Not in the travel brochure: Come to lovely AZ and get chained and choked in the freakin' airport.

The autopsy of Carol Anne Gotbaum, the New York mother of three who died in Phoenix police custody Friday at Sky Harbor Airport, was ruled inconclusive this afternoon by county pathologist Dr. Ann Bucholtz. This, according to acting Director of the Maricopa County Medical Examiner's Office David Boyer, who said the determination of cause and manner of death are pending the results of toxicology tests. Results are due in one to three weeks, he said.

No comment from crackerjack attorney Mike Manning yet. Manning was retained by the Gotbaum family to monitor the progress of the inquiry into Carol Gotbaum's demise. Phoenix cops say she was somehow able to strangle herself with her own handcuffs while in a holding cell. Yesterday, Manning characterized Gotbaum's treatment by Phoenix cops as "astounding." Gotbaum's stepmother-in-law Betsy Gotbaum, Public Advocate for the City of NY, stated Carol Gotbaum was "manhandled" by the PHX PD. The PHX PD claim they did nothing wrong, but they definitely picked the wrong person to screw up on. Her hubby's relations are fixtures on the Big Apple's political scene. Real Knickerbocker power-brokers. This ain't no homeless dood who accidentally, um, "choked himself" in the pen.

I'll update on the story as necessary. Till then, check out these past entries:

Carol Anne Gotbaum's autopsy under way; NYC Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum issues statement saying Carol was "manhandled" by PHX cops.

PHX barrister Mike Manning, retained as attorney in the Carol Anne Gotbaum case, calls PHX PD's actions "at first blush, astounding."

WTF? New Yorker Carol Anne Gotbaum, um, "chokes herself to death" at Sky Harbor? UPDATE: Mike Manning hired as Gotbaum family lawyer!
