Video of Mary Rose Wilcox in D.C. by videographer Dennis Gilman
Telling the crowd at the big immigration rally on Sunday in Washington, D.C. that Sheriff Joe runs Maricopa County like a "police state," county Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox urged listeners to call the U.S. Department of Justice and tell Attorney General Eric Holder to "indict Arpaio."
The rally for comprehensive immigration reform drew tens of thousands of people according to the New York Times, including a delegation from Phoenix including Wilcox, attorney Danny Ortega, civil rights activist Salvador Reza, and several members of Reza's Puente Movement.
"[Joe Arpaio] terrorizes our communities," Wilcox informed her audience. "He goes out in sweeps, and he tries to silence all his critics. I know because I was one of them. We spoke out against immigration policies that were repressive, and the sheriff charged me and tried to put me in jail."
Arpaio's name got a round of boos from the crowd, whom Wilcox later led in the chant of, "Indict Arpaio."
On Monday, as I advised they were going to do in a previous blog post, members of the Puente crew protested the U.S. Department of Justice in the rain, chanting, "Holder take over the MCSO," and carrying signs that read, "ICE Complicit with MCSO Crimes" and "Exercise Receivership over MCSO."
The Arizona Republic's Dan Nowicki attended the demonstration and blogged about it for his paper. You can read his account, here. Also, CBS 5 KPHO has some raw footage of the protest, which you can watch, here.
Despite the charges being dropped against Wilcox, you have to give her credit for her stones. Not many politicians are willing to demand Arpaio's indictment, even though he's currently being investigated by a federal grand jury in Phoenix, as well as by the U.S. DOJ's civil rights division.

Until I here her explain her comments on Thursday in the church, I consider this woman to be a racist. What completion was she talking about for Arizona? When I look around I see a mix of completions, just the way it should be. From what she said, it sounds like that is all wrong in her opinion. She thinks Arizona should go back to being the completion of the past. I would like her to explain what she means by that.

I just want to know when MAry Rose and her hubby will be held accountable for THEIR violations of the law. Clink, Clink.... handcuffs for both!!!

Good job on the copy and paste. Maybe one day you might have an original thought of your own.

Truer words could not have been said better from another stories poster.

>>Didn't you hear what Arpaio said? "Some times you have probable cause to arrest some one..."

Her only probable cause was to be Hispanic.

All you Hispanics remember when you're walking down the street or driving your kids to school, you will be suspect because as Arpaio once put it, "You look like you just came from Mexico".

Don't be shocked if you get arrested and even some of you deported. KNOW YOUR PLACE!
Arpaio says you're second class.. not worthy of any rights that Americans have. And as we've seen here, being born here does not give you those rights like a TRUE AMERICAN.
YOU ARE HISPANIC - YOU ARE NOT AMERICAN.

That's Arpaio's message to all messicans.

I beleive the Justice Department has gotton it to such a large cess pool of Corruption in the M.C.S.O. they are having to sort through it layer by layer!

To: Moral Courage and Justice for All.

No one is above the Law.

Tina, well said.

Cousin Ronny, Do you really think Arporkhole is putting a dent in the illegal population ?? You can vote for that fat fuck until he dies but i think the feds will be crawling up his fat ass pretty quick. Are you really that fucking dumb to think we can just seal up the borders and the problem is solved.

I still can't believe the people here who support Arpighole and his goons. Mary is the least of the counties worries. That overstuffed cocksucker you people call your sheriff should be footing the bill right out of your own pockets. I am fucking tired of my tax dollars getting pissed out the window by this overstuffed windbag and his over inflated ego.

Last time someone shot her, we found out where her brain was. Apparently she was shot in it.

Mary Rose, with her La Raza connections and her amnesty activism has no place on the Board of Supervisors. She is a biased activist with an agenda that does not match that of the county. She should step down and continue her activism on her own, instead of using the BOS as her sounding board.

She's an embarrasment to Maricopa County government.

It's nice to see Mary stand up to the old senile fat fuck. I can't wait for the day the Arpighole, Henderslob and that kernel of corn that fell out of Arporkholes ass ( Andy ) get the fucking boot and a prison cell. Way to go Mary for having the balls to stand up to these fucking low lifes.

Just FYI for the anti-Arpaio group

Shurf joke will be at MCC tonight at 7:00PM

If the illegals would just obey our laws then they wouldn't have to worry about Joe or anyone else. When people commit at least a half dozen laws daily (illegal entry, driving, working, not paying taxes, etc) they deserve what they get. We have laws and processes and if the illegals think they are too good to follow them, then YES deport their butts! Joe is doing is job ! I support him and support the rule of law.

Mary Rose Wilcox rocked the Nation!

I'm impressed. Someone send this to Arpaio so he can grunt awhile.

Assuming Wilcox used her own funds for this travel I think it's fine. When Wilcox runs for reelection the voters will clearly see where Wilcox stands on immigration and can vote accordingly.

She says she wants "reform" but let's be honest about the reform she wants. She doesn't want anyone currently in the country illegally (or undocumented if you like that better) to be sent back to their home countries (i.e. separating families).

Although I disagree with her stance I respect Wilcox for having the courage to openly align herself with people who seek open borders rather than pretend she is for border enforcement.

There's something refreshing about seeing politicians unashamedly tell you their positions rather than trying to be all things to all people.

I don't agree with media bias.
I don't agree with sherrif Joe!!!
I don't agree with people leaving their country to go, else where to live like they are in their OLD COUNTRY.
I don't agree with people condoning bad people, just because, they have same color skin.

And I sure don't agree, with the executive immunity crap.

CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG

Hey STEPDOWN....does your jock strap need adjusting?

The two who need to step down are JOE ARPAIO and ANDREW THOMAS.

Arpaio has sucked more money from the taxpayers than a 50 cent whore.

Thomas has misspent, misused, misdirected and misappropriated more money in one year than you could count.

Mary Rose Wilcox had balls enough to stand up to these two abusive nimwits.

Neither one of these guys could hold a REAL job, and they have become a source of humiliating slobber to Maricopa County citizens.

I would suggest that STEPDOWN adjust that jock strap. Those tiny little gonads obviously need some oxygen - and since they're so close to the brain, time is of essence.

I say Step Down and Cousin Ronny are 2 perfect people to start paying for Bozo Joe's bullshit out of their personal pockets since they seem to think he is a God.

Weekly deductions from their paychecks would be a great start for all Bozo Joe supporters.

Lets not forget about the rest of Arpaio's Goons, they all need to be indicted.

To the dumbass who calls him self "Step Down"

Do you think Arpaio should resign for going on book signing tours of a book he later confessed under oath he didn't write?
Should he step down for campaigning for Mitt Romney? Sheriff Butt Hole from Cali?

How about when he went on the Colbert Report and later admited he used our money to finance the trip?

You're a real stupid fuck Step Down. In fact you are a step down from dog shit as brains.

Step down says: .....Mary Rose should step down, her activism is clearly interfering with her job on the BOS. I surely hope there was no county money or assets used in her travels to D.C....

Well, heck, now that you've called for Mary Rose to step down I almost expect her to call a press conference tomorrow and announce her resignation.

Maybe not.

I became aware of Mary Rose a scant few years ago. Didn't know a tinker's dam about her and then I started following the machinations of the the Board of Supervisors, along with what MCSO and MCAO were up to. I saw the 'sweeps' and was disgusted by them. I saw Mary Rose and the guts she displayed and have been an admirer of hers ever since.

I got to meet Mary Rose yesterday at the MCSA meeting with Mr. Stapley and her. I am a better person today after having met the two of them.

You call for Mary Rose to step down. I call for Mary Rose to elevate herself to a position where someone with her intestinal fortitude can be more effective.

I am quite sure taxpayer money didn't pay for her to go to Washington. I, however, would have been glad to contribute to that trip if it was an issue.

From what I saw of Mary Rose yesterday, I don't think she has any problems separating her position on the Board with her feelings about immigration.

By the way, Step Down, she is not calling for Open Borders. She is calling for immigration policy reform, because what we have today isn't working very well, now is it?

The MCSO sheriff is mentally ill.

I fully support Sheriff Joe and will always vote for him. Time to deport every single illegal and seal up the borders. Wilcox is scum and Stapley is just as bad. Both need to be voted out. More money should be spent to rid us of the criminals. Every single one needs to be arrested, deported, and reparations from Mexico for the theft of medical and educational services. THEY DO NOT BELONG HERE!!!

Mary Rose should step down, her activism is clearly interfering with her job on the BOS. I surely hope there was no county money or assets used in her travels to D.C. My tax money is not for open borders activism.

I am calling for Mary Rose to step down from the BOS immediately.

Anonymous has a point. Our own AG either can't or won't go after Joe/Candy, why would Holder? All he would do is pass the buck to Goddard, AZ US Attorney Dennis Burke, or simply decline prosecution. I'm amazed Burke hasn't become a victim of the Arpaio/Thomas tag team yet. Plus if Holder goes after Joe, there'll be hell to pay. He'd fall right into Joe and Candy's trap.

Like anything else. It first takes one then more have the courage to follow.

That last "Anonymous" comment is mine. Forgot to sign in.

Lemons is right. Not only are "not many politicians willing to demand Arpaio's indictment," but in light of what the out-of-control Arpaio/Thomas team has done to retaliate against those few office holders who HAVE spoken out against the duo's unconscionable actions (requiring horrendous legal defense fees), politicians here are understandably reticent to speak publicly against Arpaio's pervasive abuse of power.

Who needs that hassle? By insidious and loud means, they are effectively gagged by Arpaio and Thomas.

Say whatever crap you want. Mary Rose stands up to Arpaio and gave Obama a strong msg! DON'T MESS WITH US!

Is Holder indicting Candy Ass Thomas as well? Seems to me he too ran roughshod over the people and the law. He's guilty of allowing Joe's abuses go on unnoticed, as well as his own treasure trove of crimes.

What goes around, comes around. It is longer overdue to indict a County Sheriff who has abused his power and run roughshod over the people for far too long. And who allowed him to do it? The County Attorney.
