They had actually dared the Old Goat to arrest them and he chose not to. So, it really depends on how much 'positive' press he can get from an arrest, not the crime itself.

He had a different look and a perplexed manner about him when most of the protest was anti-AARPaio. His same old rehearsed lines were not responsive to the unfriendly questions and he sort of tried this and that, but failed. I could even see him bringing the riot squad out there to clear the children from their school in the name of security. In Henderplump's prime, that could have been a possibility. Honestly, this was more threatening to the old man than the $1M text message bounty that the drug cartels put on him. I certainly could not participate in such an assassination operation because 1. I am not that type of guy; and 2. The text message authorizing the open contract did not include invoicing information to get the $1M after the job is done.

AARPaio has big problems when he gets a little off his scripted and rehearsed lines. I am surprised he did not scream out for "Lisa!"

Giving the MCSO investigation to Babeu keeps politics out of it. You know, the politics that happen when an agency has a boss such as the DPS having a boss, the Governor? Babeu does not have a boss? Therefore, he does not have any oversight? Real warm feeling I am getting about this Joe. Is that what AARPaio is saying by reference about MCSO? No oversight at MCSO? Seems that way. I guess any investigation that has a "boss" involved is political? Like the FBI and DoJ investigations?

While Babeu's assignment of the MCSO corruption cases has the appearance of a major conflict and any results will be difficult to trust, Babeu has got to be looking at the political ramifications here. There is bad blood between AARPaio and Babeu over the McCain endorsement. Would Babeu even endorse AARPaio in 2012?

I still don't trust Babeu in the MCSO matters. Think of the political capital in toppling "America's Toughest Sheriff." Would Babeu have his sights set on the benefits of a "successful" investigation? I don't trust him, but I am anxious to see this play out.

I think at this point, AARPaio is wounded and his political power will decline. With the devastating intimidation from MCSO exposed and Henderblimp all but out, the power of MCSO may not ever be as strong as it was (here's to hoping).

One could make a case that Babeu will protect AARPaio. One could make a case that Babeu will go after AARPaio. I hope and hold my breath that Babeu will go after the complete truth and that he and his investigators will have unrestricted access to MCSO in order to get at the truth.

I would hope that they can get at Hendershott's off county (AOL, I think) email that has been used for official business. Perhaps a bounty on email from Dave would bring some juicy stuff into the investigation. Why would Henderpork use an AOL email account for business? To escape oversight, of course. Of course, we all know that Sheriff's don't have bosses according to AARPaio. I would bet money that Hendershott's home or personal computer(s) have been expensed to MCSO. If so, the county owns them. They certainly should be searched for MCSO official communications.

Not likely. Since it's labeled as an Internal Investigation they won't have subpoena power and most email providers won't give anything without a subpoena.

If a criminal investigation is conducted (or has been) then subpoenas may issue.. just a thought.
