Russell Pearce's Son Joshua Pearce, and His Other Run-Ins with the Law

State Senate President Russell Pearce: Sins of the father, visited upon the son?

The Mesa Police Department has released more reports on its run-ins with state Senator Russell Pearce's son Joshua. A report I blogged about earlier today dealt with allegations concerning possible child abuse in a December 10, 2010 incident involving Joshua Pearce's infant daughter.

You can read that report, here. I've also reported previously on Joshua's previous conviction for extreme DUI, for which he caught five years probation. His baby son was in the vehicle with him at the time.

Of the new police reports, one deals with an alleged domestic violence incident from 2003, where Joshua and his girlfriend at the time traded blows. Joshua's girlfriend then was not his current wife Samantha, but a woman named Stephanie.

On October 5, 2005, Joshua Pearce was arrested in an incident where he allegedly fled police and drove through a red light. According to the report, this was after a fight at a Filiberto's with two Hispanic males. Joshua claimed he was attacked by the two men. One of the men told police Joshua attacked them first.

No racial slurs were exchanged, according to the report.

Joshua was booked on several charges: extreme DUI (his blood alcohol level was 0.15); unlawful flight from law enforcement; and assault. The Mesa cop found a glass pipe with residue in the car, and a urinalysis detected THC. According to one police officer, "Joshua said he smokes as much marijuana as he can get..."

I'm not clear on what the result of this incident was. I know that court documents made mention of this DUI, but I don't see a conviction for it in the court record, much less for the rest of the charges. Perhaps they were dropped. I do know that when Joshua was stopped in 2006, he was driving on a suspended license.

More troubling is an October 8, 2005 incident involving Samantha's son by another man, who was then two years old.

Mesa PD responded to a call from Banner Desert Hospital. The child's left femur was broken, there were abrasions on the child's face, bruises throughout the body, and a hematoma on the left side of the skull.

The officer's narrative described Samantha as having a "nonchalant" attitude. Samantha told the cop that she had left the child with an "old friend," one she had not seen for a long time named "Justin,"and that she had let Justin babysit the kid for her. She claimed Justin later called her at work to tell her that the two-year-old had fallen down a flight of stairs.

Justin then supposedly brought the child to Samantha's workplace, and Samantha transported the child to the hospital.

According to the report, Samantha did not know where Justin lived, his last name, or how to get in touch with him. She said her boyfriend Joshua Pearce gave the boy to Justin during a rendezvous at the local Circle K.

Joshua backed up Samantha's story to the Mesa police. The police pulled video from the Circle K for the day in question, but could find no evidence to corroborate Samantha's story.

I should point out that Russell Pearce has a son named Justin, but the police report does not mention him, nor is there any indication he was involved in any way.

Ultimately, the detective assigned to the case closed it, turning the information over to Child Protective Services.

The detective wrote,

"In conclusion I find that Samantha's explanations are suspect at best and Joshua's explanation of turning [the child] over to Justin then picking him up later is false. As it did not happen at the Circle K as Joshua described, per the videotape.  Also [the child's] injuries are inconsistent with falling down a flight of concrete stairs.

"Because of this, I can only conclude that both Samantha and Joshua are hiding or covering something up. However, without additional information or witnesses, I cannot prove how [the child] got injured."

Arizona is one hell of a lot more fun to watch from a safe distance. Every day something happens to make me glad I left.

Russell Pearce (his son, Joshua is an interesting study), Joe Arpaio, Janice Brewer and Ken Bennett - Pearce and Bennett are Mormons - no wonder Arizona has become a laughingstock.  And don't forget that when the murderer/whack-job, J. T. Ready, was baptized into the Mormon Church, another WACKO was present - Karen Johnson.  The voters in this state need to wake up - before it's too late.

Wow!!!!! I totally understand why Russell Pearce is lodging his attack on the Hispanic Community; trying to change the Constitution of The United States of America that's over 200 years old. One look at Russell Pearce's son (Joshua Pearce) and I can see his Eagle Tattoo on his neck speaks volumes of the kind of home where he was raised. This is proabably where he learned to hate. The saying is true, "The apple does not fall far from the tree." If you want to have a good laugh, go to Russell Pearce's website, where you can see how he is Sherriff Joe Arapaio's biggest supporter against the Latino community. Pearce and Arapaio are using their positions to fuel the hate towards the Latino community. I urge everyone to vote and get these two guys out of power before we regress to the days in our country's history when a person was hated and discriminated for the color of their skin/ national origin. We have come so far... let us not go backward, but forward so we can all live in peace. Remember the Golden Rule. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Vote Vote Vote!!!! Recall!, Recall!

Just more anti-Christian rhetoric from the Lemons, for whom no gutter is too low so long as it helps him get his sworn enemies. (Remind you of someone, say Joe Arpaio?)

Mocking the faithful by asking "Sins of the father, visited upon the son," the Bible actually provides for him the answer.

(Deuteronomy 24:16) - "Fathers shall not be put to death for their sons, nor shall sons be put to death for their fathers."(Ezekiel 18:20) - "The person who sins will die. The son will not bear the punishment for the father’s iniquity, nor will the father bear the punishment for the son’s iniquity;"

Lemons problem is that Pearce keeps winning and Lemons keeps losing, so Lemons goes against all logic to try to smear the father with the allegations of bad conduct of the son.

Not only is this bad journalism, it is also hypocrisy of the highest order. When writing about Arpaio and the deplorable conditions of his jails, Lemons loves to remind us that most held there are innocent until proven guilty and deserve fair treatment. Here, Lemons takes allegations of conduct that did not even lead to arrest and tries to use them against a third-party.

Which is it Lemons, are we to respect "innocent until proven guilty" when it applies to those arrested, but not yet convicted of child molestation, yet ignore it if we can get a good shot in at a political rival?

Lemons is a hack. And while Pearce is scum, the PhoenixNewTimes is a discredit to journalism for having run this trash.

It concerns me that Mesa PD has encountered this couple twice in cases where children were battered and they couldn't prove who did it. It makes no sense. How about the mother who lied in the first incident with her 2 year old? Wasn't she at least obstructing justice or something? Why does no one want to deal with Russell Pearce's son? How many children have to have broken bones, be brain damaged or killed by the son and his wife for Mesa PD to act? Where has Child Protective Services in all this? Are all these people afraid for their jobs if they cross Russell Pearce? I can't believe, if this were any other couple, they would not have been arrested.

And Russell Pearce still ignores any comment on this? What a hypocrite.

Typical Sandbilly behavior. The Pearce's belong locked up in a private prison and guarded only by personnel with Brown skin and short tempers.

"Which is it Lemons, are we to respect "innocent until proven guilty" when it applies to those arrested, but not yet convicted of child molestation, yet ignore it if we can get a good shot in at a political rival?"... in Arizona there is "no presumption of innocence" at time of arrest because of laws created by Pearce. It's only fitting he gets treated the same. The individual in Arizona has no rights.

Why? A naked declaration void of fact or argument is not worth much.

I don't know if he is, or isn't, but if he is I'd like to know the facts to back up such a claim.

I would like to see your parents comment on your birth MORON! Your parents must be the biggest dumb asses on earth! Why you were not considered for abortion? Why do they feel you have to have a need to be around young children? What hypocrites!!!!

I can only conclude that your parents are hiding or covering something up. However, without additional information or witnesses, I cannot prove how you became a MORON.

Or maybe we should not look to blame parents for the actions of our adult children. Stupid hateful progressive MORONS!!!!!

You're as big an idiot as any of the Tea Party loons. People like you, who bend like clay to the unsubstantiated claims of an Internet hack, make me fear for my country.

It used to be the fourth estate operated as an unofficial check on the powerful. Now the powerful press needs someone checking it on it.

That's why I love organizations like MediaMatters.org. They don't tolerate crappy, revenge-based journalism and neither should you.

The presumption of innocence is in the Constitution and still applies.

That said, perhaps Pearce is a hypocrite in how he treats those accused of crimes and how he now wants to keep this a family affair.

Are you any less a hypocrite for saying it's okay to deny Pearce his privacy while demanding it for others.

The tough part of taking the higher road is that, well, you have to behave better than those oppose. So which do you choose, rolling in the gutter with Lemons and Pearce, or walking above the fray, acting true to your convictions?

It is an easy choice for me.

Only a complete fool would believe the majority of parents would not feel shame and total disgust with themselves for having raised such a pathetic excuse for a man as Joshua Pearce. My husband and I raised a son and we repeatedly talked with (not to or at) him about the kind of man he wanted to be when he grew up. Guess what? Nothing about our adult son parallels the behavior of Joshua Pearce. So, speaking as a successful parent, "Yes, we are as responsible for raising a decent man as we would be if we had raised an indecent man."

kit carson
kit carson

exactly what the fat bastard, champion of yellow journalism, wants you to think.

If one did not know the pure hate Lemons holds for the father, one would have to ask "what was the point of this article?"

Lemons reaches no conclusion, makes no linkage between the father and how the PD treats the son, it's just a cowardly attack by an increasingly disreputable hack reporter.

Pearce, the poppa, is bad for Arizona. Lemons is bad for those in Arizona who actually care enough to read. At this point, no one can trust anything Lemons writes about Pearce, his hate has so badly clouded his judgement. A shame, recently, because just as a broken clock is right twice a day, so too Lemons might actually blindly stumble upon a real story regarding Pearce, and none will believe him.

Mistalee
Mistalee

Lemons is not a judge, and the New Times is not a criminal court of law.

So your comments have no relevance.

Pearce and his family are public figures. Joshua Pearce has a history of arrests for child abuse, and arguably, driving drunk with an infant in the car, for which he was convicted, is ALSO child abuse.

kit carson
kit carson

Complete logic fail.

Just because you CLAIM success as a parent, I doubt you would similarly claim responsibility for a failure of a child.

I know many great people who did everything they could, and still had bad kids.

It's easy for the self-righteous who don't have a troubled child to look down at others, but that only increases the contempt society places upon them, not the troubled parents. I don't know what faith you hold, if any, but I suggest pray for forgiveness.
