Russell Pearce, Bigot, Claims President Will Need "Papers" to Visit Arizona
Pearce tells a bigot-boy joke at a Judicial Watch panel on immigration
Chalk up another racist remark from Sand Land's neo-Nazi-hugging state Senate President-elect Russell Pearce.
In D.C. to attend the oral arguments on Arizona's employer sanctions law before the U.S. Supreme Court, he stopped by to visit his far-right wingnut pals at Judicial Watch, the think tank that regularly sues folks who just happen to oppose Judicial Watch's nativist agenda.
Sitting next to J.W. prez Thomas Fitton, Pearce let this racially-charged joke fly:
"The best thing about 1070 is that Obama may not be visiting Arizona because we actually require papers now."
Many in the room, including Fitton, chuckled along.
Wonder if they tell n-word jokes behind closed doors?
Because, you know, Obama can't be a real citizen, because, you know, he's black.
And of course, some wackjobs think he's a Muslim, and that he doesn't have a Hawaiian birth-certificate, even though the State of Hawaii has repeatedly put this shibboleth to rest.
See, it's cracker rednecks like Pearce who get to decide who is or is not an American citizen. Or so they think.
Recently, Pearce suggested that Obama had a "jihad" against America and Arizona, and that Obama should be impeached because the U.S. Justice Department has challenged his breathing-while-brown statute, Senate Bill 1070, in court.
Which is not surprising considering Pearce's ties to extremists, sending out an anti-Semitic e-mail from a white nationalist group to supporters, and so on.
What I like about Pearce is that he basically cannot hide what he is: a bigoted jerk who should be wearing a white hood over his head and burning a cross in his backyard.
When I first called J.W. flack Jill Farrell to ask her why Fitton laughed, she hung up on me.
So I called her back. She told me people could watch the full conference on J.W.'s YouTube site and make up their own minds.
I grew up in the South around dumb rednecks, many of whom liked to tell n-word jokes.
Inevitably when this occurred, some people would laugh along. Others would frown, or go so far as to tell the guy he was an idiot.
I was in the last category. I guess we know what category Mr. Fitton is in.
More on Fitton next week. I had a long and feisty conversation with the man before this latest gaffe by Pearce. And he too hung up me, because he didn't like the questions I was asking.
So, you see, these guys are not only wingnut wackos. They're also pathetic cowards.
P.S. Interestingly, in the audience was Peter Brimelow, the white nationalist who heads up VDARE.com, which the Southern Poverty Law Center describes as "an immigrant bashing hate site."
The organization's named after Virginia Dare, the first baby born in the Americas to English (read, "white") parents. Brimelow asks a question of Pearce towards the end of the session.
It's about 55 minutes into the Judicial Watch video. Naturally, Pearce and Brimelow agree that there should be a moratorium on legal immigration.
