Jared Lee Loughner Uber Alles? More Debate on Gun Nuttery

Ray, you ignorant...oh, never mind...

I've posted my latest riposte to my colleague Ray Stern's passionate defense of Second Amendment gun nuttery, here in Valley Fever.

It's a response to Ray's response to my response to his original opinion piece, in which he casually used bogus straw man arguments to score points.

This is getting to be a lot like the old "Point/Counterpoint" segments on 60 Minutes, or Saturday Night Live's spoof of it.

For the record, in this debate, despite the left-right labels, I'm Dan Akroyd and Ray is Jane Curtin. Sorry, Ray, I called dibbs.

For those unfamiliar with SNL's original cast, I give you the above classic bit.

Now THAT'S Comedy writing. The stuff Stern puts out is just depressing.

DODO BIRD is the ignorant slut. Ray Stern is the only good writer this commie filth rag has.

It should be every man, women and childs responsability to be armed at all times. Thats the way it was in the wild west and they never had any illegals or shootings.

(sorry, accidentially hit the "like" button) Chem Trail Karen, this is an example of the hated rhetoric you regularly spew. Thanks for honoring the memory of those died in Tucson. You just can't stop.

Chem Trail Karen, this is an example of the hateful and personal attack rhetoric you regularly spew in Stephen Lemon's blog. Thanks for honoring the memory of those died in Tucson, where there was an outcry to tone down the hateful rhetoric and personal attacks. You just can't seem to stop. Is this a sign of mental illness?

Comparing motor vehicle deaths with gun deaths:

About 1/2 of gun deaths are suicides, if you aren't suicidale your risk dropped by 50%. Motor vehicle risk remains about the same.

If you don't have an abusive or jealous spouse, don't live in the ghetto and don't engage in a live of violent crime your risk plummeted again.

Gun deaths are almost entirely a risk that you can avoid by simple lifestyle choices. While you can reduce risk on the highway by using seat belts, not driving drunk and being a careful driver your risk can't be reduced nearly as much as your risk of death by firearms can be.

Now if we compare the number of deaths due to obesity or smoking they tend to really dwarf gun deaths, we have a misplaced fear of guns and not enough fear of being fatties.

You joker's at the New Time's are so busy heckling your fellow writer's. How old are you exactly? I have no writing "expierence" and no college degree, How about a job? I am still confident I can do it better then you

Plur333, It's called public debate. That's what the public needs to hear more of. The powerful gun lobbyists control Arizona and the politicians whom they pay. Let's hear from both sides. We welcome the debate so we can judge for ourselves.

If you had gone to college you might know you were not supposed to have an apostrophe in the plural context of "jokers".

Not really. It's "better than" not "better then." It's "New Times," not "New Time's," "writers" not "writer's," "experience" not "expierence."

Keep your day job. Unless you were trying to approximate a redneck. In which case you can join Jeff Foxworthy on tour.
