Rage Against the Machine and Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band will headline the fundraiser, which Sound Strike is anticipating will raise more than $300,000 for such organizations as Phoenix civil rights leader Salvador Reza's Puente Movement, and the Florence Project, a non-profit organization that provides free legal services to immigrants detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The concert is part of a week of activism heading toward July 29, the day SB 1070, Arizona's new breathing-while-brown law, is scheduled to go into effect. The press release notes that this is RATM's "first concert in their hometown of Los Angeles in 10 years."
Sound Strike spokesman Marco Amador tells me some money has already been raised for groups fighting 1070, but the concert will certainly bring in more. No word yet on how much the tickets will cost, but Amador encouraged people to keep checking back to the Sound Strike Web site for more info.
Big ups to the Sound Strikers for putting this together. Looks like it's time for a road trip to L.A. Who wants to split the gas?
