Real lawmen, like Yuma County Sheriff Ralph Ogden oppose it, as do numerous organizations, from the Catholic Church and the Arizona Interfaith Network, to businesspersons, municipalities and the ACLU.
In this video by Dennis Gilman, Phoenix attorney David Selden describes how the bill is a huge boondoggle, which will line the pockets of nativist lawyers such as Kris Kobach, the guy being paid $300 per hour to advise Sheriff Joe Arpaio's deputies on immigration law.
Selden explains the origins of Pearce's so-called "civil rights provision" in the bill, which is not a civil rights provision at all and would actually would encourage racial profiling. He further points out that the language of that provision goes back to the segregationists of the 1960s, who sought to block the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
There are a host of reasons Pearce's bill should be rejected outright, from the practical to the moral. Whether Pearce will be able to bully his bill through the House despite all of these, we should know by the day's end.

I lived in Costa Mesa,Ca some years ago & used to dive down 405 to Beach Blvd & to the R it is Westmenster, Ca exit ( to the L is Huntington Beach,Ca exit, At the exit to Westminster is a stone.brick signage saying KOREA TOWN. T hispanics had put a makeshift sign attached to it saying, "IT WAS ONCE OUR LAND, IT WILL BE OURS AGAIN".The police tried to make them take it down & a mini riot occurred. In Sacramnento,Ca across from what used to be Norte Del Rio H.S. the police were out there every day battling the hispanic thugs who supposedly went to school there looking for drugs & weapons, my parents lived across from the school. It changed in Martin L. King Jr.H. and it was worse than when it was a H.S., they actually had gang wars there.

i fail to understand how this is even a new law. are we not (legal citizens and illegals alike) already required under the patriot act to show our "papers" a.k.a identification, if we are stopped by the police? every state requires this. it is nothing new. illegal immigrants[note the word "illegal" here] are BREAKING THE LAW. police are called "law enforcement" for a reason: they enforce the law(imagine that!). how is the crime of illegally living here punished? deportation. IT IS THE LAW. are we allowed to break the law just because we feel like it? no. if they are breaking the law, they need to face the consequences. as for the immigrants, if they are illegal, they should not be here. immigrants are fine, but they must go through the process to get here. it is the law. maybe it is "hard" to get legal status, but for good reason! the immigration laws are made to control the flow of people into our country. this is a finite piece of land, we do not have room for everyone who wants to live here. we are not a charity, we did not cause the poverty in other countries. we should not have to pay for their mistakes.
i am speaking of immigrants from EVERY country, not just mexico.
all illegal immigrants are breaking the law.
every other country in the world has immigration laws, i don't see anyone making such a big deal over any other country's immigration policy.
immigrate LEGALLY.
if you want to live here, follow the fucking rules.

I was reading all the negative comments regarding SB 1070 and it is apparent that most if not all of the negative comments and attacks against this legislation are from either employers who have exploited the slave labor market by hiring illegals to enrich themselves at the expense of his fellow CITIZEN who could not afford to work for slave wages.
OR, they are family, friends, or relatives of illegal immigrants who should not be here in the first place.
It makes me feel good to know the right thing has been accomplished by Gov. Brewer signing this bill and making it law.
Amnesty never has worked, and never will.
The man who really makes brilliant sense and summed it up brilliantly and accurately on this forum is Dave Francis who posted on Wednesday, Apr. 14 2010 @ 4:49PM.

Hi, I am the person who pushed open the Temporary Guest Worker Program called the H2B Temporary Guest Worker Visa. I did this back in 1996 to stop the negative impact on our industry (Forest Conservation) by companies using undocumented workers. Overall I agree with the Senator. I have travelled throughout Mexico over the last decade and Mexico does not and will not stand for undocumented people in their country. The hear no evil see no evil so we have no evil policy of the past is wrong. This "it's OK to have undocumented underground economy is the root cause of rape, and abuse of innocent woman and children in Mexico. If the man does not pay the people who smuggled him into the US payment is taken in rape of his wife and even his kids.

Yes we need to stop the undocumented worker but do it with a balanced approach. More Visas, a path to legal status for undocumented people who have children who are U.S. citizens etc. This illegal underground is killing and harming honest good people on both sides of the boarder.

The Roman Catholic Church may have it's heart in the right place, but not it's brain. Most of it's propaganda for it's "Justice for Immigrants" campaign is false and misleading. Similar to the statements they make about pediphiles preists.

The police have a right to investigate suspecious activities and ask residents for their identification. Even white guys without an ID get fingerprinted.

Merely book the undocumented and send their prints to the FBI and the HSD. Let the feds make their decision and act accordingly.

Legal residents are demanding comprehensive enforcement.

Visit NumbersUSA and help fight illegal immigration.

The real truth is that there are over 20 million plus illegal aliens in this nation. They have all spat on our sovereign laws, our flag, and our constitution to break into America. Then demonstrate in our streets, branding foreign flags and demand their Civil rights. The intention was there, no matter the cause to enter America without means of financial support. The cesspool of businesses that employed foreigners, rather than a US citizen-resident cannot be forgiven and there should be a composite of heavy fines, business asset confiscation and imprisonment? There should be no conciliation for gainfully profiting on the backs of their own people? An estimated eight million foreign nationals have jobs, while the number of Americans seeking work is over 15 million and still accelerating.

Another grand travesty is that the US State Department issues approximately 1.5 million work visas annually. I agree as the majority of Americans that we can always make room for highly intelligent, skilled workers that can be elusive commodity in our country. But what we--DON'T-- need are mediocre immigrant job seekers from other lands that our own workforce must teach job skills, before those employees receive a pink slip. Immigration attorneys have been proven time and time again on fudging a person’s qualifications, to import into this country, large contingents of low skilled legal immigrants from countries with impoverished wages. The biggest issue here businesses cut jobs, and the low skilled are the first to go. That means the taxpayer becomes the payee of hundreds of thousands of people, who ultimately end up in the government entitlement programs.

The E-Verify program with successful modifications could be used to disclose illegal immigrants, defrauding the welfare benefits system. ICE should recycle audits and even make lightening raids on previously visited companies. E-Verify must be instigated permanently and not a voluntary illegal alien reducer in auto licenses, vehicle registration, health care and other pertinent identification processes. Whereas the highly, technically skilled soon find a new employer. THE MAJOR PROBLEM IS, WE CAN DO WITHOUT THE LANDSCAPERS, JANITORS, AND CONSTRUCTION LABOR, AS WE HAVE MILLIONS OF US CITIZENS-RESIDENTS WHO CAN DO THESE MANUAL JOBS? The real $ cost of the illegal alien invasion has remained intentionally undisclosed by our Senators and Congressman. Few states admit the expenditures, especially California?

Arizona legislators have seen the financial errors caused by blanket immigration to that state. Finally it will be signed into law by Governor Jan Brewer, the most restrictive measures to give law enforcement the ability to question any individual they deem as suspicious of illegal entry. Condemnation is already appearing from the National media generated by the open border advocacy organizations.ONE THINGS FOR SURE, THAT IF THE PEOPLE OF ARIZONA DIDN'T WANT THIS LAW PASSED? IT WOULD NEVER EVEN HAVE BEEN CONSIDERED? Illegal immigration has become a nationwide battleground and the economic aspect it, would pay for all our foreign wars? Arizona illegal immigrants who realize their time is up, will now flood California as there is no enforcement there. Everything goes? Including citizens-residents welfare befits for illegal aliens. That why the Sanctuary State has massive deficits? Years of complete and utter irrelevance has allowed this illegal occupation to happen.

To even consider another mass amnesty is beyond outrageous, beyond anything comprehensible. Our Lawmakers, who are subservient to the moneyed open border lobbyists or the radical ethnocentric organizations, WILL BE REMEMBERED IN UPCOMING ELECTIONS. Sen. Harry Reid, Pelosi, McCain, Schumer, Graham the Pro-Amnesty incumbent will be removed. Unless the high population of illegal aliens in Nevada vote for him? Yes! They will vote. A growing list of pro-amnesty, anti-sovereignty politicians is visible at NumbersUSA. TO RECAP ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION ENFORCEMENT IS ONLY SEEN TO WORK? IN FACT IT HAS NEVER BEEN ENFORCED. WE HAVE BEEN CHEATED FOR DECADES?

Rosano Pulido, I assure you Russell Pearce, a homegrown Arizona boy, wouldn't get to first base in Chicago, even with racists.

I'd give him or his clone a month. Chicago for the most part has class and diversity that's taken for granted. He'd be viewed as a nutcase, especially with something like his unconstitutional SB1070.

Chicago's reporters and columnists would devour Pearce by exposing his outlandish fabrications, his fast-talking contradictions, his made up "statistics" that he rattles off with careless abandon, and for the blustering dumbass that he is.

They'd also let Chicagoans know of Pearce's short history as director of the Motor Vehicle Department here, why he got canned, his doctoring of a driver's record, the felonious doctoring of friends' drivers licenses by his son who also worked there, etc., etc.

Even Chicago police who know their limits would either be aghast or bemused at Pearce's ghastly proposals and rants that go against the principles of sound law enforcement.

I doubt if Pearce, who, sad to say, happens to be my state senator, has ever even BEEN to Chicago.

Rosanna pulido, you boat rat you.

The lack of vision and foresight in Arizona is stunning.

We need to CLONE Senator Russell Pearce and send him to Chicago. Boy Russell we really need you Now. Please consider coming to Chicago and passing the same law, only better!! God Bless you sir, you are a great American!! God Bless you and Sheriff Joe Arpaio!!

Sinister Russell Pearce needs a good ol' fashion punch square faced in the jaw. I'd be happy to land him one. That will knock some sense in that lying sonava bitch.

Tonight on Th JeffFariasShow.com @ 4pmMST – Robert McDonald is a candidate for the Arizona Senate from LD 20.
He seeks to unseat Russell Pearce who is one of the most controversial politicians in Arizona.
It is Pearce that leads many of the anti-immigrant legislation that comes form the legislature.

Also in tonight's discussion:

1. Andy Worthington on recent article that was cross-posted at TruthOut titled, "Guantánamo & Habeas Corpus: The Torture Victim & the Taliban Recruit"

2. 5pmMST – Bob Cesca returns! Bob is a regular contributor at Huffington Post as well as maintaining "Bob Cesca’s AwesomeBlog"! Bob has been covering the violence around teabag movement, & of course, Glenn Beck.
Bob had a recent piece at HuffPo titled, "Exposing Glenn Beck as a Dangerous Fraud":

"So here goes. Beginning with this post, I intend to expose Glenn Beck as a fraud. A dangerous faker who deliberately manipulates his audience by appealing to their basest instincts. As a man who only embraces conservatism and the tea party movement as a means to furthering his significant personal wealth and career as a successful TV goon.
My theory is as follows.
Glenn Beck is engaged in a carefully orchestrated performance that, if taken to its logical end, can only end up in tragedy — a tragedy, not in the name of some great political or social or religious cause, as too many of his viewers might believe, but rather in the name of pure careerism and greed.
A tragedy in the name of Glenn Beck’s personal drive for fame and fortune, not to mention the similar motivations of Roger Ailes and Rupert Murdoch …"

Tnx anaonymous........ill scope out this wetback lovin seldens office.Hes probably a faggit like gilman.
Deport em all now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - enforcer

Actually, Juan Mentiroso, this law would be GOOD for attorney Selden. Anytime the a legislature passes stupid laws like this, it is a full-lawyer employment program.

I found this an incredibly poorly done interview. The interviewer did not prepare himself for an interview with a high school bully. Pearce got free airtime.

Pro-enforcement people ------ here is Selden's bio from the Arizona Bar. He's a piece of shit.

These bills that Pearce wants passed also help cover Arpaio's butt when his deputies stop and arrest Hispanics without cause. On Arpaio's own MCSO website in two different places he states that his jurisdiction is outside incorporated areas and within city limits with which he has a contract to provide law enforcement to that city. So why is he going into Phoenix, Glendale, Mesa, etc. with his immigration sweeps???? Those areas are outside his jurisdiction and have city police departments to take care of the crime in their own cities. It's way past time for someone to reign this power hungry maniac in---both of them.

Keep up the great work mr. Lemons. Keep the American people informed! This traitorous Bill presented by Pearce is indeed a blatant and outright lie to the American people. This seditious and unconstitutional Bill must not pass! This is a call for arms! We must maintain our Civil Rights and Liberties.

Now we're really laughing when you support your baseless arguments with "Phoenix attorney David Selden." That the best you can do - another cowpoke cattle rustler?

Make sure Selden takes a look at the OKON v PHOENIX class action, Docket Number 09-16027, now pending in the U.S. Court of Appeals - Ninth Circuit. We don't need Kobach. Let's see Selden file an Amicus Curiae brief in opposition. Give us a good laugh, Selden.

Attorney David Selden also fails to mention that his personal interests would also be impacted as an immigration attorney here in Arizona if Pearce's bill is ratified.

Selden's long diatribe is a good example of a long winded opening statement that costs individuals and taxpayers hundreds of dollars per hour when these slimeballs open their mouths. They are simply unable to get to the point quickly, accurately and succinctly.
