Russell Pearce: None of Us Are Citizens of the United States, Also Five Immigration Bills Will Not Be Reconsidered

Can someone please tell this crank about the night they drove ol' Dixie down?

As I blogged recently, the main concern of the pro-immigrant side after the defeat of five anti-immigrant bills last week in the state Senate was that under Senate rules, someone who voted against the measures could move that the bills be reconsidered.

This would've had to happen today. It didn't. So the Senate bills dealing with birthright citizenship, making school officials and hospital workers into de facto ICE agents, and Senate President Russell Pearce's immigration omnibus blockbuster SB 1611, are dead in their current forms.

Pearce could revive them as strike-everything amendments, perhaps even move to put them on the state ballot, but he'd have to flip enough GOP nays to yeas to move them through the Senate.

State Senator Kyrsten Sinema said she thought Pearce might try to do some strikers -- so called because they strike all existing language in a bill and replace it with entirely new language -- but on different immigration bills, not these five. She told me she believes the filthy five to be kaput in the Senate.

There are House versions of the birthright citizenship bills, HB 2562 and HB 2561, both sponsored by state Representative John Kavanagh. But so far, neither one has been assigned to committees, and word is that House Speaker Kirk Adams is not friendly to the proposals.

Similarly, Pearce-lackey and state Representative Carl Seel is sponsoring HB 2505 and HB 2179, legislation requiring schools to "count" undocumented kids. Both seem permanently stalled.

Still, I do not think Pearce will take this laying down. Not only is he likely to attempt some striker bills in the Senate, but he and his Tea Party, hate-immigrant allies will target those recalcitrant Senate Republicans in the 2012 primaries.

On another Pearce-related note, the ThinkProgress blog just posted a snippet of a speech given by Pearce at a Tea Party rally in Oceanside, California on October, 10 of last year. In his most Confederate-sounding statement to date, Pearce asserts that none of us are citizens of the United States. Instead we are citizens of the respective states wherein we reside.

Will someone please send this idgit a copy of the U.S. Constitution and Ken Burns' PBS documentary series The Civil War? And while you're at it, tell this treacherous so-and-so that the Union won.

Well, now it's out. RuSSell Pearce and Glenn Spencer were right. The great conspiracy to reclaim the southwest for Mexico has been exposed at last - by ace detective and super substitute teacher Tony Hill. We know this because the aforementioned Mr. Tony Hill has concluded that most of the Hispanic students he encountered in classrooms in Glendale's schools hate America! They want to be gangstas. They refused to stand for the pledge of allegiance! They told him that they are (mostly) illegal aliens and that the U.S. stole their land!!

Gasp! And we know this is true because RuSSell Pearce says it is true!

Based on the investigation that was conducted by Glendale schools officials, one can only conclude that Mr. Hill is either a pathological liar, mentally ill, a right-wing political fanatic or all of the above. He has no business being around kids. One can also safely conclude that RuSSell Pearce is either a pathological liar, mentally ill, a right-wing political fanatic or all of the above. And he also has no business being around kids.

So if we are not considered to be citizens of the United States, why is he so upset because some students allegedly would not stand and pledge allegiance to a country none of us belong to???

Tommy Collins

You make a point, however if I had moved to France and was hoping to spend the rest of my life there and eventually become a citizen I would certainly make their pledges part of my assimilation process. Each person coming into the country, legally or not, should have a life goal of what they want to achieve as part of becoming a part of the country.

That's the ideal.

Maybe you should set some goals and start toward achieving them, and make the pledge of allegiance to you new country, in which you are living, part of the assimilation process.

The latest race slander from RuSSell Pearce:

PHOENIX — Arizona’s Senate president is refusing to apologize to lawmakers who say he circulated a factually suspect letter about Hispanic students during a debate in hopes of getting his immigration bill passed.

The letter that substitute teacher Tony Hill wrote to Sen. Russell Pearce says a majority of the eight-grade students who he taught at an unnamed suburban Glendale school recently refused to say the Pledge of Allegiance and declared that “We are Mexicans and Americans stole our land.”

The letter also says most Hispanic students don’t want to be educated and would rather be gang members.

Republican Sen. Lori Klein of Anthem read the letter aloud Thursday as the Senate considered illegal immigration legislation.

Democratic Sen. Steve Gallardo of Phoenix has questioned the veracity of the letter.

1.) Refusing to say the Pledge of Allegiance is neither a crime nor is it an indication that one doesn't value American citizenship. I don't practice flag worship either, but I have taken the oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States on numerous occasions and take that oath seriously. I was an eighth grade social studies teacher in Nogales, and the only kid in my classes (90-plus percent of Mexican ancestry) over the years who didn't participate in the flag salute was a Jehovah's Witness. It was a great teachable moment about First Amendment rights.

2.) This supposed substitute teacher sends a letter to Pearce saying that students told him "We are Mexicans and Americans stole our land?" That's some CRAZY shit!! Americans of Mexican ancestry volunteer for the armed forces in higher numbers relative to their population share than do Anglos. If you visit Douglas or Nogales today, you will see two items in the windows of homes or on doors: La Virgen de Guadalupe and the U.S. flag.

3.) Here's my take on what happened to Mr. Tony Hill - he is a tea-bagger, with poor classroom management skills and zero understanding and appreciation of 13-year-olds and even less understanding and appreciation of the local culture. He failed in the classroom and now he blames the kids for his failures. In doing so, he has slandered a culture.

Here's my challenge to you, Mr. Hill (if that is indeed your name): Substantiate your charges. What school did this allegedly take place in, what was the date when it happened? Which class or classes? Did you report your complaints to the administration? You have made unsupported accusations that make you out to be a whining liar and the butt-boy of RuSSell Pearce.

Mistalee
Mistalee

"We are Mexicans and Americans stole our land?"

It's also fairly accurate. Yeah, we paid 'em afterward and called it "the Gadsden purchase" but give me a freakin' break, it was a land grab.

mikefrombisbee
mikefrombisbee

You have put two separate events together. The invasion of Mexico and subsequent occupation by U.S. forces until Nicholas Trist obtained the Mexican government's signature transferring ownership of what is now most of the southwestern U.S. took place from 1846-1848. That land grab, which was dignified as the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, gave the U.S. all of California, most of present-day Arizona, New Mexico and parts of Utah and Colorado as I remember.

The Gadsden purchase was completed in 1854 and essentially included the parts of Arizona and New Mexico located below the Gila River, east of the Colorado and west of the Rio Grande. That was the region known locally at the time as "Arizona." The Gadsden Purchase was done with the approval of the Mexican government to refill a depleted treasury.

Not surprised
Not surprised

And let's hear from the principal, the permanent teacher, the students and their parents. Let's see their torn books and the papers they wrote that day.

US War Veteran

The funny thing is MikeFB, none of the school districts around Glendale (where this idiot claims was teaching) have any record of a teacher with that name in recent years, imagine that, does the term "false flag" ring a bell?

US War Veteran
US War Veteran

UPDATE: "The Glendale Elementary School District released a statement confirming that Hill was a substitute on March 8 for an eighth-grade reading, writing and social studies teacher at Harold W. Smith Elementary School. Hill is not one of GESD's regular substitutes, but works for a substitute-teacher placement service.

The district said after speaking with students, the statements Hill made in his letter in regard to their students were not accurate. The district plans to continue to investigate Hill's claims."

I guess that makes him a substitute's substitute, or a 3rd String Bench Warmer (LOL, sorry guys it was too funny to pass up). If it was one of my kids in that class I would slap this wanna-be teacher with a law suit for defamation, not that I expect any compensation from this unemployed moron but to teach him a very basic lesson on the laws of physics: "Every action has a reaction"

US War Veteran
US War Veteran

So it would seem the school has determined this wanna-be lied, also, I read his letter, he claims the students ripped pages and destroyed books, Question: where are the destroyed books and why he did not report that to the school, after all at the end of the class he has to provide a signed copy of a daily report, a report which was surprisingly blank, given "all of the problems" he had with this class, you would figure he had to at least report destruction of school property. This is how you spell Tony Hill in Spanish: BULLSHITTER!

mikefrombisbee
mikefrombisbee

This guy has no business in a classroom. This story sounds completely contrived. It has all the appearance of a Glenn Spencer wet dream. It is so weird as to make me believe he is either mentally ill or working as an operative for the tea-baggers or both. The school district needs to investigate this incident completely and once completed, issue a report. The teacher will have lesson plans and the students can all be questioned. There are far too many children (and they do make very good witnesses at that age) for any inconsistencies in his story to stand up. If this person used his 1-day experience in the classroom to further a political agenda, the State Superintendent of Public Instruction needs to make sure he never sets foot in a classroom as a substitute teacher again. He needs to lose his license. If he was lying he needs to lose his license. And if he used kids to further his political agenda he needs to have his ass whipped by some dads.

There is also a possibility that he went into the classroom to push his agenda, baiting the kids. If so, that would probably qualify as unprofessional conduct.

I still believe that he is a likely a poor substitute teacher who lost control of the classroom and now it's payback time.

Can someone from New Times look into this goober's history and see what he has done in other classrooms?

Remember, ChriSSy Simcox was a teacher. What kind of agenda do you think HE would have promoted in a classroom?

US War Veteran
US War Veteran

And speaking of actions/reactions, assuming that in some pink world traitor pearce gets his wish and all undocumented children leave Arizona, that only means class sizes would become smaller, less children=less teachers, being that the case what would be the chances then that a 3rd. String Bench Warmer like tony hill will ever put on the uniform and play first string? that just goes to show you how stupid and narrow minded this tea baggers are, hell even my 6 year old daughter has more common sense.

mikefrombisbee
mikefrombisbee

I believe his story is total bullshit and I dare this person (if RuSSell didn't make up the whole story) to come forward and back up the aforementioned bullshit story.

Enemy of Evil Bastards
Enemy of Evil Bastards

In a way we are all guilty of allowing these self-serving idiots to get to where they are. Basically it amounts to us letting evil call itself Christian. We need to stop calling these people Christian and refer to them as moral, with the understanding that morality is nothing more than an evil infestation, a plague, or more to the point, a demonic possession of the soul. These people do everything contrary to Christ, and yet, like robots, we continue to call them Christian. We need to recognize evil and deal with it in those terms. Pearce and his lot could care less about the United States. Tea baggers will destroy this union if we allow them to.

So, when is Arizona going to start issuing passports? Are there going to be Arizona embassies on each of the Indian Reservations? Are they going to sign basing agreements for Luke AFB, Davis-Monthan, and Ft.Huachuca?

Of course there won't be anymore Federal highway dollars but that is small price for being independent. I wonder if the State will but up a border fence from Yuma up to Needles, gotta keep out the Californians.

Wow, quite a thread. Seems maybe pearce is not well liked among those of us who post on the pages of this fine blog.

I think it's especially telling that pearce made a public statement that he is NOT a U.S. citizen, yet he is required to be as a qualification to be elected to a state office. Hmmmmm...

Like a very bad case of acne the face of pearce is showing it's incredible personality dysfunctions with more and more color and clarity as each day passes by.

USWV, you make a very good point, and it's one I've not really considered until now. Pearce is not simply an enemy of our state and the many very fine people here, both citizens (U.S) and visitors. He is, indeed, becoming a valid threat to the stability of our country and OUR LEGISLATORS need to do something about him, before he has the chance to do some very real damage.

Imagine, if you will, the damage a state senator can do on a national basis when we see what one sniveling county sheriff from Arizona has been able to do on a national basis over the the course of eighteen years of self aggrandizement and popular promotion.

Yes, he needs to be at the top of every one of our lists. With arpaio, brewer, kavanaugh, klein and many others following....

Pearce must have known that his bills were as doomed as the Titanic because he could not get them reconsidered. Smart move on the politicians with brains in their heads.

BTW, how can NO ONE be a United States citizen when people like Pearce were BORN in the United States? Does that make Pearce an illegal alien of Arizona, unable to hold office?

On another positive note, even if Pearce and his delusional cohorts wanted to pass their birthright citizenship laws to trigger a review of the 14th Amendment, it is highly likely that the U.S. Supreme Court would reject it flat-out.

Mr. Montgomery, Mr. Horne, Mr. Burke and Mr. Holder, where the fuck are you?! Why the fuck am I paying you a 6 (and 7)-figure salary?! Do I not pay you to ENFORCE the law?! Get off your asses and get this sick old man fucking indicted!!!
