Pearce post-rug. The new look failed to fill the campaign coffers...

Remember when Paleolithic Republican state Rep. Russell Pearce was gonna run for Congress against GOP golden-boy, Congressman Jeff Flake? Pearce had an exploratory committee, and even started sporting a toupee in a failed attempt to look young -- at least he seemed to be wearing a rug in the banner for the committee's Web site. But Pearce finished exploring in early January, and decided not to challenge the popular, well-respected Flake.

"Ultimately, it came down to this," Pearce penned in a press release at the time. "I know that I will be more effective and have a greater influence on public policy issues important to Arizona as one of 30 in the state Senate rather than one of 435 in Washington, DC."

Thing is, Pearce's January 31, 2008 campaign finance report for money solicited from November 28, 2006 to December 31, 2007 shows a paltry $24K raised. The report is on file with Secretary of State Jan Brewer's office. Pearce has since transferred much of this money to some sort of state exploratory committee, according to the S.O.S., and Pearce will not have to account for it until the next reporting deadline in June.

On the federal level, the FEC has a letter from Pearce dated November 29, 2007, wherein he stated that he has raised in excess of $5K. Pearce told the feds at that time that he had not yet decided whether to be a candidate for Arizona's Sixth District Congressional Seat. There's nothing on file other than that. The FEC's backgound material for the press on "testing the waters" committees states, "An individual who merely tests the waters, but does not campaign for office, does not have to register or report as a candidate." Did Pearce take up a collection for his Congressional exploratory committee, then roll it over for his state Senate run once he opted out of the Congressional race? One FEC flack told me the feds would have no problem with this.

In any case, Opensecrets.org states that Flake's cash on hand is nearly a cool million: $974,536 to be precise, $890,974 of it raised for this election cycle. There's no way the poltroonish Pearce could've come close to Flake's take. The two men aren't even in the same league. No wonder Pearce punked out. Well, that, and essentially the state GOP told Pearce that Flake was their man.

As you might expect, Pearce's contributor list boasts its share of anti-brown clowns. Top of the list: Rusty "Crusty" Childress, head bigot over at United for a Sovereign America. Ever the cheapskate car-dealer, he gave a pitiful $182.31. Don"Goofy" Goldwater, nephew to Barry, and proof that the fruit sometimes falls faaar from the tree, ponied up $100. Minuteman honcho Chris Simcox, known by his detractors in that movement as "the Little Prince," lists himself as a "consultant" and lays $200 cash on Pearce, as well as $82.31 in goods and services. Looks like he, Rusty and a few others went Dutch on some campaign expense, hence the repeat of that $82.31 figure.

Al Rodriguez, of the F.A.I.R. (Federation for American Immigration Reform) offshoot You Don't Speak for Me donated $100. Rodriguez is one a very few anti-Hispanic Hispanics who offer their tokendom up for the nativist cause. He's appeared before state legislative committees, adding his StepinFetchit assent to anti-American bills such as SB 1108, meant to outlaw dissenting views in the classroom. Al, you're a credit to, um, la raza. Not.

No moolah from Mesa neo-Nazi J.T. Ready, one of Pearce's staunchest supporters. But then Ready doesn't look like the kind of cat who'd have an extra c-note or two handy. Them swastikas cost money, yo.

Take it as a sign of Pearce's weakness that he will have a primary this time 'round, and it sounds like it'll be no walk in the park. Jeff Flake's brother-in-law Kevin Gibbons will be taking on Pearce for the Republican nomination. The fact that Gibbons is, like Pearce, an LDS member, will help him against Russ in the heavily Mormon enclave of Mesa. The Republican primary will likely decide the contest. Let's hope the best Mormon wins.

Coz says:

Pearce, another corrupt politician that money can buy.

D.J. Racist Ryke says:

So this Kevin Gibbons guy is also not in the same league as that geriatric of an idiot RUSSELL PEARCE(R-Mesa)?

Let me ask a fundemental question regarding PEARCE. If the vast majority of East Valley Repupblican Politicians are strictly behind Jeff Flake, then who's in RUSSELL PEARCE`s league? Anyone? Just White Supremacists?

RUSSELL PEARCE is fuckin moron, he's one reason why Arizona is already in a state of recession, mainly because of that egregious law he authored. Unlike the old saying goes:
"Where the workers go, the jobs go." Quotr/unquote.

Eddie K says:

Pearce is extremely vulnerable to losing the state senate race in his district. Money rules in political races and if you can't raise it you're not worth a damn. Pearce has to rely on the Clean Elections law to run. Otherwise, he'd have almost NO money.

All of Arizona needs to get behind Kevin Gibbons and encourage those in West Mesa's District 18 to vote for him in the September 2 primary. Pearce's agenda has been highly destructive for all Arizonans. He needs to be shown the door with a foot planted firmly on his backside.

Rep. Jeff Flake is certainly a zillion times more respectable than Russell Pearce and he's popular -- but he is also an extreme conservative who, apart from some enlightened positions (ending the Cuba embargo, his recent moves toward voting against war funding and for gay rights) takes very Goldwater Institute-ish, Club for Growth-ish positions. Granted, these are popular with the majority of the very conservative, Republican Sixth Congressional District voters, but there are still Democrats and liberals in the East Valley who want a choice.

Unlike in 2002 and 2004, this year Jeff Flake will have a Democratic opponent to call him on it. And maybe a Green opponent as well. See my blog:

Kochise says:

If anyone who has been layed off recently in the labor business because of some law designed by that nut-winger Russell Pearce of Mesa. One should also know who is exactly to blame for Arizona`s sluggish economy. Folks like James Cooney who posted on here awhile back, who is a former heavey equipment operator and unfortunately layed off. The construction business has been hit pretty hard by Russell Pearce`s White Supremacy law. If contruction workers and other low skilled workers like James Cooney would take their heads out of their hairy asses, then they would actually see who is held cupable for their lay offs. According to Lee Hockstader of the Sacremento Bee says:

"But despite a jobless rate that is creeping high, it has dawned on lawmakers that an enforcement--only strategy may inflict a lethal blow to the state employers in agriculture, hospitality, construction, and other industries, all of which have depended on a steady supply of low skilled immigrant workers. And while the economic slowdown has somewhat eassed the demand for workers, especially in construction, chances are slim, that Arizona`s economy will come roaring back without an adequate labor supply."
http://www.sacbee.com/110/story/888098.html

So much for trying to go back to more simplier times in a modern day 21st century AZ, is down-right lame and retarded. Which may also explains why the lawmakers are in a panic mode to come up with a bipartisan bill. Having nut crackers like Russell Pearce running around loose creating laws without further research is a freaking disaster. Vote him out.

James Cooney says:

Actually Kochise, I was not laid off, my former employer, B & B Excavating was and is in financial hardship, due mostly to their sister company, Straightline Utilities being 5 million + in the red.
We were all asked to take an $8.00 an hour cut in pay. The owner of the company stated that he has 10 "operators" who would soon be unemployed from Straightline Utilities, and they would do the work that myself and the other current Operators at B & B Excavating were doing for 1/3 of the wage.
The facts are that the employees he was referring to at Straightline Utilities are all illegals, who have worked under the table, without benefits or overtime since they were hired.
I have been a Journeyman Heavy Equipment Operator for over 29 years, and make less money today than I did 10 years ago. Why, you ask??? The answer is quite simple. Greedy employers hiring cheap, inexperienced Illegal Labor, which has already effected my ability to provide for my family, and has pushed back my retirement plans another 10+ years.
I was not laid off Kochise, I walked away after being insulted by the request to take a further reduction in pay. The Department of Labor, along with local authorities have all received former complaints from the former employees effected by this despicable act by yet another greedy employer.
I am once again employed, making more money than I have in years with a long term successful Heavy Construction contractor in Phoenix.
As far as I can tell, Russell Pearce's legislature(s) and action are focused to help the American tradesmen and other blue collar workers preserve their careers and ability to provide for our families.
The one and only motivating factor I have currently is the ability to provide for my family. After 29 years of providing Journeyman level craftsmanship, I deserve much more money than I currently make. The current invasion of illegal labor flowing in from the south will continue to erode the middle class as we've known it until there will be no middle class (just like in all 3rd world counties).
Please explain to me how you believe Russell Pearce's actions are to blame for the current National recession and real estate devaluing?

Not sure what you do for a living Kochise but I would never stoop to the level of calling you a "low skilled" worker. I assume you work hard for the money you earn, and I would never insult your ability to provide for your self and your family.

Current 93 says:

Cry me a river, Kooney. Just because youre a loser doesnt mean you get to blame all your troubles on the brown people. All I hear you nativists do is bitch, bitch, bitch. Life means competition. You already start with an advantage -- your pale skin. Because of it, the hurdles you have to overcome are much, much smaller. If the skill you have aint working out for you, change. Go back to school at night, get into another career. Stop whining like a little woos. But I guess its easier to blame all your fuckups on others, huh?

You have a helluvalot more than some Mexican immigrant who has the choice of staying in Mexico and starving or coming here and looking for work. If you want sympathy, youve come to the wrong place. You terrorize others for trying to better themselves and you dont even have the courage to change yourself.

James Cooney says:

I would never lower myself to argue with an idiot, Current 93.

Current 93 says:

Koonie, youre so low already you could lick a crocs cock standing up...And for you, that would count as incest.

Kochise says:

Actually James Cooney has a good point.
But then again, that's called capitalism.
20 plus years would be enough for one to learn the inside tricks of the trade thus being abled to start up his own business, if they actually knew how do to so in due process....
I don't support Russell Pearce, Joe Arpaio nor do I support "open borders". But we definately need to put a cap on the flow......

James Cooney has a valid arguement.

James Cooney says:

Thank you Kochice for your honest and reasonable response. Unlike Current 93.

The equipment I operate starts at 1/2 million, used. For that sole reason I have not become self employed in the industry.

I'm no racist, I just explained the truth of my current situation. I blame no one but maybe our "trusted" political representatives, especially on the Federal level.

2 of my best friends are Mexican Americans. I've said for years if I was born a Mexican national I'd probably do what ever I needed to do to make it to the USA so I could provide for my family.

That being said, with 20 million + in the country already, and 5000 crossing every night, something must be done to stop the flow or the middle class will disappear.

Hank Hill says:

Poor Cooney, he can't compete with people who don't know the language, don't have work experience and have to live in the shadows. Poor, poor Cooney.

By the way Cooney, not only are you inept as a heavy equipment operator but you're no economist either. The labor provided by these migrants allows the middle and lower classes to flourish. I don't know about you but I don't aspire for my children to be ditch diggers. Somebody's got to do it but I sure as hell don't want it to be my kids. Who then? You? Your kids?

Pearce is done. His own church has sanctioned Gibbons as they're tired of being slimed by having him in their ranks. Maybe Cooney can get him a job excavating BS? Nah that wouldn't work, that's too dirty for him.

Hey Current 93, do you have the other half of this amulet?

James Cooney says:

Hank Hill should probably stick to selling propane and propane accessories.

Both of my sons are in College Hank, 1 in med school the other a Junior at U of A. I pay their full tuition.

I spent my "college years" in Viet Nam Hank, and chose my career as an Operating Engineer, Local 12.

I have not disrespected anyone, nor slung any cowardly insults. If you are incapable of debating without belligerent comments, then you Hank Hill is the "poor" "inept" individual, not I.

Dennis Gilman says:

James Cooney,

It is so simplistic to blame the Mexican for your situation.
But it will never solve your problem, even if you could get rid of all 20 million- you would not get your job back. You cant fight becuase you do not know who your enemy is.

Although I may not be in as mean of a mood as CURRENT 93, he did make some good points when he said

"You have a helluvalot more than some Mexican immigrant who has the choice of staying in Mexico and starving or coming here and looking for work. If you want sympathy, youve come to the wrong place. You terrorize others for trying to better themselves and you dont even have the courage to change yourself."

After NAFTA was put into law, The Mexican farmers wages went from 12 dollars to 3 a day. NAFTA helped only the wealthy. Before that, Reagans trikel-down economics was no more then the warm piss of the rich on all our backs. He did everything he could to break Unions and workers lost protection. He did manage to convince us the Goverment was the problem when -really- it is the only solution. (Trust me, Union-Busters love nothing more then to watch Blue Collar guys like James Cooney blame the Mexican.) CEO's kept getting richer- even as they made bad bus deals and bankrupted companies, they always walked away with millions in bonuses. While the employees pensions were raped. And when Clinton passed NAFTA, the U.S worker suffered. Then enters WalMart, people that had good jobs in retail took a 40% paycut just to work and thanks to Corporate Deregulation - they wiped out small businesses all over. Our farms are Corporate owned as are just about everything. But it got really bad for Mexico. What happened to The Middle Class US worker- happened to them tenfold. and it was also the end of any real enviromental protection or Corporate responsabilities.

Here is how I see the situation: Any and every Human deserves to be paid fairly for the work they do. And every human deserves wage protection, the right to join and organize a Union with out fear of being Deported or fired.
And the right to migrate. And to not be exploited by any employer. That includes Cooney and Manuel!
Amnesty is not a four letter word. While folks are screaming to close the borders, they offer no solution as to what to do, other then build walls, militarize our streets, country sides, Schools and even churches, and criminalize and deport, deport deport. In Nogales, you have folks dumped off with sprained ankles, sick with neamonia, trying to cross again. Some have broken bones. It really is a cross or die trying situation. So the right wing Neo Nazi Facists like Pearce will (if we let them) turn our country into a Police State. We are building more prisions all along the border and companies like Haliburten are getting rich off it. You think they are for terrorists? How about children. watch this video of an ICE Prision in Texas, what is weird about it is ICE released it to try to show us everything is Humane:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOIhc_oCSX4

Thats not my America. But it is getting closer to Nazi Germany. And it is Russell Pearces America. The problem is not the open border. Its the Unregulated Corporation. The problem is on both sides of the border.

James Cooney says:

I feel for Mexico and just about every other nation that is not as fortunate as the USA Dennis. Lets focus our attention on helping Mexico fix Mexico. To expect Americans to adopt all the poor, needy people from Mexico is a ridiculous suggestion.

2006 Department of Homeland Security stats state that on average, 25% of the 5000+ that crossed our borders were apprehended. Of that 25%, 762 individuals were detained and classified as high terrorist risk and on the FBI watch list. Why would anyone support "open borders" after 9/11 ???????

NAFTA is not a law Dennis, it was done behind closed doors, just like the North American Union deal, and both reek of Socialism. The American taxpayer was never made aware of either until years after the "behind the scene" negotiations. More acts of greed by corrupt politicians and greedy corperate executives.

Anonymous says:

James,

We almost agree at least that NAFTA is a bad deal. But NAFTA isTHE RULE OF LAW and is nothing like socialism.
NAFTA is not a Socialist agrement, it is a Corporate Trade Agreement that favors American corporations and devalues every worker from both sides of the borders, including Canada. It was signed by Mexico becuase they owed us alot of Money due to alot of reasons that are not worth going into but they sure as hell are not the guy who took your job's fualt. So try looking deeper.

Fact: Before 1994, Mexican Farmers were self sufficent. Corn was its #1 product for trade and production. Now, even Cuba gets U.S corn products.

Fact: The U.S. Subsidizes our Farmers. When NAFTA went into Law in 1994, Mexico's Corn was worth 70% less almost over night. This effected there ability to survive. You know what it is like to take a pay cut, so I do not have to explain this in detail. But we were and still are able to take our corn and other products and sell them(sometimes dump them) into Mexico Dutie Free. Good deal for The U.S. Govt Subsidized Corporations, bad deal for the working Man (pardon the sexist pun) regardless of what part of America he was from.

Fact: Although American Farmers used some migrant workers for cheap farm labor before 1994, afterwards- we needed them to keep up with production. We became what we are today //0% unemployement. Meaning lots of shitty jobs that you cant survive on, but lots of Jobs!.

Myth: Mexico gained from Factories moving in after NAFTA.
WRONG!. After NAFTA came even more deregulation and with inflation in Mexico, it didn't take long for most manufacturing jobs to go even farther south and eventually into China, ect..Thanks to Reagan and Clinton!

Additionally, we have used much Military secretly to try to keep Labor Unions and Socialists out of power in Mexico and Central and Southern America-(Nicaragia, El Salvador, Guatamella) Every Black-Water Corporate Soldier for Hire was trained somewhere. Some say that we had a hand in making sure that the last election went to The Right Wing Pro Corp Presidente. (most average Joes in Mexico City will tell you he did not win fair) Thats right. It gets complicated and is too easy to be misquoted on a NT post so I'll just leave it at that,

But I can tell you that the main reason I call all the Minute Men and United For Soveriegn America Members and other vigalantie s cowards is becuase they have not the balls to take on the real problem so instead they go after the Day Laborer. It is sad and pathetic. The U. S. and our Greedy Policies and Corporate Power Brokers are benefiting greatly by the way things are in Mexico. So when I hear you say. I want Mexico to Fix Mexico. When are you going to wake up and start fixing The U.S.?

As for the 762 Mexican Terrorists- You will have to do better then that to scare me.. That may work with the SUN CITY CROWD.
I'm not real worryed about Terrorists risking there lives in the desert from Mexico when they can fly over here from Europe and when we have managed to brew a whole lot of them ourselves (Timithy McVie) Most of the folks coming over from the border couldn't afford the 80 dollars for a passport even. Yet the 911 crew seemed to be fairly well taken care of.

At any rate, James-You and I have had a heated but respectful debate where we were able to stay on the issues and not get personal and I respect you for that. As that is highly unusual on NT Blog. With that, I beleive it would be fair to give you the last word, and also- wish both your kids the best in college. I have one boy at NAU, second year.

James Cooney says:

Thanks for the information Anonymous says.

I agree that the problem is far more than Mexicans crossing our border. Supply and demand. The greedy employers (like my previous employer) and corrupt politicians are the first to be concerned with.

Heard on the news last night that the recall process for Gordon will begin later this week. That will be one criminal traitor done, many to go.

Thanks for the reasonable debate. Unfortunately extremely rare on the "forum".

Is it possible?

Steele= James Cooney?

http://www.azcentral.com/members/User/Steelehorseman

Are you back on your meds Steele?

There are other choices in Mesa but Pearce and Gibbons. No one wants to think that a democrat has a chance in West Mesa but people should look at the voter roles, the candidate and also ask the voters who feel disconnected from the current representation to the issues they care about. I hope that papers will soon report fairly and adequately races and challengers.
