “from cases our folks have investigated” -- he actually has no clue about its provenance. So his defense is a combination of incompetence, coincidence, and petty dissimulation.

Gaffney might deserve a more robust benefit of the doubt if he hadn’t already been caught lying (and badly) about his contacts with the racist fringe once before. When Babeu was called out for going on The Political Cesspool, Gaffney’s story wasn’t only implausible on its face. It was flatly contradicted, among other things, by his boss’s statements on the show.

This latest bizarre episode only reminds us that they lied to us before. That perishable trust Babeu talks about holding stopped breathing long ago.

I have no personal problem with Baboon's private homosexual liaisons with his former roommate now living in Chicago. Turd burglaring is not a crime in this state anymore, thanks to former Governor Jane Hull and fmr. Rep. Steve May. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S... (Consequently, it is also legal to have sex with animals in Arizona as a result of brashly doing away with the anti-sodomy laws) So all you zoophiles have a blast! http://blogs.phoenixnewtimes.c... I have no problem with Baboon's love of the spotlight either. (Just don't get between him and a camera or he may have you arrested) But there are several fundamental flaws with which I take serious issue concerning this wannabe skinhead law enforcement official. http://www.thepoliticalcesspoo...

First, besides his T.V. escapades, he has failed to properly utilize the resources at his disposal to interdict narco-smugglers threatening civilian life near I-8 and Hwy. 84. Yet he constantly cries for more money. Secondly, he plays partisan politics blaming democrat Napolitano and democrat Obama for things republican Brewer herself is guilty of. Not sending National Guard troops to the area. With members of Jan Brewer's family as valley meth addicts, you would think she would consider border security more of a priority as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v... Next, it is Baboon's sworn duty to uphold and defend all the citizens' constitutional rights. Not use his public office with his media bulldog Gaffney to harass and intimidate those whom they find politically expedient to discriminate against. Imagine if he said those darn "queers" just aint welcome here! Oops, that would include him. Nevermind. Finally, if he or Gaffney really were concerned by "hate" crimes being committed in the area, they would develop a better intel strategy than lamely telling area militias to look out for evil ole J.T. Ready. In fact, with the help of the US Border Guard www.flickr.com/USBorderGuard the feds are already looking into certain militia members in the area who are actually Rip Teams (Crews that rip off dope from the smugglers). As well as investigating other serious crimes.

And with a Joint Task Force consisting of a palsy number of members playing a cat and mouse defense game each night facing down hundreds of well armed and well equipped cartel assassins- as announced by J.J. Hensley of the AZ Republic- http://www.azcentral.com/12new... , you definitely want to know where all the friendly guns are in the area, whether they be gay or national socialist. Maybe such prudent coordination could have prevented a Blue on Blue militia on BORTAC shooting incident which occurred recently. http://bortac.com/ Besides, even evil ole "neo-Nazis" happen to stumble upon caches of weapons, large quantities of drugs, rape victims, and dead bodies in the desert from time to time. Wouldn't the public care to know about these finds? Homo or not, I would think Baboon should be less blinded by hate against those whom he personally disagrees with and more concerned about public safety. As for Harry Hughes, I concur with the Feathered Bastard that he just may be the nicest neo-Nazi a stranded desert traveler could ever have the fortune to cross paths with. Be they a thirsty Mexican or lost a White.

Mexico sucks. Why don't mexicans just come to America legally? Why sneak through the desert? Because they have no diginity. They are cowards who instead of fighting for their country woudl rather come and leech off of taxpayers. Sorry paco, you lost this land fair and square. This is the United States of America now. We have immigration laws just liek every other nation on the planet, why is it wrong for us to enforce our immigration laws but mexico can enforce theirs? Hypocrites with no dignity. Low class cowards. Leeches. Poor mexicans, what a name you have made for yourselves.

Well well, it looks like Pearce and the Flaccid Fool's influence has rubbed off on Buffoon. Keep in mind that both of them associate with neo-Nazis.

I wonder what Buffoon bought with our tax dollars when he sought out House Speaker Kirk Adams?

Babeu, now is a really good time to disassociate yourself from the public. You are an absolute disgrace. My buddies in Boston told me you were a man of character, honesty and integrity. Now I see the truth. First, you botch the Puroll investigation. Second, you whitewash the MCSO corruption scandal, and now you associate with neo-Nazis?

No, Timmy is too busy with himself (if you know what I mean) after each of his little PR capers. "Look what I did, boss" and then "Oooo, look what else I did!" Besides, Gaffney is just too impatient and proud to have to wait in a line that he is not first in.

While Timmy is busy trying to show WHAT his boss Babeu is doing (challenging task) instead of just saying, Babeu is busy trying to keep WHO he is doing (or has done) out of public sight. Fail! How is the springtime in Chicago, Jason?

Babeu's PR stunt with John Hook was to prepare us to view him as an abuse victim. He knows the gay issues are coming out about him and he wanted a pre-emptive defense ahead of time.

Too little too late, Babeu. The list (of known "associates") is growing and some of those individuals are getting weary of your promises or your threats and just want to move on with their lives. We will start to hear soon from some of them on their own. That one guy (who sold rest of his PCSO and MCSO shoulder patches and the last of his collector Barbie dolls on eBay last year) is still a little reluctant to talk, except about PB promising him a job.

So, Gaffney, probably not one of the many boy toys. Maybe a sign of his orientation: In a hasty email blast his first day on the job as Babeu's PR man (June 2010) Gaffney wrote on a Dennis Wagner (Az Republic) blog that had been somewhat critical of Babeu and Dever. In his spiteful email, Gaffney typed the word "pubic" instead of "public." So there may be hope for the little guy.

Paul was reported seen in the Queen Creek Home Depot the other day. He needs a few more deputies to volunteer for his elite battle detail and he didn't want to have to ask Peter Rios and the BOS, so he was asking the guy in tools about a good, reliable "stud finder."

Come on, Paul, you aren't doing so bad at stud finding yourself. Just one more life skill that you brought into your job as sheriff. Thanks.

You're a friend of the Nazi, right? The more interesting question is how Gaffney came to slip a photo from a Nazi into a statement on PCSO letterhead, and to pass it off as from an official investigation. But as for the photo of Babeu and Hughes together, three months after it was taken, on Aug 23, 2010, Hughes publicly claimed that Babeu knows him on a first-name basis. On Sept 29th he claimed that PCSO "is working with us." You know Hughes. Are you saying he wasn't telling the truth?

Jason Minor

Harry Hughes responds to my comment in a blog post: “In reality, the photo of the ‘Normandy style’ barriers came off my blog. I believe this was clearly stated in the Feathered Bastard's blog. Jason ignored that and wrote some lengthy speculations. Amazingly, people's minds run wild and dismiss already established facts.”

Hughes should reread my comments. I didn’t ignore the evidence that the photo Tim Gaffney used in his letter to the border mayors came off Hughes’ blog (or Facebook galleries). I said as clearly as I could that that’s the only place it could’ve come from, directly or indirectly. I accept that Hughes says he didn’t personally give the photo to Gaffney, so the only remaining alternatives are that Gaffney himself got it from Hughes’ blog (or Facebook galleries), or that he got it from a third party who got it from those places. (Hughes could further elucidate things by reporting when PCSO computers visited his blog.) It’s Gaffney, not me, who had trouble with the facts. (His principal’s testimony yesterday before a US Senate committee touched obliquely on the subject. It didn’t help.) My own view is that the best Gaffney could’ve done once the provenance of the photo became clear would have been to admit that, yes, he’d encouraged a misimpression that Hughes’ photo was PCSO work-product when he wrote that it was “from cases our folks have investigated.” And that, yes, he or someone in whom he put reliance got the photo from -- had been reading -- Hughes’ blog (or Facebook galleries). And that, yes, he larded a bit of Nazi photojournalism onto that highly fraught letter.

But that’s not what Gaffney did, for reasons that are easy enough to figure. But once again, as when he lied about his contacts with the Political Cesspool racists, his maladroitness has made a mockery of that perishable trust that Babeu always talks about holding.

Babeu testified yesterday that he personally took photographs of these same Normandy barriers -- I imagine after Hughes did -- and showed them to Kyl and McCain. (Given his personal interest, I’m surprised he didn’t know that Hughes published the first pictures of them. Until the Arizona Daily Star reported on the barriers in late January, Hughes was the main public source on them.) Given the Keystone Cops atmosphere of PCSO upper management, one can only wonder whether Hughes’ photos got mixed in the portfolio that Babeu presented to the Senators. There’d be a certain poetic justice to it.

Hughes ignored my question whether he stands by his Aug 23, 2010 statement that Babeu knows him on a first-name basis, and his Sept 29, 2010 statement that PCSO “is working with us.” The latter point assumes greater interest in light of Babeu’s seeming March 1, 2011 suggestion that he’s currently extending greater tolerance to racist paramilitary groups than he intends to in the future, when other manpower comes online.

So, your question really is "Why don't Mexican citizens just come to the United States legally?" isn't it? I know you used the term "America" but I think you really meant United States right? You know that Mexico is in "America" already right. If not you are one ignorant pus pile. Canada is also in "America" and so is the United States.

Both North and South America are in the continent "America."

BTW - Mexicans DO come to the United States legally. In fact, far - far more citizens of Mexico visit and work in the United States legally than are here sans the proper immigration status.

What you dumb ass bigoted, rednecks fail to recognize is that these "legal" Mexican citizens come here to visit, spend money, and bring back home memories of all the great people and places they meet here. PLEASE stay on your couch watching whatever trash tv you watch and DO NOT come out to the malls, resorts, stores, workplaces where these people, FROM MEXICO, are LEGALLY spending their money and making our great Arizona economy even better.

You'd just ruin the whole experience for these people and they'd go home, tell their families and friends how unfriendly Arizona is towards visitors and then fewer people would come here. You see, that would hurt our economy - your economy!

So, please, just stop the batshit ignorant comments and realize that our neighbors to the South (and North, and East and West) are more likely to be our friends and economic benefactors than some person you believe (wrongly) will harm you.

I am not threatened by homosexuals the way other people seem to be (on the Left and on the Right). They have already eliminated themselves from the gene pool. They are not reproducing. We are overpopulated on this planet. We are teaming with swarms of unintelligent sub-humans full of libido. Some "gays" and lesbians are actually very pro-White, pro-Gun, pro-Constitution, and pro-Secure our Borders. They donate well and don't usually commit heinous crimes. So why fret over what adults lawfully do in the privacy of their bedrooms? No sweat off of my balls either way. First of all, I use your post as an example not because I didn't like it. You made valid points without using profanity. I'm not casting stones your way.

Word has it that Babeu has an excellent memory. He should remember me because he has facilitated the release of one of my firearms from evidence, has my emails forwared to him by Pinal County Board of Supervisors and have met face to face and shook hands. Many of his deputies, especially on "Edward" beat know me even better. Many of them have dropped in on my NSM parties. On official business of course. I have never crossed paths with Louie P.

I happen to get the photographs I get because I have the ambition to get out of the truck and walk. That's something I rarely see the BP, BLM and PCSO doing while I'm out in the field. I'm not knocking them either. I know their political bosses prevent them from being as efficient as they can be. Two years ago, there was zero L. E. in our A.O.

The Tea Baggers do have a psychological complex with denying "racism". However, with the Jewish media making "racists" out to be worse than mass murders (if I had of only shot ten people...), it is no wonder they get the convoluted stance they do. The reality is, immigration is all about race. Despite what they adamantly say. They either can not articulate their argument, cave in to the Jewish pressure, or are too cowardly to say publicly what they say in private (like Russell Pearce). It is no coincidence Russell has a Nazi-tatted skinhead son who is a felon btw.

I am just more forthright about it. I have a plethora of reasons why I do not want Mexicans to infest my land. And why I do not want to see the White race go extinct. Or why the Jews get by with genocide against Whites by screaming Nazi! every other breath. No free pass here. So the next time a Tea Bagger says it is all about "the law", remind them that amnesty is a perfectly "lawful" way of annexing fifty million brown skinned mongrels into our society. Their hero Reagan did it. And when they protest this fact anyway, remind them that Europeans had no real legal mandate to come here in the first place either. But we did.

Hardly off base. I am right on the mark with my above statement. The Left is rife with tolerating all types of anti-White hate mongers, anarchists, ANTFA terrorists, and Weather Underground domestic terrorists amongst its company without so much as batting a eye in disagreement with these criminals. And the Left is especially guilty in embracing hate groups such as the morally bankrupt ADL and the totally discredited SPLC. http://harpers.org/archive/201... While the Tea Party may get an occasional wing nut or neo-Nazi hanger on, they are quick to self-regulate and police their own ranks of any questionable individual.
