No More Deaths Benefit Tonight at Bragg's Pie Factory
No More Deaths, the non-profit humanitarian group that leaves water in the wild for migrants crossing the Arizona desert, wraps up its art auction/fundraiser tonight at Bragg's Pie Factory, 1301 N.W. Grand Ave., in Phoenix. You may recall that I first gave you a heads up about the fundraiser a couple of weeks ago, as NMD began showing the art then.
The event starts at 6 p.m. with the art auction itself, which lasts till 9 p.m. Music from such funky acts as Wizard Teeth, The Hunger Artists, Porches, Los Mudros, and Djentrification starts at 7:30 p.m. Eats will be provided by Food Not Bombs, which is sponsoring the happening. And it costs you only a $5 donation to get in the door.
As the Facebook page for the shindig notes, "All money raised will go toward providing lifesaving food and water to migrants crossing the Arizona Borderlands."
With temps expected to reach an unbearable 115 degrees Fahrenheit in the Valley today, imagine the suffering of those wandering the desert without water. No More Deaths volunteers regularly hike rugged terrain to leave water drops in areas where migrants cross. They maintain a year-round camp in Arivaca, and offer medical assistance to those stranded.
You can learn more about their selfless efforts in a cover story I penned earlier this year, "Blood's Thicker Than Water." I encourage all reading to stop by tonight's fundraiser and at the very least make a donation. There's also some cool art being offered in the auction, and the bands look dope. So be there.
