John McCain Protester Liz Hourican Tackled by LEO in CNN Video

I'm on deadline today, so I won't have time to suss this out till later, but this CNN video of peace activist Liz Hourican being tackled by law enforcement is disturbing for a couple of reasons.

The first is that, based on what's in the video, there was no need for such force, as Hourican had already been pushed back by others, so why tackle her?

The second is that Hourican, a veteran activist, is hardly a threat to anybody. Indeed, she's well-known by the folks at the Phoenix PD's Community Response Squad, who've never had issues with her to my knowledge.

She may be rambunctious, but that is her prerogative. And the First Amendment protects her like a Kevlar vest. Moreover, Senator McCain is an elected official, and his constituents have the right to protest him without being manhandled.

I'll look into this when I can and report back. I don't want to make snap judgments, but I am, obviously, very concerned by this footage. There's already a Facebook page associated with the incident, which you can look at, here.

Liz, he's in for a 5th term so all your McCain protests were for naught. When is Johnny going to invite you to a peace pow-wow in his Arizona desert teepee and get your differences settled once and for all?

The police officer in fact choked the shit out of me while tumbling over taking me to the ground. I am peacefully getting an anti wars & corporate self interests type message out and would never want to get hurt. My job is speak truth to corporate sellout that hurt Arizona like Brewer McCAin Kyl Brenda Burns Gary Pierce Hendershott Shadegg and many many other poor stewards of lovely Arizona! He broke my camera too!!

It's obvious he was pushing her backwards and she lost her balance. Notice the sidewalk they were on and the parking lot she got pushed into.

Sh wasnt tackled, the bitch fell down. And had she not got into the faces of others, and tried running them over, and been a respectful protestor instead of an ass, she might not be in this predicament.

You're probably the same jackass who can't understand natural thought processes who wrote to my blog and videos claiming I caused the GOP to throw me out, when the ONLY question I had asked Kelly Ayotte pertained to her own conduct on Immigration when she said no to an Arpaio style "tresspassing" Racial profiling initiative.

But now she will do anything to get into office, flip flopping on global warming, Immigration and lying to cover up the Franconia Shooting Tragedy.

Tool.

Bullshit, she was taken down, and then the man who took her down proceeded to pin her there with his knee. If she had "fallen", and him with her, it would not have been such a controlled situation.

Read reply to my original comment, she tripped over the curb and yes was being legally restrained.

And on a related note, this is how I'm handling the GOP/Kelly Ayotte folks who have twice threatened me with arrest:

I go right back to the same City Attorney who said I was right 3 years ago.....

KingCast formal complaint to Nashua PD and City Attorney regarding Kelly Ayotte/GOP First Amendment abuse.

http://www.wepapers.com/Papers....

When I show up, you keep your fucking hands off of me, and you keep your mouth shut until spoken to, unless you need to "good afternoon, Mr. King."

The bullshit has got to stop, same way I stopped it 3 years ago. I'm breaking out the Kawsaki in half an hour and heading on up to Nashua from Boston.'Nuff said.

It gets better..... or worse:Update: Nashua GOP Treasure Dan Richardson is a complete asshat:

Christopher King to Danielshow details 8:03 AM (2 minutes ago)You can call me whatever you want to call me, but I was right the first time when idiots like you said the same thing, and it's not a threat, it's a simple request for a legal opinion, which is my right to request, the last time I checked.

Are you aware of any law to the contrary, you stupid jackass?-The KingCaster.

The sheer barbarity of the Repugnant Party. A brutal politiKKKal culture at its best. Caught on tape for all to bear witness, indeed.

Personally, I believe she was in the wrong based on these facts:1) She is on private property and more than likely KTVK did not allow protesters on their property. (Criminal Trespass 3rd degree, 13-1503)2) She clearly was attempting to block McCain and party and was diverted by the woman in the white blazer. She then moved and again clearly tried again to block McCain and party again. This impedes upon McCain's liberty of free movement, specifically because it was a political function(Kidnapping 13-1301, 13-1304(5) )Everyone has the right to protest, but it should be done peacefully and WITHIN THE LAW. The off duty police officer has every right to prevent the continuation of a crime, just because she had her arms up holding a sign, doesn't mean she has the right to stop a person to freely move about.I do not support McCain, Candy Andy, Joe or his gang and have many of the same beliefs as the protester, but again this is a prime example exploiting an individual who was breaking the law and calling them the victim all in the name of a "cause" or "free speech"Get real folks, and you too Stephen, she was wrong and you are blowing this out of proportion. Just because you don't believe in McCain or his policies, doesn't give you the right to ignore the facts.

1) There were obviously more people on this provate property than just her. Did the rest all have formal invitations?2) By this logic, I can sue everybody at the mall who gets in my way. She didn't impede McCain's freedom of movement at all.

Sorry, this was completely out of line. Getting her out of the way is one thing, but tackling her and pinning her with a knee? Give me a break.

As for the video on KingCast with the title that "McCain has woman tackled', or whatever it was exactly, that's just as out of line. Obviously McCain didn't order someone to clothesline this woman.

KingCast
KingCast

I didn't title the video, however the argument could be made that he gave imprimatur to those actions, same way Kelly Ayotte gave same to the GOP thugs who threatened my arrest on two different occasions.....

Just sayin'

Mike and Baxter,1) It doesn't matter if others were there or not, it is about her actions, not the others.2) You can sue anyone for anything, however the logic is that it is her intent and deliberate actions that is what makes this different than someone not paying attention in the mall.3) She tripped over the curb, look at the video closely, the police officer was actually supporting her during the fall to avoid a harsh impact.4) Yes that is how you restrain someone, using what is called "soft hands", it is one of the levels of force a police officer is trained to do based on the level of threat the individual poses to them and others.

She was out of line and again the blown out of proportion. No I don't support McCain and disagree with his policies, but again protest properly and within the law. Just be rational, is that so hard?

but tackling the woman? over the top. she was out of Emperor McCain's way already. no tackling required

Hope she sues !

Sometimes stuff like this gets blown out of porportion and someone claims tackle when all it was was a push out of the way.

Not in this case. Whoever tackled this woman and took her to the ground was completely out of line. She had already been moved by people with minimal force, she didn't have a weapon in the open, and wasn't making any kind of move to indicate that she was moving for a weapon. Hell, she had both hands in the air, holding her sign.

A classy politician would have gone over and made sure she was ok, even if she was a protester. I used to think McCain had some class until about 2 years ago. I now have no respect for the man.

Coz
Coz

That's the problem right there, McCain has no class.

On the side
On the side

McCain has no class, you have no right to speech in his eyes (you peasant), he had his goons and someone had a camera. A camera; balances things out a little, doesn't it.
