As for effigies...


For a long time, the racists with United for a Sovereign America used to have a Hispanic looking baby doll with a noose around its neck hanging from the back of their signs so you could only see it from inside the Macehualii center. They had written “Anchor Baby” on its shirt. Now the same people who thought it was funny to hang effigies of US citizen babies in nooses are acting outraged that a Cinco de Mayo party included a piñata.


Give me a break.

When I first heard this story yesterday, it kind of turned my stomach. Do we really have to stoop down to Joe’s press-slut level to draw attention to a good cause? In doing so, the group fed his insatiable appetite for media attention. I don’t know. It wouldn’t have been my tactic, but I hope it gave them the kind of attention they wanted.

FB – you made me go on KTAR again. I just went almost a week without arguing with the racists on the comment board, but now I’m back for more punishment. I wish more people would show up to rile their feathers, pointless as it may be.

This is an outstanding example of the education and leadership example being provided by the families and civic organizations in the Hispanic community.

As I said earlier.....Pueblo is a great civic minded organization showing the youth how to respect law enforcement.
The parents that brought their children to this event are to blame for the things happening in our city today.
This kind of publicity feuls the fire of the debates.

If the pinatas had been in the likeness of ceasar Chavez or President Calderon the cries of racism would be heard for miles. As far as the comment from Q Street Underground and the "anchor baby effigie" that is a lie and he knows it. This is the kind of racism that will divide this city to an irrepairable level.

I think that Arizona should move to become a part of Mexico because things are run better down in Mexico.

I also think instead of an English learner law, there should be a Spanish learner law and all whites should have to speak spanish, because English is a european language, whereas Spanish was spoken by the Aztecs and Iriquois.

The pinatas are great! If Arpaio can demean the inmates using pink underwear and other trappings, then I'm sure he can understand the concept behind the pinatas. I say it again and again, but it is AMAZING how incredibly concerned some people are about enforcing one particular law, the violation of which is not a criminal offense. You don't hear them raving about the need for tougher regulations on large corporations that steal billions from the public in the form of tax breaks, bailouts, etc.

You don't see them rallying in the streets calling for the indictment of members of the Bush administration for that little thing known as LYING TO CONGRESS AND STARTING A WAR AS A RESULT.

And WHEN do you see ANY of these individuals or groups bringing up ways to make this legal immigration easier? Actually given the history and culture of Mexico, as well as the admixture of Native American DNA in many otherwise European descended Americans(those having roots going back far enough in the New World), it could be said that Mexico is not that much more indigenous or non-European than the US or Canada for that matter.

If more Mexican-Americans would accept this fact about their identity, it would be one measure to help build a bridge between the "native" American population and the Mexican community. Identity politics never help anything, they just feed ammunition to the right.
